  1. It seems to be run in its own sandbox, personally I'm not worried about it at all. I haven't had any issues so far these past couple of months. So I'm hoping it's 100% fine. *fingerscrossed*
  2. Sorry I was a bit mistaken, it doesn't require Java to be installed on the system, but the Minecraft Launcher downloads the most up-to-date Java version and runs it inside its own ecosystem, so the PC doesn't have access to Java at all only Minecraft does. More info here: http://www.howtogeek.com/210907/minecraft-doesnt-need-java-installed-anymore-its-time-to-remove-it/ So technically it does use Java, but you never have to download or touch Java ever again in regards to Minecraft. Which is a huge plus for me, I love Minecraft just to kill a few hours or mod the crap out of it and needing Java really put a hamper to that with all these security concerns coming up constantly.
  3. I have already switched to uBlock Origin since AB/ABP have been extremely untrustworthy these past few years. The only website I need flash for is Twitch, but I just found a program called "Twitcha" that lets me follow(or link my account) any game and streamer and lets me watch their stream through VLC. Way better and there's an in-program chat window, but I don't use chat so I don't know how well it works. I think older Minecraft versions or mods still require Java, but I only play the later ones so no Java needed for me. It's really worrisome that these things happen and it seems no one wants to put a permanent stop to them. Always just workarounds.
  4. From the last time I played GW2 the PvP was quite thriving, just a bit bland for my taste(I'm not into MMO PvP's, just isn't my thing). There's also WvW(World vs World) which is just servers fighting each other PvP style with objectives to capture. I didn't see you mention it, but just in case Guild Wars 2 has a F2P version you could try, account restrictions here: http://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157?_ga=1.240955781.78332403.1436571105 F2P is mostly chat and mail restrictions so gold farmers/sellers can't use free accounts easily. You should be able to create a character and immediately join PvP if I remember correctly, don't have to worry about PvE levels since everyone scales to level 80 in PvP. You're restricted from playing WvW until level 60, because it helps deter spying/gold farmers and also I believe your PvE rank actually is used there(or some form of dynamic leveling). Other than that, you can make two characters for free and level them both to 80, grind for gear in dungeons/PvE and do end game stuff all without spending a dime. You pretty much get the base game for free with just a few restrictions. If you enjoy the game then all you have to do is buy Heart of Thorns(can't buy the core game anymore) and it'll upgrade your account automatically(or you input a code if you buy it physically) or just keep playing as a F2P member, doesn't really hurt you in the slightest. I'm waiting for a sale later on since my guildies and I moved on from the game to play other MMO's. If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them the best I can, also the Guild Wars 2 wiki is really good, here's the PvP page if you're interested: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Player_versus_Player
  5. Honestly this should have been a thing since PS2/Xbox generation. The only thing I could see an outcry about is that console users are paying a fee to play online, which is complete crap and is the main reason I stopped playing on Xbox. As long as you can turn off crossplay in your own game then I don't think console users would raise a stink about playing against PC users and I personally don't care if a console user has aim assist, it doesn't make them an aimbot, just levels the playing field a bit. I welcome this 100%, it's great that so many games in the future could have more total population so most don't die off straight away, like Battlefront. On PC there's only 2,000 people playing, but on console it's 40,000(combined). If PC players could join them then the PC version of Battlefront wouldn't be dead right now. Hopefully more games take advantage of this in the future, more people the better!
  6. Yes, but removing the Start Button/Menu and outright blocking you from using a program are entirely two different things. Sure, but again, if they did forcefully block you from using any program there would be backlash and Microsoft would not do that when they have enough backlash already. They could totally do it as per the EULA, but they won't because it'll be suicide for them, tons of people would either install Windows 7/8 or go to Linux if that were to happen.
  7. I don't think MS would do this as there would be huge backlash, at least coming from the enthusiast and hobby groups. Pretty far stretch IMO. Personally I'm going to wait for a big group of people claiming this happens than a far few. It's probably just W10 acting up or something. So, MS could block piracy and people downloading Linux. It's a win-win for them! #tinfoilhat /s
  8. Unfortunately this thread has turned unproductive. Locking it to preserve our ""Don't be a dick" - Wil Wheaton." & ""Be excellent to each other" - Bill and Ted." guidelines.
  9. I would say it's a bit early, but I also have a lot of video games that don't support it. If you have a relatively small library of games you play, you can check to see if they have Ultrawide support here: http://www.wsgf.org/mgl/uws That list has nearly all games with Ultrawide support either "Natively", via ".ini edit", or via "Registry" changes. There's almost 450 games on that list and a great amount have Native support for Ultrawide. So if the majority of games you own do have Ultrawide support, then you can upgrade if you want, but be wary that devs are very iffy when it comes to Ultrawide support currently. So don't be surprised if there's future games you want to play that don't support it. You could also play games in 1920x1080/2560x1440 and just deal with black bars while in fullscreen if that doesn't bother you, so you can play in Ultrawide with the games that support it and also play games just like you would with a 16:9 monitor.
  10. It's a great game, but their server setup and customer service is downright stupid. My thread on the issue I had: Basically I lost two characters(One male, one female), which had hundreds of hours of playtime, tens of millions of dollars, personalized cars, and tons of progress made. I was able to get one character back with its original rank(level 65), ~$14 million(lost over $30 million on hand), none of my progress on heists nor challenges or anything was able to be restored. So, if you buy the game make sure to take pictures of everything you have. Stats, completed missions, cars, money, etc. I was able to get more money and my rank back with Steam's achievement system(there's a level 100 achievement, I had level 65/100) and pictures. Honestly wish I never bought the game at this point. I did get 200 hours out of it for my $60 purchase, but now it's just a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't seen nor heard of anyone else experiencing this, so it's probably just a one in a million thing that happened to me, but it's just weird they couldn't reset my account back to a certain date and that they had no information whatsoever about my two characters.
  11. Oh, I assumed you were strictly talking about BC2 servers on PC, my bad, but.. As far as I can find they have said BC1 servers are still up on consoles, even their service shutdown list doesn't list it: http://www.ea.com/1/service-updates The only thing I can find in the last year is services being unavailable, but a community manager said they were fixed a couple days later: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-EA-Games/Resolved-Battlefield-Bad-Company-1-quot-No-Games-Available-quot/td-p/4675986 So either the servers are still up or they don't want to fix them nor announce they aren't fixing them. So, if you have the time I'd love confirmation if they are up still or not. I'm genuinely curious at this point haha.
  12. I'd love to see Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, and Reach on PC. I know there's Halo Online, but it's just not the same. I want to play the main trilogy's story again and ODST is so good singleplayer wise and Firefight was amazing with friends. Unfortunately I don't see it turning out well on PC since Microsoft refuses to fix MCC on Xbox One still, completely abandoning it. At least on PC modders could fix the issues themselves, well as long as Microsoft doesn't lock anything down or does takedown notices. No they didn't. Gamespy shut down which caused a lot of games to lose multiplayer, but EA updated their three BF games with different server support, source: http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/10/ea-saving-battlefield-multiplayer/ You can see community Bad Company 2 servers here: https://www.gametracker.com/search/bc2/?sort=3&order=DESC I agree with your game choice though, loved the BC series and would love BC1 on PC, just to play the singleplayer again! Really great humor and memorable characters.
  13. If you can get BF4+Premium on sale for $20 then I'd recommend it(usually goes on sale quite frequently). But if not BF3 is fine, even without DLC's since a lot of servers just use the base game. Oh and you can check BF4 and BF3 servers online, they are all publicly searchable. BF3: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/servers/ BF4: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/servers/ You should apply filters, Battlelog is finicky when it comes to listing servers. You could just get BF4 without any DLC too, but when it's on sale getting the game and DLC for only $20 is a pretty good deal.
  14. I can totally see drones being banned from sale in the U.S. before 2020. People are just going to continue doing these stupid things whether because they are ignorant or they're trolling so they get them banned on purpose. Drones are going to be black market products soon.
  15. I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in and it isn't directly about Windows Store. Microsoft, when it comes to gaming in general, does not know what to do, at all. They don't know what Xbox users want, they don't know what PC users want, and they will never know until we hurt their profits. As an example, look at Kinect. Kinect is a great product for a vast amount of use cases, except gaming. However, Microsoft thought it was the best idea to take Kinect and force it on Xbox One users(by including it in the packaging) only to remove it from the packaging months later because no one was using it and people refused to buy it since it added cost to it. Microsoft even bought a developer and later turned them into a Kinect developer(RIP Rare). Kinect was NEVER a "gaming" product and Microsoft could not understand that for 5 whole years. But on the sideline for that 5 years there were tons of other industries wanting access to Kinect, whether it was robotics, medical, or just basic movement tracking. Even with the Xbox One version it took Microsoft a year(IIRC?) to bring out a PC version of the Kinect. Now we're all familiar with GFWL, so I don't need nor want to go into that. But you can see my point. Microsoft sucks when it comes to introducing and maintaining good ideas in the gaming space. They really need to turn this whole Windows Store situation around entirely and hopefully it doesn't take 5 years to kill it off after it's apparent they aren't going anywhere or end up dead after this decade when they tell us they're fixing it the whole time.
  16. I'm like that as well, the only racing games I play online on are games like Burnout Paradise haha. I don't like racing online in sim racers, just feels, weird? So don't think it's too unusual haha.
  17. Hey all, since all of you quoted me/talked about no wheel support based on my comment I thought I'd like to update you all that the game will have wheel support, but not at launch and I can't find a date of when it will be added, so "SoonTM"... Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/forza-motorsport-6-apex-reveal,31302.html Just in case you all didn't see an update about it!
  18. DP, forever and ever and ever. Seriously, best connector out there! I refuse to use anything else unless I need to plug in a TV.
  19. Supposedly this doesn't have multiplayer nor wheel support: http://www.virtualr.net/forza-motorsport-6-apex-officially-announced *Edit: Looks like there is going to be wheel support, but not at launch and there's no set date of when wheel support is going to be added: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/forza-motorsport-6-apex-reveal,31302.html So, start tweeting at the Forza Mortorsport twitter about wanting it! *Edit, updated info.
  20. Yeah and they did the exact same thing with Halo 2 and Gears of War back in 2007 with GFWL and Vista. And here we are now. Again, people can be optimistic all they want, but I've been optimistic for GFWL since 2007/2008 and them constantly reassuring that they are going to improve it, but then just abandon it to start this throws up huge red flags. Sorry, but this does not show any promise whatsoever to me. It just says to me that Microsoft didn't look at it's past and history is now repeating itself.
  21. I would definitely go for the M.2 SSD+HDD. However, I would spring for a 240GB/256GB M.2 SSD if you can spare. I have a 256GB SSD and a 3TB hard drive. I have enough space on my SSD for all my main programs, MS Office, adobe suite, and a very decent amount of games. Usually after installing Windows and all the programs I use, I have about 150GB left. Which might seem like a lot of space, but if you put your most played games on it OR a couple of the recent AAA games(most 50GB-60GB in size each) that have come out then that 150GB is gone instantly. I also like a little buffer zone, about 30GB-40GB of free space on my SSD just in case I need to move files or something. Everything else can go on the 3TB. I like to have the games I'm playing through once installed on the SSD until I beat it, just feels better with shorter load times and the game will be deleted later anyway. Obviously this is really dependent on how big your Steam Library is. I have almost 600 games, obviously I don't play them all at the same time, but there are games that I *need* to have installed on my PC at all times, but only a few really benefit from a SSD. Recently Fallout 4 has noticeably faster loading saves on SSD's(obviously), and it's only ~30GB. If you had a 128GB SSD, after formating and installing Windows you'd have about 100GB of space left, then Fallout 4 would bring that down to ~70GB. So if you don't have a lot of games or any games that benefit from being on a SSD, then just get a 128GB M.2 SSD, but if you do have a few games then you might want to consider a 256GB M.2 SSD. Either way, I'd definitely do a M.2+HDD setup.
  22. Given Microsoft's decade long track record of saying, but not doing, this is very hard to take serious in any way. Everyone is welcome to believe whatever they want, but after the past decade of "promises" about improving their relationship with PC gamers and their GFWL platform utterly being abandoned without even an announcement just shows how unprofessional Microsoft is in the PC gaming space. Again, believe whatever you want, but I'm not biting. They haven't shown a bit of promise so far and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Having said that, make me eat my words Microsoft. I'd love to see it(not hear it).
  23. Sorry but I only use HDMI on my TV and that's just for the audio passthrough. I would never use HDMI on my monitors. It's a terrible connector compared to DP. DP masterrace.
  24. The Origin client is perfect for what they need, my only qualm with EA is that their games need to be fleshed out more and they need to get rid of Battelog for their Battlefield games. They really need to support community features more like community servers, server browsers, custom game modes, etc. But the client isn't a nuisance at all and they have sales pretty regularly for their games. Also their customer support is top notch. I don't think I have had an issue with the client or their services at all. Battlelog is my only real gripe.
  25. The only way they would give in is if no one uses their services. If no one uses it then they'd be forced to change. I use Origin without any issues, it's come a long way and EA's customer support is really good, but their games need to get better. Uplay is straight up garbage and their games are mediocre at best. The client got a face lift recently, but it's still very basic. If they would drop it and just sell their games without needing the client I would buy more of them, but it's not worth the hassle currently in my opinion.
