Pointless to overclock Zen imo unless you go for per ccx overclock. All core OC generally hurts single core performance unless you go for impractical cooling solutions like LN2.

ybriK got a reaction from CTR640 in RTX 2080 Ti Low Performance
Never understood the "overkill" argument when the whole point of purchasing flagship GPUs is for the performance down the line without having to do frequent upgrades which is in fact more costly.

The same people told me this when I bought a 780 Ti for 1080p and was laughed at on how "overkill" it was. So dumb to be honest.

An RTX 2080 Ti for 1080p isn't "overkill" it's "futureproofing". I'd rather not have to compromise to high/medium settings in a year or 2 year's time because I bought an RTX 2070 instead and cannot hit 60+ FPS. And yes I will also be buying an RTX 2080 Ti for my 1080p monitor. But I guess the "overkill" argument is from people who have a budget target perspective???

    Rant over.

Have you tried doing a fresh install of windows? Sounds tedious but you can do a full system backup before reformatting so you can revert back to it if it doesn't fix it.

ybriK got a reaction from aezakmi in Is this the best place to discuss tech?
Depends how deep on the "tech" you want to go. Generally this place doesn't dive as deeply and technically as you would think. For example you won't find a lot of people talking about VRM componentry and electrical values instead they would just say something along the lines of "good/power efficient VRMs" "more than enough for overclocking".

The problem with cinebench is that it doesn't have a convenient online database like cpu-z. So I had to google stock 6700K scores for R15. I found out that I was right, I was between a 4770K stock and 4790K stock.

There's reasons why websites like Game Debate, GPU Boss, CPU Boss get popular very fast, because a lot of people don't want to do research and just want to be spoonfed the black and white "answers" instantly. Best way to find out if X is better than Y is to read in-depth reviews from websites like guru3d, techpowerup, hardocp, anandtech, techspot, gamers nexus. It's a lot of homework but it's really helpful when it comes to buying decisions for everyone's particular use case.

They'll most likely abandon the 1151 socket just like every mainstream processor they had in the past tick-tock cycle. Unless you can remove the iGPU on the 7700K and add 2 more cores to compete with Ryzen 5 core for core - thread for thread? 8700K? Not sure if that's doable, but it would be a big change if Intel does manage to do it and bring it down in price against Ryzen.

You should probably ask your professor what applications you're going to be using and what hardware they require to work efficiently. But your safest bet is a desktop with either a modern i5/i7.

Even though this is only 1 game and it's at 4K where the GPU is generally the bottleneck. It still shows the 1800X is a better buy when you plan to stream and game at the same time. If we tested BF1 here which is known to be a very CPU demanding game, we should see the 1800X pull ahead of the 7700K in theory.

ybriK got a reaction from LeftGamer in How strong will be bottleneck?
Quite a bit, just make sure your upgrade is a powerful i5/i7 or Ryzen equivalent. Look at where the i5-2500K is and your CPU should be below that. 980 Ti and Titan X are a bit slower than the 1070 so if the case in those graphs were a 1070 then the min FPS for the i5's and lower tier CPUs would be lower.

GTX 980 is about 30%-40% slower than a GTX 1070. So yea there will be noticeable bottleneck when paired with an i5-2400, stuttering? Possibly. And it's a guarantee you're going to hit 100% consistent CPU Usage in these demanding titles with a GTX 1070.

Nah at 5GHz you should easily surpass a stock clock 6700K/7700K. You should try to run a CPU-Z bench test and see how you do against a 6700K.

ybriK got a reaction from Dabombinable in Which of these CPUs is best for x264 transcoding (OBS)?
You can test it out. But in my theory the Dual Xeons will allow you to have enough headroom that you can use the server to configure things even while streaming. I don't know any bandwidth restrictions that twitch enforces but having more CPU power allows for higher quality streams. eg. 1080p 60 FPS. And less chances of any frames dropped or stream lag/stuttering.

Yes you can get more FPS. You shouldn't experience any issues even if it's x4 speed as a GTX 1080 which is like 300% faster than a 7970 is experiencing bottlenecks at x4 speed.

I mean I could disable hyper threading on my i7-2700K which will essentially make it an i5-2500K and retest. I'm expecting 100% CPU Usage on all cores and GPU Utilization to be hovering 90% or below. Possibly some stuttering.
