  1. That's great news! My 280x should do well with upcoming DX12 games then! I haven't installed any games yet, but I will soon. This build is just for "light" gaming. I'll probably be playing CS GO, League of Legends, Battlefield 4, and some MMORPGs on it. This is my first build using a top mounted PSU as well. The case is a Fractal Design Core 1000.It's brand new, but I got it off a classifieds site for $35CAD ($26USD) and it came with a 620W Antec 80plus bronze PSU (brand new as well) so I couldn't resist.
  2. Hey guys! So a while back i posted a thread about a 'hotrod' (or according to some: 'ghetto') R9 280x that I got off a friend. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/439660-hotrod-r9-280x-for-91-usd/ I just finished a build with it and I just wanted to share some of the pics here. It's just a simple HTPC/LAN party build. I bought all the parts used/second-hand except for the CPU and the 92mm rear fan on the case. For those that haven't read the previous post, the blue light on the video card is actually and LCD screen hooked up to a thermal sensor on the GPU. Specs: CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 Anniversary Edition RAM: 8GB Ripjaws DDR3 1600Mhz GPU: 'Hotrod' Sapphire R9 280x Storage: 2TB Sapphire Barracuda 7200 rpm PSU: ULTRA HS 750W Modular PSU 80 plus Bronze MOBO: MSI H81M-P33 CASE: Fractal Design Core 1000 Here are some pics of the build: http://imgur.com/a/lIgLA <--- Full size pics
  3. try it now. sorry about that
  4. I haven't hooked it up but I'm assuming noctua fans would perform a little bit better. I forgot to include this in the description, but he actually installed the noctua fans because when he bought the card used, the fans in the stock cooler were broken. He got the card for cheap(because the cooler fans was broken), then installed the 2 noctua fans and the LCD.

  7. yeah it's definitely worth looking into if you are comfortable doing it. Good luck!
  8. A hotrod doesn't need to look clean/polished. It only needs to be functional
  9. yep! my friend used to be a technician so he bought some thermal sensors and LCDs online and started hooking them up to his components
  10. that's awesome! those are sweet cards!
  11. where can I submit my entry?
  12. I helped my friend find a wicked deal on a brand new R9 390x, so he gave me first dibs on his old gpu. His old gpu is a 'hotrod' R9 280x. It has 92mm Noctua fans and a custom LCD display that shows the GPU temp(you can cut a hole on one of your optical drive bays and install it). All of this modded goodness is held together by electrical tape! He sold it to me for only $91 usd lol! I will be using this on an HTPC/console killer mini ITX rig that I am building soon. notes: when my friend first bought the card, the fans in the cooler were broken, but it was cheap so he didn't care. He knew he could make an improvised solution. here are some of the pics :

  17. Hey guys, So I've recently tried going to a crossfire setup with 2 R9 290 cards. After setting up both cards, the computer does post and run, but I can't see the crossfire option on Catalyst Control Center. Please help! Here are my specs: CPU: Intel i7 2600K OCed to 4.3ghz GPU1: MSI R9 290 4g Gaming (watercooled with a corsair H50+ nzxt kraken g10) GPU 2: Gigabyte R9 290 4g Windforce OC MOBO: Asus P8P67 PRO RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengance DDR3 1600Mhz PSU: Rosewill Capstone G1000 1000W 80plus Gold
  18. Hey guys, I was looking for an amplifier online and saw this one on massdrop: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-o2-amplifier?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Uncategorized%20IA%20Product%20Announcement%202015-08-01&utm_source=Sailthru&referer=NVETVG&utm_term=Community%20-%20Uncategorized%20-%20MAU%20%28Inactive%29&mode=guest_open The story behind it really intrigued me and it does have some great reviews. i currently have a Creative Labs Soundblaster Z dedicated sound card on my computer. Will this go well with it? Anyone here have one? If so, please share your experience with it!
  19. Thanks Vizzion! This really helped! turns out his cpu block's connector wasn't attached to the motherboard correctly.
  20. Hey guys, so my cousin's PC keeps beeping AFTER startup. This aren't those beeps that you get when you can't POST. The computer boots up fine and the beeping only starts a few seconds after the desktop has been loaded up. At first we thought that it was the sound card or sound drivers that was broken, but after switching off the onboard sound on the BIOS, we 'still' get the beep- we can't hear it, but we can see the bars going up and down on the volume control. PLEASE HELP! I recorded a video of the beeping. Here it is:
  21. Hello guys! I have an older laptop that I was thinking of upgrading the parts on so that I can play League of Legends and CS GO at a decent frame rate (low to medium).I was wondering if anyone that has upgraded their laptop's APU/CPU could give me some advice. I don't really use it anymore since I have a gaming desktop but it would be nice to have a laptop that can run league at 60fps (or close, at lowest settings even) for when I go to a friend's place or to a impromptu LoL LAN party. Now before anyone start's calling me a 'noob' or an 'idiot', I honestly don't expect any upgrades (if possible) to make my little laptop into a super gaming rig lol. Again, I just want something that can hopefully run League of Legends at 60fps(or close) even on lowest settings. Right now, my laptop can't even do that. ( I often get drops as low as 4 fps at lowest settings) Also, a little experimenting can be a fun and good learning experience. The laptop's (HP Envy 6-1040ca) specs are: AMD A6-4455m 2.1Ghz (up to 2.6Ghz with Turbo Core) 8GB of RAM 240GB SSD (replaced the laptop's original mechanical drive) I figured that aside from the APU, the laptop's specs seem pretty decent so I focused on looking for a replacement for the APU. I'm thinking of replacing the A6-4455M with the A10-4600M or A10-5750M because these are the best chips in that APU lineup. Some of my questions are: Is this possible? Will the A10-4600M or A10-5750M be compatible with my motherboard? Any advice would be much appreciated!
