ryjanpugz got a reaction from Humbug in UPDATE: my 'hotrod' R9 280x
That's great news! My 280x should do well with upcoming DX12 games then! I haven't installed any games yet, but I will soon. This build is just for "light" gaming. I'll probably be playing CS GO, League of Legends, Battlefield 4, and some MMORPGs on it.

This is my first build using a top mounted PSU as well. The case is a Fractal Design Core 1000.It's brand new, but I got it off a classifieds site for $35CAD ($26USD) and it came with a 620W Antec 80plus bronze PSU (brand new as well)  so I couldn't resist.

ryjanpugz got a reaction from Johnny K. in UPDATE: my 'hotrod' R9 280x
    Hey guys!

So a while back i posted a thread about a 'hotrod' (or according to some: 'ghetto') R9 280x that I got off a friend.

    http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/439660-hotrod-r9-280x-for-91-usd/

I just finished a build with it and I just wanted to share some of the pics here. It's just a simple HTPC/LAN party build. I bought all the parts used/second-hand except for the CPU and the 92mm rear fan on the case.

For those that haven't read the previous post, the blue light on the video card is actually and LCD screen hooked up to a thermal sensor on the GPU.

    Specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition
    RAM: 8GB Ripjaws DDR3 1600Mhz
    GPU: 'Hotrod' Sapphire R9 280x
Storage: 2TB Sapphire Barracuda 7200 rpm
PSU: ULTRA HS 750W Modular PSU 80 plus Bronze
    MOBO: MSI H81M-P33
    CASE: Fractal Design Core 1000

Here are some pics of the build:

ryjanpugz got a reaction from Biggerboot in 'hotrod' R9 280x for $91 USD!
I helped my friend find a wicked deal on a brand new R9 390x, so he gave me first dibs on his old gpu. His old gpu is a 'hotrod' R9 280x. It has 92mm Noctua fans and a custom LCD display that shows the GPU temp(you can cut a hole on one of your optical drive bays and install it). All of this modded goodness is held together by electrical tape! He sold it to me for only $91 usd lol! I will be using this on an HTPC/console killer mini ITX rig that I am building soon.

notes: when my friend first bought the card, the fans in the cooler were broken, but it was cheap so he didn't care. He knew he could make an improvised solution.

ryjanpugz got a reaction from Nup in help: is my graphics card running too hot?
Alright thanks guys! I did have a reference r9 290 before and that got really hot. I suspect that I probably put way too much thermal paste when I mounted the bracket lol.

I'm not even overclocking it that much. My core speed is only 1007MHz and memory is only 1300MHz

ryjanpugz got a reaction from Shaqo_Wyn in 144Hz monitor for League of Legends= SO WORTH.
I decided to make this thread because while there are a lot of posts that say  buying a 144Hz monitor is good for FPS games, I didn't really find a lot of posts about buying one for MOBA games. I hope this post will help MOBA players that are on the fence about buying a 144Hz monitor make their decision.

So I recently took the plunge and bought a 144Hz monitor.I bought the BenQ XL2411Z. I was very apprehensive at first because I never really played FPS games(Except Battlefield 4.I mostly play League of Legends and mmorpgs) but after weeks of thinking about whether to buy one or not, (it was literally driving me crazy) I decided to just get the damn thing.

HOLY SHIT.  I main support Blitzcrank and the 144Hz REALLY REALLY helped me land my pulls. I was amazed at how much easier it was to hit my skill-shots. It almost felt like I wasn't even trying. On top of that, I was playing with some friends that were in Diamond and Plat (I'm in Silver), and I was outclassing supports that were ranked much higher than me. Now, I'm not saying that getting one will boost your game by 999999999999999999%, but IT DOES HELP quite a bit, especially if you often use champs that use skillshots.

In conclusion, If you're a MOBA player that has money to spend on a 144Hz monitor, and if your pc can actually run the game at a constant 100+ fps, I could definitely say that getting a 144Hz monitor is WORTH IT.

    Note:

BIG thanks to all the people on this forum that helped me decide whether to get a 144Hz monitor. Definitely one of the best upgrades I've ever gotten.

thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated!

Although, what if all my PC-E slots are already full? so I can't really do crossfire? would the 7990 be viable then? (I have a soundcard and a USB 3.0 card hooked up)
