LaughingCheeze reacted to Needfuldoer in 100TB in this TINY case
Or you could go full stupid like I did and build up a retired enterprise server for even less! My R720 with dual 10 gig Ethernet, 40 gig Infiniband, 256 gigs of RAM, Quadro P400, redundant 750 watt 80 Plus Platinum power supplies, and dual E5-2650 V2s cost less than that machine (minus storage). I've got eight WD White 12 TB drives in a RAIDz2, because RAIDz1/RAID5 sketches me out on large-capacity drives.

You just have to not care about looks. Or chassis size. Or noise. And not too much about power consumption. (It idles at 170 watts, half of which is the drives.)

Maybe this build was originally intended to feature the 20 TB Seagate Exos drives?

I have issues with this video:

12x5 = 60, not 100. Title is kinda misleading there. 16GB ram for 60TB raw capacity on TrueNAS will work, but it'll chug eventually and scrubs will be absolutely taxing and will take longer, defeating the purpose of data availability behind using RAID-Z To clarify: The "rule of thumb" that every TB of hard drive needs 1GB of ram is not true, but 60TB on 16GB is walking a fine line in my experience.

Also change the damn title, like come on.

EDIT: thanks for changing the title, thumbnail still says 100TB though.

I have my computer (ThinkPad P50) dual booting Linux Mint and Windows. I have each OS installed on a separate SSD and GRUB (the Linux boot manager) handles which OS I want to load (no need to go into the bios).

In my bios, I have GRUB set and the main boot, with the Windows boot manager behind it.

LaughingCheeze reacted to kasugatei in Can regular cables be used as dummy plugs?
Usually dummy plugs are being used for remote access so when you use eg. TeamViewer or VNC or similar that you don’t get 1024x768 or similar low resolution on your client PC. Also most of the usage is for some specific servers which require GUI based administration.
That being said, the intended purpose is not gaming. When you use remote connection software usually the whole screen is encoded as video. Encoding 4K120 is extremely demanding on the hardware. That is why remote connection is encoded in lower framerate. 4K17 is more than enough for remote access of eg. Windows GUI and as I’ve mentioned before dummy plugs are designed mostly for administration purposes so they fit the bill.

I just joined the thread and was so confusef about what the purpose of this would even be at all but TeamViewer I guess makes sense.
I usually just work with Remote Desktop and they never require any physical displays to be connected for it to work.

1st Issue. the 1ms and other advertised response time specs are NOT 'averages' , they are 'minimums'.  This is why they are so misleading, doesnt help that , like you, people spread incorrect information on this 'spec'. Going to be calling u out on this more and more as u do more Monitor 'reviews' because its something that you should know.

I wouldnt call that screen 'uniform' either, it looks rather bad tbh, though in fairness its somewhat difficult to be sure in such a vid. Still it being a curved VA panel, and being Samsung, bad uniformity was almost a given.

Hopefully Samsung bring out a firmware update with a tuned down overdrive, i would hate to use that display with adaptive sync with that level of un-adjustable overdrive. To much overshoot.

A nice display for sure but, imo, not worth the price. Maybe if it was using high density FALD and ofc didnt have the overdrive and uniformity issues it would be worth it.

What do you want a full academic one paragraph abstract and well sourced introduction?
Besides... every time anyone chooses a title for a thread, or a tweet it is clickbait.  If you don't want people to engage, by clicking, why put it on the net?

    Anyway.
This was a really EPIC video and showed what is possible.  Perhaps someday... we will have a single computer installed in some utility room.  Wired up to standard fiber optic or ethernet in the home.  Much the way we have a hot water heater or central air conditioning now.   While in the past 80-100 years ago, the hot water for your bath was heated right there in the bathroom.

This either needs to be made SO easy to install that any home owner can do it.  OR it has to become something which, like the plumbing and hotwater most people hire a professional to do it... once every 10-20 years.

This sort of disinfo from people who have no understanding of meteorology but talk about it anyway because everything's a gubmint conspiracy to them only serves to make people in the path of a fucking category 4 hurricane be underprepared for it. Please do not spread it.

To everyone reading this thread, ignore the OP. Hurricanes still have tropical force winds along the outer bands; it's the eye wall that's the dangerous part, as far as winds are concerned. If you're in the path of Dorian, stay safe. Do not take this storm lightly.

My 1660 Ti has a gluten-free, vegan and non-GMO nutrition, so I can use it to it's maximum potential. For the highest fps, I also feed it through AGP and with Molex or SATA cables instead of unhealthy PCIe cables.

Welcome to the YouTube, where rules change all the time and everyone has a different set of rules. If the target was some higher sub count account, this wouldn't have been a thing because YT "cares", just like higher sub count accounts get special treatment when it comes to the 5 second de-monetization bot (have <1m subs and have a bit odd dialect -> de-monetized under 5 seconds, have 10m subs and make a video where you crack a joke about suiciders body -> de-monetized hours after public outcry). I would bet my life on if pewdiepie was to upload the whole Avengers: Endgame today, YT wouldn't do a shit before Walt Disney or Marvel has sued pewdiepie.

Half Life finished in that level where you enter a small room to get ammo and the HECU soldiers knock you down, put you in stasis in an underground facility similar to Aperture's one. The Xen aliens and the Combine overlords did existed but killed everyone, gathered resources and left.
What's left of the world can be seen in Portal II ending, nobody has been there in a long time (centuries passed)

Portal takes place at the same time as Half-Life as there is a subtle reference to the invasion in the game and also in the ending song.
