  1. If you want a WiFi hotspot device you t will be on something like a phone plan, but just with data, I don't think that having a WiFi hotspot device solely for gaming would be the best idea, because it may get used up really fast, especially if she is downloading new games from steam at times, the data on the hotspot device would get used up fast and it would be hell paying overage fees. Maybe convice her to get a real WiFi/phone plan? Because going with a hotspot device is not the best bet in any sense if the main use would be for gaming. You would probably want to actually get WiFi, or maybe explain why she cannot get WiFi?
  2. If you really want to have a desktop you could argue that it is more worth it in the long run. It would be a lot more worth it for you, as you are able to play more games, with laptops you will be more restricted in your ability to upgrade the machine, with a desktop it would be easier and faster when you need to make an upgrade, and would probably be cheaper. If your desktop broke then it would be cheaper to find and fix, and it would be easier to troubleshoot issues yourself, rather than having to take it to a tech shop and paying stupid amounts of money to have the laptop fixed. If you are both techies, then you would be able to work together and figure out what's wrong with the computer, and you are literate enough to figure out what is wrong, or what needs to be replaced. It will be a better investment than a laptop, because the computer would last longer than the laptop would, and wouldn't take as much abuse as a laptop would, being moved around etc. The desktop is way better for you to invest the money, or your money in a desktop, and not a laptop. You would be able to get a decent laptop for a decent price, but you probably would not be able to play any real intensive games on the laptop if it was just one for browsing that you buy for $600-1000. What would be your budget if you were to get a desktop?
  3. Can't really tell what I'm looking at from this picture, all I see is the case and not much else as to what is inside the case.
  4. I don't need to go crazy high on the graphics card, this is going to be something for gaming, and sometimes school work, I'm not going to need to kick the shizzlenits out of a game by having a better graphics card, I think a 970 would be fine for the games I'd be interested in playing/have to play Thanks though.
  5. You could be taking it to a computer repair shop for instance, it's not uncommon for people to have to move their computers, or take them to other places for something important, I have moved my desktop many times (Mind you it is old and is no where near as heavy as the build shown probably weighs) But not everyone has a notebook so they have to take their desktop, like for a LAN party or something similar like you said. It's going to happen more than once or twice like you said.
  6. 1. Okay. 2. So I shouldn't go for an i7, and instead with the i5 build and get the 970? Yes, I like the case, but if I go with an i5, like suggested above, I could get the 970 in there, I am flexible, in the $1500-$1700 range, so it will be fine. There are cases I can switch to if I go over my budget.

Gaming, A wide range of games, including CS:GO and GTA V and similar, probably when I get the computer I will also be playing DayZ, Rust, and other similar games, like Arma, etc. Coding, nothing more to say, really. Possibly some photoshop/photo management I know some people might ask me if I am interested in Overclocking, and I know with both processors I am able to OC, but I am not sure if I will be getting into Overclocking since this will be my first build, so I will say no for now, but I know that this MOBO here: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97ais apparently a really nice and easy motherboard to use when overclocking, so if I were to be interested in overclocking in the future should I go with this motherboard instead of the one I have listed with the two other parts lists? The board I have in the build as it stands, I chose because I liked the color mix with the black, but I'm not 100% how it will mix with my RAM, but I just prefer the white MOBO because even though the RAM is red and black, it seems there is not much red at all on the RAM, so it will possibly all contrast well, the white and black, and the little bit of red on the RAM and on the power supply text. I also chose the motherboard because it fit my needs, and it fits the case's needs, with the USB (3.0) headers on the case. While both cases do meet the requirements for everything I need, I just want people's thoughts on the whole group. EDIT: Also one last question, I will be adding two extra case fans to help with air flow - Should I get a fan controller to go with the build? As well: I know one of the builds doesn't have the Thermal Paste listed, it was just something I thought of as extra while changing the processor, so in both builds I WILL be buying the Thermal Paste. I hope I gave all the information that is required for people to help me. Thanks.
  8. What's your budget? And please use PCPartpicker and make a build list so it's easier to review the parts
  9. Corsair, but if you want a Canadian retailer, there is the Logitech G710+ with Cherry MX browns, can be between $140-$160 but it is worth it. It is sold at just about any Canadian electronic big box stores like Future Dhop or BestBuy
  10. You need to describe whether the lag is FPS, or ping/connection lag. You can go into your console in cs and type "net_stat 1" with no quotation marks, and monitor your ping and fps. If it is your FPS dropping then that means something is slowing down your computer, and if it your ping going up then that means there is something on your network taking up the band with causing ping spikes. From the way you described it, it sounds like it could be both, but it's hard to tell. Can you try to better explain the beep?
  11. It's OLD. Maybe 4-5 yrs old or slightly less, I will check when I have a chance, but you can easily hear it at start up. It's also a Seagate
  12. It seems I'm having an issue with my HDD, where when it starts up from being powered off for a while (Few hours) that the issue will repeat. When I start up the computer the HDD makes loud noises, like a loud whine, and it seems like the drive is struggling to start up. It will sometimes sounds like the drive is just about to get to full speed but it will then dip again and make a lower whining noise. It will eventually get up to a constant, normal sounding noise for the rest of the use of the computer... Should I be worried about this? Is my drive failing? If I need to replace my drive, would this SSD be worth it? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-internal-hard-drive-sv300s37a120g If not then I would just buy a new HDD, or use one from my old computer.
  13. Interesting, but hot damn, that's going to be a BIG case. Edit: Is it just me, or does he sound some what like Doctor Evil from Austin Powers?
  14. Just given? You got it for free? It's an older Mobo, probably not worth much? You could probably run some less intense games on it.
  15. Still needs more explanation if you want people to listen to a post rather than dis-regarding it because it holds just about no value what so ever.
  16. No need for name calling, just a comment that is not the route to go until all other options are explored You don't want to get directly into reinstalling the GPU drivers if it's not needed. I'm sure OP installed them fine, and uninstalling them and reinstalling should be a last resort rather than suggesting it right away, because there are many options to explore before doing that. Like simply re-installing the game, rather than the drivers.
  17. Wrong place, bud.. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/334107-platform-launch-and-massive-giveaway/
  18. Still not worth it, it may support it, but it's something you'll have to buy, but don't forget your dongles.
  19. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/34813-experiences-with-non-techies/You should post it here, no need for a whole new thread.
  20. Not the thread for that, go here and post it: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/334107-platform-launch-and-massive-giveaway/
  21. This is the feedback and FAQ, not the place to post your videos, I do believe...
  22. You should probably tone it down, there is no need to be that harsh, and I do believe your comment is in violation of the CoC.
  23. So, this Vessel thing... So, I was extremely intrigued when I checked my sub box today to see the biggest giveaway every, and some really sexy large case in the video thumbnail. Now, at first I didn't fully process the fact of having to sign up and blah blah blah, I just thought it would be a simple sign up for the site... but, nothing is ever that easy, is it? Basically to enter this giveaway you have to sign up with Vessel, you have to give them the following: Email (Though that's a given) First Name Last Name Gender Date of Birth Now, this is not something everyone is in to, and I don't exactly want to have to sign up for a whole new service, and give all that information just for a CHANCE at a giveaway. I know that it is important that the Linus Tech Group makes money, as there are employees to pay, bills to pay, mouths to feed, but. There are many followers of the Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel, myself being one and I have been one for a long time now, and then having this whole new issue with YouTube changing the policy and having YouTubers being paid less for their ad revenue, makes it hard on many YouTuber's whom rely solely on YouTube as their means of income, and it is how they pay their bills, or how they pay their crew (If they have one, like LMG, and popular YouTube channels) With that said: Not everyone is willing to have to go and sign up for a new service, just to get videos early, but hosting a giveaway solely based on a new service where the content creators on the site are able to make more money via ad revenue, product placement (Paid time slots within an episode, Yes that's not the proper word for it, but who cares), it is annoying to those vieweres whom: A) Don't want to sign up and give all the 'required' information to this new site. B) Are not allowed (In such a situation as they are younger and have to ask their parents first, lol) Or C) Just cannot care, and are patient enough to wait for videos I think it isn't fair the a certain sect of the LMG fan base that do not want to sign up for a new service, to not be allowed to participate in the giveaway. So here is also a question to Linus, and other LMG members/employees: Is there some way we would be allowed to get atleast a single entry into the giveaway without signing up? I would be happy to share the referral link to friends, and family, because there may be some of them that wish to use the service like Vessel, and I would share it maybe via Google+, because that's the only real social media that I "use" (Not really) Or reddit, or Imgur. I know there will be a lot of people willing to sign up and help support LMG, while others may not want to, and are then excluded from a giveaway because they do not wish to join the new service. I have been a long time supporter of LMG or, the Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel, and then my dis-interest in signing up for this new "great" service voids any and all chances that I have in enterering an amazing giveaway, kind of feels like a rip off. There is no other way for me to enter this giveaway, like maybe, buying a shirt, or changing my amazon link, or supporting the move to the new office, etc. WHY NOT? Is my big question. Yes I may be stubborn in not wanting to sign up for this service, yes I may be silly for not wanting to either, (Silly or stupid, whatever you want it to be) But straight up, I do NOT want to sign up for this new service, just to enter a giveaway, when I have, and would much prefer to support LMG in other ways, for instance by buying a shirt. But that means no entry for me. Also a side note, I tried clicking on the bit ly link in the message I recieved on the forums that is supposed to take me to the giveaway thread, and it gave me an error on the forums, I had to look under the top post that was above the list of posts in the General section, where I was originally making this as a thread but I then realized it was preferred to be posted in the FAQ about the vessel giveaway, so it has been copied from the thread creation textbox and moved here, and will only be posted within this thread as a reply. And Finally I know this will probably be on hell of a waste of time from me, but it's just me, and it's my thought on this. I want to thank you for reading, and I also would like you to have a great day. @nicklmg @LinusTech
