Honestly I would suggest the Gigabyte G1
    http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn98tg1gaming6gd

    Why?
Factory overclocked and still a decent price.
EKWB makes a full cover block for it, if you want that option.
The stock cooler works well if you don't.
Gigabyte has used 2 DVI outputs where most others only have 1, in-case you run a multiple display setup that use DVI.

    There are 2 models....
    NO (real) Factory OC,  GV-N98TXTREME C-6GD  :

    and with OC,  GV-N98TXTREME-6GD:

Well the Extreme Gaming has no factory OC and costs more.
The Windforce 3x has a small factory OC and is $10 cheaper.
The OC'ed Extreme is $40 more...
The AIO version is a lot more $...

So bang for buck is the G1...

While your DDR3 memory will work just fine(you don't need DDR3L) you are going to have to manually input the VCCIO/VCCSA voltage to ensure no damage will happen to the IMC. It will also be considerably slower than just buying a decent DDR4 kit. You can get 3000mhz CL14 (2x8GB) for $105, or 3200mhz CL14 (2x8GB) for $120. If that sounds too pricey, just get a generic DDR4 16GB kit for $60, and I can walk you through a simple 2800mhz overclock.

If you are dead set on using DDR3, here are your only options. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/#s=30&c=110

Not a single one of those motherboards support SLI either. Take my advice, and move on to DDR4. Staying with DDR3 on Skylake is just going to hold the rest of your system back.

Agreed, but the point is I have heard of others failing very quickly as well, Samsung is the best choice by far.

Slight correction here, Corsair does sell some good PSU's but they don't make them.

Pretty much... except the PSU prob won't burn your house down but it's still on the bottom of the totem pole...

You won't be playing games like GTA V on Very High settings with a 950 and G3258 unless your running a very low resolution to begin with...
You may get 40-50 fps on normal-high settings on 1080p, 60hz with MSAA off.

I'm not expecting much difference, the reason for the upgrade is my components are being gifted to a family member to upgrade their PC so I might as well upgrade mine rather than get another Z97 setup.  Otherwise I would have waited for Broadwell E...

DDR3 is 240-pin DDR4 is 288-pin, you cannot use DDR3 in a DDR4 board or visa versa, while the memory controller on the CPU does support both it is the motherboard manufacturers that decide what ram is used on the motherboard.

Here are some DDR3 skylake motherboards:
    http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/#s=30&L=3&sort=a8&page=1

As for the DDR3L you can use 1.35v ram such as:
    http://pcpartpicker.com/part/mushkin-memory-996988e

There are others but it would take some time to search them all.....

Now in the same way Haswell was based at 1.5v but could handle 1.65v, Skylake is based at 1.2v but can handle 1.35v for overclocking any higher and you risk damaging components and stability.

With all that said I don't see why you wouldn't go for a DDR4 board if your buying a 1151 socket motherboard anyways......

Yeah I'm in Toronto and I paid $870 +13% in July for my reference card. I could have waited for the aftermarket cards but I am not that hardcore of an overclocker and I don't regret my purchase. This card works well and fits my build needs great getting lucky in the lottery was nice though...
I'm interested to see what your max is on water too if heat is holding you back at all now....

Why wouldn't it be close? It is the exact same chip. You pay for the added features on the kingpin. I would have never bought this card tbh, if i didnt get such a crazy deal on it. I paid the same amount that I would have paid on any other aftermarket 980ti

My latest runs I am almost 1k GPU score higher on air than your reference on water. I think that is a significant difference.

A Little bit of common sense here guys, the CS/CX lines are not meant for high-end gaming/OC'ing/Heavy workload builds, that is why the HXRM/RMi/AX/AXi lines are here.

The lower tier units aren't bad when used in the correct way ie: office/email/web use...

The general populous doesn't grasp the difference, they just see "80+ Gold, fully modular 600w" or whatever and assume it will be great for their gaming build because it's relatively cheaper than others...

it shouldn't really be an issue. only issue is your need to overbuild/spend. not being
critical, but you are making harder than it really is.
this streaming thought then will easily be covered with the 6700k as the x99 platform
can do the same, but no edit/render simple stream is spending brain cells unnecessarily.

I do completely agree with you and I appreciate you posting, I think I'm just going to go for the 6700k, it will do what I need it to do and I most likely won't use the full potential anyways...
    Thanks again.

gt403cyl got a reaction from DannyDem in Quick explanation of what the "K" in intel CPU's mean
To overclock the 6700k you need the Z170 chipset.
    CPU's: "K" = overclock
    Motherboards: "Z" = overclock

    At least for Intel's setup.
CPU/MotherBoard: "X"  is the "extreme" lineup which are also overclock ready.

There is no way to tell how it will overclock, it's a trial and error thing (silicon lottery)
