Not 100% sure I follow... but...

Using a clamp style mount then, throwing away the clamp portion, and just run 2-3 bolts through the rear horizontal support frame bar(front to back for example). Might secure the monitor mount sufficiently. I'd put a rubber pad between the top of the mount and the glass surface, but this would move all the weight support to the bolts that are running parallel to the plane of the glass through the support frame bar.

This may have been what you are suggesting, but not sure.

    Edit:
On second thought though... if the frame is aluminum, it may be too weak to support the mount this way... depends on how thick the desk frame is, how many bolts you can fit in the mount, and how heavy your monitor setup is... if the desk is steal though, this should work great.

I concur about the “no simple solutions” here.

The “thin clamp between the metal and glass” thing founds like a bad idea because
    A there isn’t enough room
B those clear beads holding the glass off the metal are soft shock mounts.  They’re going to need to compress.  If you put a clamp in there the chances the glass will just break across the clamp are not low.

the problem with “clamp it to a leg” is one leg is full of power ports so you’d have to clamp it to the other leg, and either way the mount will be on the far corner of the desk which sucks and it would be off set weight wise so you’d have tippyness issues.

fabrication or on-desk seem to be the only ways out. You can’t even drill a hole in the glass because tempered glass can not be cut.

a standard desk stand is likely the best option.  Everything else is last resort.

In the last resort situation My personal move would probably be to drill a hole in the desk and stand front to back where I wanted the mount to be and bolt to that.  You’d need multiple bolts to keep it from just tipping over sideways.  Sounds like a mess.  Welding is probably even worse.

After some semi-extensive googling, it sort of looks like your stuck with a standard "legged" VESA stand sitting on top of the desk... the alternative would require some fabrication.

If you bought a standard clamp stile stand, then flipped the clamp backwards and fabricated a custom braket for the clamping mechanism to press against, then the arm would clear the back or side of the desk and you could attach the clamp to one of your desk legs.

Ok.  So get long bolts and also drill through and mount a block of something to support the L bracket.  Effectively extend the entire table backwards the width and length of the space under the bracket.  Might need some shims between the block and the bottom of the Lbracket to make sure it was tight tight.

errr...  well yes and no, graphics switching i dont think works on desktop...   but for video editing you definitely want a dedicated GPU ..both AMD and NV are fairly identical in this category at how fast they handle the rendering process..  but onboard iGPu will be miles behind a dedicated card.

can you plug into both?  yes, but you need to enable it on your specific motherboard.. each board has its own name for it and method.

is it more efficient? nah, but  you be more happier with like an RX 560 or GTX 1050Ti (if you can find them for under $100) since those can both sip power and boost hard in gaming and work loads.. im not sure how a 1050Ti or a RX 560 compares to a R9-285, but going out on a limb here and going to say equal or better in gaming..

    EDIT: misunderstood the question..sorry!

for simple cable cutting stuff, the iGPU on the i7-4790K is totally fine for 1080 content, higher may want to consider better graphics...  however multiple streams or maybe do some background encoding type stuff, may want to consider a dedicated GPU that's modern and low power like GTX 1050/RX560. i dont know the software you got and what all it doesn how it does it..

Can you sell the mobo + CPU + RAM as a kit?  Or not?

If you can unload the mobo + CPU + RAM as one item, for a reasonable price, then by all means, go for new stuff.  But if not, then just doing the Haswell (or even 5th gen Broadwell i7) can be a reasonable option.

Check on ebay for a 4790k, they look quite cheap. I sold a 4790 to a friend for a loooot cheaper than you'd find on ebay so maybe check around friends and/or check around in classifieds on the forums here. Maybe someone's selling theirs.

Either way upgrade rather than i5

go for the 4790k  have better stock speed 4ghz to  4.4ghz  with turbo boost vs 3.6ghz at the locked one
the i5 you will need to change ram mobo cpu  around the same money   but you will have only four cores

    I7-4790K.

Even without an overclock, 4.4 GHz Turbo is great. Given the Overclocking headroom available, you're not missing much with a locked board anyhow.

Some boards (even locked ones) will also allow use of full Turbo frequencies across all cores. It's worth looking for that in your BIOS. Also, decent heatsink. Stock 4790K is a hot chip, Intel wrung it's neck good to get above 4 GHz.

Defragment the hdds, also run tests on the hdds to make sure they aren't failing.

I would highly recommend playing with the mouse some more.  The fwd/back keys are very poorly placed (they are stacked diagonally on top of one another), and also placed back towards your wrist.  This causes two issues: (1) hitting the desired key is more difficult because they are stacked on top of each other, and (2) you have to curl your thumb much further back to reach the keys.

I'm also having issues with the side scroll.  It's only about 60% responsive.

I agree on the front-facing speakers.  They more or less admitted to it.  They are also claiming 3-sided screen, which I think is a cute way of saying that we'll have a curved edge traveling laterally to two sides of the phone, thus making it "3-sided."

I don't think "reflectionless" means matte finish.  They probably are using the new Corning 99% reflection reducer.

Metal - agreed.  Obviously it'll have that in light of the Alpha and their direct statement that it will be metal.

Subtlety will be key.  One thing I don't like about my LEDs (see below) is that you can see each individual light source, rather than a solid beam of light.
