  1. Maybe before replacing it, get any wifi router [maybe from a friend or co-worker] and set it up accordingly. See if it too cuts out. if it does, most likely there is an issue w/ the wifi router your ISP provides; give them a call first & they can reset it on their end; if the issue still continues then yes it should probably be replaced.
  2. Humor me, and go into: control panel\programs\programs & features\ on the left choose 'turn windows features on or off' scroll down to SMB 1.0/cifs file sharing and put a checkmark in 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Client' [see screenshot] let it install & reboot your PC. I bet after the reboot you're able to connect. Try that & post back!
  3. I'd do a master reset on both of them; there should be a place you insert a pen or paperclip to reset. Once reset back to defaults, go & make damn sure you have the latest version of the firmware: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/AiMesh-AX6100-WiFi-System-RT-AX92U-2-Pack/HelpDesk_BIOS/ as of this writing the latest version is: v3.0.0.4.384.7977 See if that resolves your issue, post back.

  5. Welcome to the wonderful world of "random usb connectivity" issues! I have ran into this issue time & time again, where a device will play nice in one usb port & not another - with printers, external hard drives, usb 2.0 & 3.0 ports. Best thing i can tell you is not to worry, just let it be in the port it works in. I have had devices not work in port2 but work in port7, then plug a different device into port2 and it works fine. I know it's weird, don't lose your mind over this, just let it be.
  6. First let me say that i'm not busting your chops, nor am I trying to be rude... Playing ANY online game, especially MMO, MOBA, or FPS games requires a good ping time & low latency. Unless there isn't any other option to game other than wifi, you should always use a hard wired ethernet connection for best ping times & lowest latency. You just cannot beat a wire. Plain & simple. That being said.. I play cs:go as well, you really NEED low latency or the other team will kill you in a heartbeat. So to get you going in the right direction here are a few things i'm going to recommend. 1a. (I thought of this when i got to 3) Give you PC a once over, clean it up, remove unnecessary programs, do a full malware & virus scan. Many times there can be a dumb program running in the backgroud that is chewing up bandwidth & cpu cycles mindlessly. 1b. Get off of wifi - if you can run an ethernet cable from your router to your PC you are playing on, do it! it will make a world of difference in speed & latency when gaming. 2. If you cannot run a long ethernet cable to your PC, consider a powerline ethernet adapter to hard wire yourself into your router. (links below) 3. If you cannot do a powerline ethernet adapter, then consider replacing your current wifi adapter. The wifi adapter you are using might be weak at best - I don't know much about the $9 Edimax adapter you are using, but it has been my experience that you get what you pay for when it comes to wifi equipment. Consider a different wifi adapter for your PC, not a usb one, one that is PCIe that has antennas. Again, this should be your last choice, as a hard wired link is always better. (links below) powerline ethernet adapter: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00AWRUICG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422730014&sr=8-1&keywords=powerline+ethernet+adapter PCIe wifi adapter 1: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Wi-Fi-Express-Adapter-PCE-AC56/dp/B00JNA337K/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1422732555&sr=1-8&keywords=pcie+wireless+network+card PCIe wifi adapter 2: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WDN3800-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B00A0VCHQE/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1422732555&sr=1-12&keywords=pcie+wireless+network+card I hope this helps get you going in the right direction, take care!
  7. I have ran into a similar issue before and it took me a while to figure out what the underlying issue was. Let's try a few things & see if it can resolve the issues you are having. On the router I want you to do the following... 1. RESET IT! restore it to the factory config. 2. Check for any firmware updates for the router. 3. Create a wifi network, name it, use WPA2 encryption, & then try connecting your laptop to it. 4. Create a wifi network, name it differently, use WPA encryption & then try connecting your laptop to it. 5. Create a wifi network, name it differently, use WEP encryption & then try connecting your laptop to it. If that worked, great! If not, let's try a few additional things... 1. Try putting the wifi network on a different channel: 1, 6, 11 or a different frequency and see what happens. 2. Recreate the wifi network again, choose a different name, and DO NOT USE any encryption, see if the laptop can connect. 3. Try different channels without encryption, 1, 6 or 11. see if laptop can connect. After you have tried all those things, if you STILL cannot connect to the wifi router, then we need to get another laptop, try your wifi card in another laptop & see if it can connect. If not, then there may be something wrong with the wifi card. If another laptop CAN connect then it may be an issue with your laptop & it's config, software, etc. that is hindering this wifi card from working. I know this is a lot of things to try, but to be able to pinpoint where the problem is, many steps and issues need to be eliminated before we can determine what the fix is. Try all this, post back if you want, and i'll help you as needed. Hope this helps!!
  8. It sounds like the issue is the range extender. It has been my experience that range extenders are not reliable in the least bit, no matter what brand or model they are. My advice is either to get a powerline ethernet adapter and hard wire in your computer, or get a good quality wireless access point to provide wifi in the area of your home where it is weak. http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00AWRUICG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422730014&sr=8-1&keywords=powerline+ethernet+adapter http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Networks-UniFi-Enterprise-System/dp/B004XXMUCQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422730087&sr=8-2&keywords=access+point Hope this helps!
  9. I think this is a good price for an AC router. Although I don't have a ton of experience with Belkin products, after reading the specs & reviews from a few other sites, I think this would make a good home router. Hope this helps!!
  10. Another awesome wifi AC router is the Asus RT-AC68U, and it's a bit cheaper than the Linksys WRT1900AC. http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC68U-Wireless-AC1900-Dual-Band-Gigabit-Router/dp/B00FB45SI4
  11. ok... wireless AC, under $60, with 4+ star reviews, on amazon there comes up two http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Wireless-AC750-Router-DIR-803/dp/B00HGLOTSK/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1419322234&sr=1-3&keywords=wireless+router http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-Certified-Refurbished-EA6200-RM/dp/B00LV7O9FI/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1419322234&sr=1-2&keywords=wireless+router the Linksys AC900 I setup recently for a customer who had purchased at a local retail store. Setup was easy and speed & throughput were surprisingly quick. This was on a not-so-busy network with 2 laptops, 1 smartphone, 1 tablet, and a hard wired desktop. Wifi speeds & range were good, but there was weak signal in basement about 50' from router - which was to be expected. Everything on the same level within 35' of router was good to go. Your results can vary depending on the size & structure of the house you reside in. Concrete, steel, lighting, dense wood, old drywall, etc. can all play factors in getting a wifi signal to your device. As long as you realize that this is an entry level AC router & don't expect extraordinary results, then you'll be fine. Hope this helps!
  12. Sorry about that... I have zero experience with either device, but after doing a little research both devices do the same thing, both are reviewed pretty much the same. So really it comes down to cost... I'm not familiar with the british pound, but it appears on amazon the TP-Link TL-WA850RE is cheaper.
  13. I have zero experience with Vizio wifi routers & network equipment. Their TVs are nice. The reviews of this router are not bad, others that have reviewed have said it was a solid router. It's $20 on newegg & $30 on amazon. I cannot make your decision for you, but this is an entry level router, as long as you are NOT expecting it to cover a HUGE amount of square footage and have super long range, as long as you realize it's an entry level router - then go ahead with the purchase. Hope this helps!
  14. I agree with anders_b either of those routers would do the trick. But, to add to what he said... IF your budget is NOT able to be increased, then check out all the used wifi routers on ebay, many under $20! http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=wireless+router&_frs=1 Merry Christmas, hope this helps!!
  15. Need more info... What version of windows now? what was previous version? does wifi work? Can you use original driver disks to install drivers? is old hard drive available to use? if so, you can use something like: http://sourceforge.net/projects/drvback/ (driver backup) to a usb thumb drive, hook back up new drive, then install driverbackup & restore drivers from thumb drive. That particular PC has many variants on hp's website, be sure to enter the exact serial to get the correct drivers installed. Post back, Hope this helps!!
