  1. Cool, I never thought someone would post a picture of my craigslist add on the tech tips forum lol, mine is the Z800 and the price is actually $550
  2. yeah, wasnt really going through my head at the start lol
  3. Great, I kinda want to get a stupid cpu TBH. i was originally thinking about getting an E5 2687w V2 8 core and pushing it to 4.3GHz, its also Ive Bridge-E but it would slap a 1800x around all day
  4. Yeah but the other big factor is that i have an asus Rampage iv Black edition that i dont really want to part with. im just wondering if a 4960x would bottleneck my gtx 1080.
  5. I have an aging X79 based system paired with a GTX 1080, my CPU is a 3.5GHz Xeon (E5 2690) that I know holds the card back but I am wondering if it is worth upgrading to Ivy Bridge-E and getting something like a i7 4960x or should I just go to x99 or x299?
  6. I am running a single gtx 670 in my main rig and have been thinking about getting either a gtx 1070 or giving amd a chance to impress me.
  7. yeah, i kinda already broke that concept when i bought my rampage iv black for $440 new lol, it was originally just planed to be a dell precision t7600 rebuild but after i found out the cost of rebuilding it the custom route was only $100 more so i jumped. believe me, i have no justifiable reason for building it other then i like xeons and i wanted a big summer project with bragging rights
  8. thats cool and yeah, the board was expensive but if you think about it then its not that bad of a deal. it supports overclocking, made to run 24/7 without any problems, has 7 full 16x pci-e 3.0 slots, and supports alot of server grade hardware on top of up to 4 way crossfire/Sli and to sweeten it up even more it was brand new from the factory with a 3 year asus full coverage warranty.
  9. true lol, i got a Phanteks Enthoo Pro for mine. After i spent $100 on Noctuas and $500 on the board there is no way in hell i would put it in a rack where it wont be seen
  10. Nice board, I just got my Asus Z9PE-D8 WS in new and almost have my second rig together as well, also found out that the asus ws dual socket boards are just like the EVGA SRX and can overclock too.
  11. I have an E5 2690 in my main rig with a rampage iv black edition board and it kills everything, but something you should know is that just because the newer xeons dont overclock well they still do overclock. the e5 2670 is a great chip and is capable of 3Ghz on all cores without doing anything but having turbo mode enabled but if you get an X79 motherboard that supports the cpu and has an unlocked bus speed then you can play around with bus speed and get more out of the cpu. almost all E5's can do 104Mhz and some can go all the way to 106Mhz and even if it doesnt sound like much a bus speed of 105Mhz is a 5% improvement over the chip with just turbo mode enabled, my e5 2690 runs at 2.9 ghz and 3.3 ghz max turbo but i was able to get it to 105Mhz on the bus and my xeon runs at 3.47Ghz on all cores and will turbo higher on lighter threaded workloads up to 4Ghz. if you wanna see my setup: http://valid.x86.fr/7wkdz1
  12. I just bought the cpu so I am just wondering if anyone else has tried it or knows if it will work.
