Building Custom computers and overclocking them. Repairing computers since 7yo. Do tech support for ATT Uverse (support for field techs on installs and repairs)
  1. had exact same issue here was my fix in regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management ClearPageFile at Shutdown set to 0 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l WaitToKillServiceTimeout set to 1000
  2. did startup repairs no good there, used hirems boot cd 15.2, and few other boot cd UBCD. Bios in the mini limited, did a restore to default for bios but ya same still.. so sounding like bad hdd or just a fault with the hp mini, well going do another hdd test or two install win xp see how that acts. but agree colonel very odd only does it on cold boots
  3. "So i got a new hard drive and reinstall windows 8 it works fine but it still wont boot the first" so when you restart again it boots proper?? if so could just be a mobo fault a buddy has a few dfi boards and they do exact same wont boot first time round but 2nd boot flawless and no issues in windows. EDIT: research mobo forums and such see if that is a common issue but sounds be a mobo deal from what your saying. possibly setting in bios not 100% without you posting pc specs for us to look them up a little
  4. Repairing a HP mini laptop model HP Mini 110-1115CA. orignal HDD shot replaced HDD with a WD Blue 500GB model. Install windows and get Bootmgr corrupt or missing, restart laptop boots fine. This only happens on cold boots and then just a restart fixes it 99% time. If running and restart boots perfect. Reinstall windows again win7 ultimate same deal. went down to windows 7 started and still same. Updated Bios all drivers even tho bios driver only one would effect it since rest dont load till windows boots. No Sucess. HD tune pro has some drops in read tests so possible got a bad drive. Im thinking may be possible the Sata connector on laptop itself but not 100% sure i would think if its that would be faulty more often. I used a virtual image of a dvd to install with a zaleman ve-300 an external drive that has a virtual drive so a iso looks like dvd.. very handy tool. But tried multiple ISO even one i burnt from a legit disk i own, rest were iso downloads ( which is not illegal you pay for the key not the iso itself fyi) Any ideas you guys have, my next personal step would be install win xp then rma drive
  5. this is a huge windows vista and 7 issue not sure if carried over to 8, but these some fixes i found in past 1. Factory Reset Modem Router all network devices pretty much.. ( if wired connection keep cable disconnected till fully booted good idea restart pc to , wireless keep card off til same modem router fully booter) 2. Change SSID new network name computer should give you the home, work, public pop up network selection screen. dosnt always work not that easy this best for wifi and this issue 3. manually set ip address and dns i use googles dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 4. reinstall windows i hate playing in regedit can be risky and i never found a fix in their yet, so i wouldnt bother, also tried some services fixes with no luck, same with reinstalling protocol in adapter properties
  6. OK i do IT work for communication company and do PC repairs on side for fun. Yes its a frustrating hobby at times. But my best advise start slow with the build, you mentioned your using all 4 dimms, remove to refer to manual to see what it says best 2 slots are. I would even disconnect all hard drives, optical drives usb headers pretty much have CPU, GPU, and a 2 sticks of ram (could even go 1 but no need) then clear cmos and see if get boot from their. Some boards require settings be tweaked for all 4 slots be used. usb keyboard or ps/2 makes no difference all newer boards i have seen have been fine with either usb usually better for its plug and play purposes (thats my personal opinion there)
  7. ive seen few programs that can migrate all data from orignal drive to new then just install new drive. when i do computer repairs tho i use a zaleman ve-300 its an external HDD case that has a virtual drive built into it so i have a collection of .ISO files i made that i can boot from computer see's it as a CD/DVD.. this isnt exact program i seen in past but same concept http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid+state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows if i find or remember program will edit post..
  8. at this point take 1 fan out at time till its gone, and slowly re install then see when comes back. or try placing desktop on a mat or something
  9. only changes cooler and more ram still same stableness .. and cooler somehow cooles just as good as old one did maybe 4 more degree on it
  10. i fixed it single os machine have backtrack 5 on disk coulda used but played in registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management ClearPageFile at Shutdown set to 0 and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l WaitToKillServiceTimeout set to 1000 reboot and does a full reboot no hanging for ever on shutting down screen, i hate playing in regedit tho.. can be risky
  11. Crew- unlikely to be a service after ts so far, safe mode only has bare minimal services run for windows to boot. I am starting to think the shutdown file or code inside it got corrupt and thats holding up at this point. Safemode eliminated program as possible cause and service running. No new hardware so nothing there, uninstalled all newest programs and cleared their temp files manually in appdata folders..
  12. drivers for legacy cards thats what showed up when googled that card here x32 and x64 http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx
  13. what card is it gpuz screenshot may be easiest way get me all info i wanna look see if can find it.
  14. i would look on motherboards site see how far behind yours is and in the fix notes see if your issue in list if yes download for sure. if not may not be needed but usefull. be sure read how flash bios can brick motherboard if you mess it up or choose wrong file
  15. sounds like the heatsink and chip are not making proper full contact a bracket may have warped or board itself. If your good can bake laptop motherboard that helps at times gets hot enough allow melt guess would say a bit back in place. dosnt actually melt just get soft and malleable
