Neftex got a reaction from ringo in Recommend me browser addons
i might be wrong but i think all these antivirus plugins do is check the url youre visiting against some blacklist
(and most likely sending the url to their server, so they pretty much know your browsing history)

Neftex reacted to Master Disaster in Ampere computing will ship their 32 core 3.3Ghz ARM Server CPU this week
This was talked about at the start of the year and now it's here. Ex Intel Boss Renée James and her company Ampere Computing will aim their new chip at the top 8 web companies as cheaper (both to buy and run) server chips for running things like web servers as well large scale network appliances and other targeted servers.
The specs are fairly impressive for what's essentially a low power chip,
They're already teasing a 7nm second generation model with dual socket support.
You will be able to order servers from Lenovo by the end of this week with Ampere having their own servers ready sometime soon.
It seems as though Intels current struggles with die shrinkage makes this a perfect time for the Arm chips to launch a counter attack
https://www.theregister.co.uk/AMP/2018/09/18/ampere_shipping/
I would be very interested to see Linus put one through its paces and see how it performs. When they say "upto 125w" is that an under 100% load number or an Intel number? We've all seen Intel chips draw upwards of 400 watts.

the sole source claiming this is again zhihu (segmentnext -> reddit (wtf) -> zhihu). im not familiar with zhihu but as i already quoted earlier:
"Zhihu is a Chinese question-and-answer website where all kinds of questions are created, answered, edited and organized by the community of its users."
doesnt seem like trustworthy source, more like yahoo answers

Neftex got a reaction from JoeCoke in 16-Core Ryzen 9 3000 Series ES Sample spotted & Zen 2 is a Memory OC Beast, DDR4-5000 Possible! (Updated)
what proof does a agent have if he just heard someone planning invasion while undercover? were back to trust

he doesnt care if people believe it, he just releases info he got
as i said choose who you trust, i dont care if you trust him or not. the issue i have is youre calling it fake while you dont have a proof either, its basically hypocrisy

Neftex got a reaction from BiG StroOnZ in 16-Core Ryzen 9 3000 Series ES Sample spotted & Zen 2 is a Memory OC Beast, DDR4-5000 Possible! (Updated)
yes he could be right or wrong, and thats why you look at the record and see if hes reliable. if his previous leaks are mostly true then you can assume he has good verified sources and consider the next leaks also most likely true.
if someones previous leaks are 100% correct, do you just disregard his new leak as "could be right or wrong"? i wouldnt, unless its batshit crazy and other reliable leaks say otherwise.
again, he doesnt care if you believe it and neither do i. i dont even care for this leak itself

Neftex got a reaction from Stefan Payne in AMD's new Radeon RX 3080 XT: RTX 2070 performance for $330?
they had high end products before, better than nvidia. didnt help them one bit.
they didnt intend to get there but as i said above, top end products didnt work out well in the market. so they just stopped doing them

Neftex got a reaction from Origami Cactus in AMD's new Radeon RX 3080 XT: RTX 2070 performance for $330?
i doubt anyone confuses INTEL and AMD, or even NVIDIA and AMD based on the stuff behind the brand name...
the confusion is applicable to something like motherboard chipsets b350 vs b360 from gigabyte? ye that i can see
but INTEL IX XXXX vs AMD RX XXXX
or GEFORCE RTX XXXX vs RADEON RX XXXX

Neftex reacted to ApolloFury in Turkish retailer may have leaked R3000 specs.
I never ever heard anyone saying the Ryzen 2000 is going to be 5GHz and I was following the rumours closely at the time. We were in the impression that Zen+ was just an incremental upgrade with improved latency and memory compatibility, the official AMD roadmap showed this after Zen launched, there wasn't really any hype for Ryzen 2000, it was like AMD's Skylake -> Kabylake.

Neftex got a reaction from EdLynch in Monitor for a 1080 build (with g-sync?) on a budget
get a freesync or gsync "compatible" to save some money
freesync works with nvidia while gsync doesnt work with amd (and intel in the future). so having gsync monitor might lock you out of amd and intel in the future

Neftex reacted to Hackentosher in Replace laptop keyboard with more liquid/ air cooling.
I remember EK made some low profile waterblocks for servers, you might be able to squeeze one of those in there, but I have a feeling you wouldn't be able to close the lid.
Why do you even want to still close the laptop? If you don't have a keyboard in there, you're not taking it places, so why does it matter if it closes or not?
