I am helping a friend move his alienware to a new case, but we didn't get a new motherboard, if anyone can help because alienware uses strange power cables and power boards

It's just for games, os is loaded onto the 750 series I already have

Will I suffer any performance losses or is it smarter to just get a sata ssd?

I am running a core i7 6700k, asus z170-a mobo, gtx 980 ti, 750 series pcie ssd, and some asus wifi card (I cant remember the name). I ran out of storage on my ssd, and I wanted to upgrade to an m.2 ssd. My only question is, am I out of cpu lanes or can I use my chipset lanes? I cannot use Ethernet either. (My wifi router is directly below me, and the stairs are on the other side of the house) sorry for types here and there.

My mother board is the Asus z170-a

Do m.2 drives use my pci lanes? I am really confused because I have a 750 series ssd, a wifi card, and my gpu occupying my 16 lanes. Would a m.2 still work? (the pc parts mentioned below are out of date, I have just never changed them)

How would you go about doing this?

I've tried troubleshooting, and no progress, I can't reset it to factory, so I got IT coming out. Thank you though for your help!
