jclappers reacted to meringu in Custom server case
The default cooler used to run in a case with similar thermals to a Bitfenix Shinobi, with an added fan in the window. Even though I have speed reducers on silent series fans, this case results in lower temperatures. Also this is the only place to put the PSU and keep such a small form factor. I didn't want to cover the PCI slots, as in the future I want to use this as a Steam box. I mentioned in the OP I wanted to run the new cooler passively, then there would be a lot more space between the PSU and the cooler.

I don't like how close the heatsink is to the PSU, but that's just me being picky.

Here we go!
I finally have the cash together to build a new beast. Mainly for gaming but will play around with video editing and video streaming from time to time when the opportunity arises. Ill be using Windows 8 Pro with my existing SSD (OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS) and storage HDD (WD RE4 2TB). Probably will add more drives later on as i need them. I originally wanted the Avexir red Mpower RAM, but they simply couldnt figure out how to sell it to me?! Their RAM doesnt appear in stores and would have matched my system perfectly, but oh well.. Corsair will do! Ill keep the Blu-ray burner i have in my current system. My aim is to keep things cool, regardless of noise. Summer is coming in 6 months and the PC room wont handle the heat very well..lol. Im thinking 2x 780's will be beastly enough for probably the next 5 years or so. DirectX 12 wont be any time soon, and when shadowplay comes (soon?) ill be on the right track there too. The lack of OpenCL (vs a Titan) isnt anything i really care about. Im going push pull on the cpu cooler rad at the front of the case - as an intake.
Fingers crossed i can reach 4.6Ghz overclocked on the CPU S:
Ill be posting pics at the end of the week when ill have it all put together.

jclappers reacted to Inkz in Hero or Sabertooth
I would say you got a defective board, so you are right to hold your opinion until you have a functioning one. I planned to get a Hero myself, If I ever get enough money.

jclappers reacted to srofai in Hero or Sabertooth
I may just have crappy luck but i just got a Hero board and just started the RMA process with ASUS. For whatever reason the board will not detect ram installed and I get error code 55 on the Qled. I'll hold up complaining about the board till I actually get a working board and get to enjoy it :(
Oh and I tried 3 different types of ram it is not a compatibilty issue.

jclappers reacted to Exotath in CM HAF 932 - White & Black Build [Update 1/6/14]
Update: 1/06/2014 - WC parts have arrived!
Sorry everyone for the long delay on this project. After I got all the parts I became very busy with work and even now I have limited time.
Initially the plan was to do an air cooled build in a Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Windowed case. While it is a nice case I had a few issues with it and have grown apart from it. Also I decided I want to do a real mod and a real build.
So what I did is hauled my old Cooler Master HAF 932 out of the closet and decided to mod it and do a watercooled build.
Teaser:
Updated Hardware Specifications: (Already have these parts)
Intel Core i7 4770K
MSI Z87 MPower
16GB Corsair Vengeance LP Arctic White
eVGA Geforce GTX 780 Ti
Samsung 840 SSD
Western Digital Black 1TB
Hitachi Deskstar 1TB
PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 750W -> Might be swapped out for a SilverStone ST75F-GS
Updated Cooling Specifications: (All have been ordered from FrozenCPU.com - awaiting arrival)
EK Supremacy Nickel Plated CPU Block
EK Supremacy Nickel Plated Universal VGA Block
Alphacool NexXxos UT60 Full Copper Radiator (Triple 120MM)
Phobya 200MM Extreme Radiator
XSPC X20 750 Bayres/Pump Combo with white face plate
EK 3/8 Compression Fittings
Bitfenix Spectre Pro Blue LED 120MM / 200MM / 230MM fans
Primochill tubing and Coolant
XSPC LCD Temp monitor and probe
This will be enough to get the project well off the ground and then I can add stuff in the future.
I will do my best to work on it often and update often...work permitting of course.
Latest update post - > WC Parts have arrived!

Glad to start seeing this case in builds. It is superb. Good work all around.
Just .... I could punch Asus in the face for those heatsinks on their new Z87 line. It is why I didn't get one.

Sexy. By the way you got scammed, you didn't get the sound card, mouse, nor memory. I would highly recommend that you obviously don't purchase from wherever you did. And you know I'm joking right? ;)
EDIT: There's no CPU as well.

Seriously 840 pro you guys got to be kidding me it is just money in the trash, no noticeable load time impovements. it is if you transfer data from it all the time. For gamers and home users the pro is just for bragging rights

If you arent trasfering the OS to another drive, you should just be able to install the new drivers and go at it from there. It should be painless.

jclappers reacted to ShadowRaven in Any suggestions please
I would suggest that you check and see if your psu is haswell compatible but other than that the build looks good build question, did you check the differences between NVidia & Amd video rendering & multiple monitors
-
jclappers reacted to Promettheus in Any suggestions please
Also for the same cost as the Asus 780 there are options from gigabyte and evga that offer quiter and cooler operation which adds performance In gpu boost 2

Stumbled across this, read it all and I'm now dissapointed to reach the end. I have to tell you this probably the single best build I've checked out in my life, I'd have a tough time choosing between this and a Steiger Dynamics PC. Top notch works mate, it's hard to believe school taught you all these skills! Looking forward to the next update.

good choice in my opinion, i dont think the extra cash is worth it if your focusing on gaming :)

jclappers reacted to xToFxREAPER in $800 mobo + cpu, Opinions
nice combo actually, might be what i upgrade to soon actually..debating between 4770k and a sabertooth z87 or a 3930k and an evga x79 dark.. typically its a no brainer but i rarely do any video editing and whatnot so the extra cash for the 2011 platform seems worthless for my uses

Because it fits in your Budget and does what you need. look at my suggestion for better performance in rendering and stuff
