Here is what I would love to see. A comparison of this (Intel) setup and a comparably (to the optane) priced m.2 ssd (such as  Silicon Power 120g)  on a ryzen using stormi. This may be important to someone who is looking to build a new system and may make the difference in what they buy (while also showing some investigative journalism instead of paid infotainment).

See it is so popular because it has the linux kernal in or on it however you would say it. You slap DD WRT on it and now I have a router with Qos, and soooo many other options for $20. It also is rock solid in stability. It may not be a 8 channel 90ghz beast but my god has and still does serve me well. Oh and you can put linux on it and use it as a PC

I think the idea here can be generalized a bit: it doesn't matter who is paying/donating money, or to who, or through what means (credit card, paypal, etc.); the point stands that if you make a payment with the intention of refunding it form the very start you should no longer be eligible for the refund, plain and simple.

    pcie over gmi link
I am sure that AMD will leave enough extra bus connections that the partner board manufacturers will still be able to differentiate their products.
what about when Intel put the north bridge or the voltage regulator (which they are removing with the skylake release) onto their cpu ? how many cpu's failed due to that? this condensing of system chipsets has been happening for years.

Again, already happening in the market. Intel with different chipsets and changing the socket every(or every other) update to the lineup. Amd will just be following the market leader in this already accepted practice.

I'd be interested to hear from someone who does own Ashes whether that is true or AMD was actually running on lower settings. I don't feel like they did themselves any favours by demonstrating crossfire as opposed to a single 480 though.

Seems like HardOCP is still butthurt after AMD denied them R9 Nano review samples and didn't invite them to the Macau event.

Take what is said in this article with this amount of salt:

StainlessSR reacted to Fetzie in [H]ardOCP Editor Claims Internal Problems for AMD - Polaris Underwhelming and RTG Seeking to Leave AMD For Intel
I think it is mostly conjecture.

    I mean, take this sentence:
So he claims that Polaris runs significantly hotter than the 1080, which thermal and power throttles like crazy. Not to mention that he glosses over the fact that Polaris 10 is a competitor for the GTX 1050(ti)/1060 and Polaris 11 will likely release as competition for the 1060(ti), with a couple of balls to the wall SKUs by AIBs that might come close to the 1070. So of course it will be slower than a 1080.

But exactly where he is getting the thermal performance from is a mystery to me, unless he is party to NDA information which he is reporting on (he alludes to this in the forum thread attached to the article), in which case he is probably hoping that AMD sue him so that he can write another hatchet job on AMD's future ("AMD sues review website over bad reviews" would likely be the title).

Not to mention that his "sources" are mostly people that have left AMD (either of their own volition or fired), in which case they are hardly likely to talk about how awesome their ex-employer was.

Anyway, I'm not sure this is "news". It is an editorial by a writer who is anything but unbiased, and - in my opinion - belongs more in "General Discussion".

StainlessSR got a reaction from Caspload in Harddrive issue with booting
If the drive will not initialize it is a bad drive. you can keep trying to reinitialize it but as you stated that is a hit or miss thing. It sounds like it is an error with the board part of the hardware not the platters/motor so (warning warranty voiding ahead) if you had a second drive that was identical you could try swapping the io boards to see if the drive would initialize.

As the "leaked" performance on 3d mark put it up at r9 fury performance, I am sure that is close to where it falls when playing doom. I am looking forward to the new cards if they will have such great performance at that price point(sub $300). It is time to upgrade from my old gtx 650ti boost.

You can have a bad ram stick with no memtest errors. Sounds like that may be the culprit. Try running the system with just one stick, if it has the error try the other stick. Also, try  it in each slot.
stick a in slot 1 = crash, stick a in slot 2 = crash, stick b in slot 1 = no crash stick b in slot 2 = no crash ==bad stick of ram
    stick a in slot 1 = crash, stick a in slot 2 = no crash, stick b in slot 1 = crash stick b in slot 2 = no crash ==bad slot

edit: also, if you bought two one stick sets they may not work together, that is why they are sold in sets(8x2=16gb or 4x4=16gb) so the manufacturer is assured they play well together

StainlessSR reacted to quan289 in Haswell Ready?
They are not "Haswell Ready" in accordance to the testing methodology that Intel set. That methodology has the 12V rail rail loaded to 0.15A with a max load on the 3.3V / 5V rail.  This would be putting the PSU in a crossload scenario, where the voltages of group-regulated design PSUs like the two Seasonics you had listed, typically, go out of ATX specs. If it violate specs, it's not "Haswell Ready".

However, the likelihood that you would put the PSU in such a scenario on a modern day setup is rather slim; and even if it does cause you problems, you can simply disable it in the BIOS as you had stated.

If you are looking to buy a PSU, providing a budget and a link to the store you can buy from would be helpful in providing an alternative.

StainlessSR got a reaction from Wavorly in PC Stuttering (Lagging) while downloading
Does this occur if you close Utorrent? If you are hosting a lot of files every time a file is accessed, Bitdefender scans it, so this may be the cause of your stuttering and why when you restart it goes away (all the connections from peers downloading from you goes away). As there is no real obvious culprit (ie: chrome using 75% cpu) this would be my best guess. If even with uTorrent closed it persists in happening then it may be a driver issue or irq conflict.
