@Justinnlin happy to hear support still hooked you up! Better this way though, now you get a shiny new card and likely get a card with the new CEM 5.1 connector update which further helps prevent issues with loose connections. ๐Ÿ™‚

@DELTAprime sounds very out of the norm for our support, but typically melting issues are from cables not being fully seated, since electrical arcs form which will lead to a constant heat build up until melting occurs. Can you please message me your email address so I can look into your ticket and help make sure you get taken care of? We'll make sure you get new cables for anything that melted.

Correct, go with the dual kit since it has the 16 pin to 3x8 but also has the native 16 pin to 16 pin. That kit gets a freebie, may as well take it. Only difference is that extra cable though. ๐Ÿ™‚

@seon123ย I was under the impression that the GX-1200 was quiet based on reviews. I'm not interested in first party cables though because they don't match the aesthetic I am going for, but am otherwise open to other brands.

@Mr Technician if you are going to use a 4090 you would want our 12VHPWR kit instead actually. That can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJ34C92D?th=1
    ย
The splices though are just a way of cleaning up the pinouts a little bit, since on direct replacement cables, the wires do cross at the PSU end to account for pinouts, and it still keeps the pinouts the same at the end of the day, no harm, just cleans up the aesthetics a bit, since those are out of sight anyways because the PSU shroud/motherboard tray it gets tucked away into. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fully normal, yep! We made it like this to make sure when you're removing it and installing it that you don't damage anything. The fires/melting instances only occurred if the cables weren't fully plugged in, that wasn't exclusive to the 12VHPWR cables though, it just became more popularly known because of those issues since the cards are much more expensive now, but this happened even on 6 pin and 8 pin cables too. If you don't plug the cables in fully, electrical arcing happens, where heat will continue to build up until, well, the melting points occur. Again though, as long as everything is fully plugged in, no gaps in your connections, you won't have this issue. :)

Something else to note, it is recommended to use 16 AWG cables on the Nvidia FE cables, I believe the Strimers are 18 AWG unless something has changed on those. Worth looking at though.

CableMod got a reaction from Gorilla Warfare in 6 pin cable from cablemod to my 8 pin psu
@oi you fully safe to use, yep! We may at times move around a cable to clean up the pinouts, but rest assured, everything we ship is fully safe to use and fully plug and play because we test and retest everything prior to shipping to ensure it. You'll notice sometimes on your stock cables, you have two wires that terminate into the same terminal at the PSU end, with the pro cables, they're too thick to terminate two wires into the same terminal, that's why we splice them (the heatshrink where 2 wires transition to 1). It's still 8 wires in total though as such though as you can see at the GPU end. Just wanted to explain that as well for anyone who may have questions about that. ๐Ÿ™‚

@CriSis_I don't have a side by side comparison unfortunately (I work from home), but I do have photos of two builds I've done for reference where you can see the differences. ModFlex is more of a matte finish and ModMesh is more of a glossy finish if you think in painting terms though if that helps as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the fast reply and solution. Yes you are correct. The io is only 2 slot. I'll give it a try when I have theย dough.ย I managed toย jerry rig it by removing the top heatsink from the xtreme iv, and using screw spacers instead. Not ideal but workable.
