Cheap stuff with lithium batteries, you should run far, and run fast. Cheap stuff that plugs in to your mains socket (or outlet for our American cousins) normally has less scope for burning your house down, as it should trip the breaker before reaching that point. Do you feel lucky?

Personally I wouldn't. There are so many cheap, dangerous, electrical goods out there that claim to be certified, and even have the CE mark, but aren't. Looking like ones that are for sale in more traditional retailers is no guarantee that they are the same product. They could be the same, but have failed the QC, or they may have entirely different internals.

I'm firmly in the 'from my cold dead hands' camp on the Windows key. But the problem with replacing the scroll lock key instead, or any of the other almost useless legacy keys, is that these are already absent from laptops.

The space to the right of the space bar is at a premium already, on smaller keyboards. Many are already missing a right Ctrl & win in favour of function shift keys. It seems like a really stupid place to try to place in an extra key.

Monkey Dust got a reaction from Stahlmann in When buying a system nowadays, how long should one wait to upgrade?
I think the time to upgrade is when you can't run a game, that you really enjoy, as well as you'd like. Or sooner, if you just fancy spending some money.

I know... as I said in the story your phone won't kill you by having bad software

I guess if some charging firmware was really REALLY bad and could make your phone go Note 7 BOOM...

I think this is why it is called a recall.  To emphasize the urgency and also protect Tesla from anyone who does such a thing.  If they try to avoid the fix that's on them.

Which is why I said in the original post that this is to make sure no one tries to avoid the update.  A partial "self driving" feature should not be called "self driving".  Words matter.  Driver assist or advanced cruise control are a better description.

Elon as usual tends to overpromise.  Hyperloops by 2019 and being on Mars by 2022 etc.  He tries god bless him and it's great when it works but lets be realistic.

True, if the game has been pushed out before it was ready, waiting for performance patches is a good move. A depressingly large number of games these days need to be given 6 months following release to get a good experience.

I'm holding off buying Cities Skylines 2 until performance is fixed. I'm not buying a 4090, and still probably running into issues.

Yeah, if you have put your GPU in a slot that only supports 1x, there is your problem. You need to get the GPU to fit in the top slot, buy a new case if necessary.

Also, another vote for reinstalling windows.

As one of this forum's grumpy old men, it is my duty to point out that you young'uns don't know how easy you have it. When I was a lad, we had to make PCs out of coal and our own tears...

A lot of the complaints centred around aesthetics. Firstly that's optional. Secondly, if you do decide to pursue it will cost time and money, as it does with cars, clothes, houses and loads of other things.

Cable management is easier than ever. Look at old case reviews, cable management was an afterthought, or really old, it was non-existent (anyone else remember tucking IDE ribbon cables behind the motherboard?). Plus no more cables for optical drives, and for a quite a lot of us now, no cables for SSDs either. Faults occur less than in the past, things setup themselves. Overclocking and fine-tuning gives such tiny gains these days, it's entirely optional.

I will concede GPU price inflation, that has been brutal over the past 4 years. Other than that, I's say it's no harder than 10 years ago, and a lot easier than 20 years ago.

This doesn't surprise me much - this kind of service category has always made me extremely skeptical. Not because in theory it could be useful, but because in practice its the kind of thing that can easily get away with no measurable value. How do I know if I am getting my money's worth? How do I know that things were actually removed that should have been? It is all too easy for this sort of thing to be, "Here, we invented a problem, but don't worry, here's a solution!" The fact that these kinds of services are almost always recurring subscriptions with bundled extras is a telling sign.

Yeah, super confusing in English-speaking counties where accents aren't a thing, as we often leave them off words. The bags are Hermès, the delivery service, Hermes. Hermes, apparently being the Greek god of claiming to have delivered your package, but actually left it at a house 2 miles away.
