the gtx 1060 or the rx 470 seem like the obvious choice here. You could get a few extra dollars by picking a smaller psu, something like 650w will do just fine.

It will be worse by a good margin. You are looking at a much much much lower clock and that will hurt you. My chip maybe faster than that thing in single core. Also multitasking is easily done by pretty much every chip made in the last 6 years.
Theres a guy in here rn selling a 8 core and a mobo for 350.

yeah, but as i said before, the 960gb ones have a greater consistancy between drives. so most of them run exactly like the say in all tests.

Although my normal response would be to upgrade the GPU, any GPU you buy will be heavily bottlenecked. It would depend of your budget really. But I cant find any good budget GPU that would be significantly better than the R9 270, so I am going to say CPU.

i think the i5 is a great idea. save up your money after that to get a rx 480 4gb or 8gb model.

you should be fine after that! (although if you can get skylake, i obviously recommend that more than haswell refresh, but they perform around the same)

OH, and get rid of the psu soon, unless it is a toughpower fully modular version, TT isnt known for having good psu's

    4 years?

    BTW I know it's not 1080p I actually own a 2560x1080 monitor

In that case though you may want to consider getting a 29 inch instead of a 25 inch. 25 inches is awfully small for an ultrawide...

IMO though instead of just getting that GPU and hoping for it to last 4 years you're a lot better off getting something like a 1060 and then look at upgrading it ever 2-3 years. A 1060 should be able to play most games at high or ultra at 2560x1080 for at least the next two years. A 6600k is also a good option to go for instead. In the end you'll probably spend the same amount if not less money over the course of 4 years and you'll be able to max out the games on your monitor for all four years whereas if you keep a 1070 for 4 years in 3-4 years you will probably be turning down settings.

Welcome to the PC master race!

A good starting point for high end GPU would be either GTX 1060 (Nvidia) or RX 480 (AMD).  Both around $250 USD roughly.

Next on your list should be a solid state drive (ssd), if you don't already have one.

in 1080p there will be a decent bottleneck of around 25% but you will definitly still get over 60 fps, so its nothing to really worry about... if you are looking into playing more cpu intensive games, go for an i5 6500 or 6400 and get maybe a gtx 950/ rx 460 instead, it will round the build out pretty well

becuase the 960 is not worth the money, the 480 4gb is out for the same price and performs about 40-50% better. the 960 is old news, go for a 1060 or 480 instead

still is since supply and demand basic capitalism. they still have a high resale value in the used market since the demand for them is high. just like how X58 boards are $200+ used. 2nd gen cpus are still good for gaming, since intel decided to sit on ass after sandy bridge bringing only 10 to 15% increase in performance over the generations. just like AMD Phenom II X6s they are still expensive and overpriced used even though they are old as hell but since there is a high demand for them, the resale value gets jacked up.

stare's build does look great, but you *can* make a quad core skylake build with most of the same things as that one for the same price.

also i would recommend not getting that crappy corsair psu and instead getting EVGA's 600B for $45, much better quality, just doesnt have full black cables.

if i were you i would seriously rethink going with an amd processor right now, my brother had an 860k, no overclocking headroom and a core actually failed. not to mention under a solid air cooler (cryorig h7) it was even reaching up to 90C. skylake is a better option for you and the build i showed was $25 more but its performance was around 1.5x better especially graphically

this is what i recommend to start with, the case isnt exactly what you wanted, but spending the extra bit more on the motherboard for upgradibility is a must, also it is a part you will probably not need to replace if you are looking to upgrade to an i5 in the future
