  1. Got my workshop jacket today. It’s great. what the hell is the little zippy pocket on the bottom right inside meant for? that’s all.
  2. Followup: I took it back, the shop tested it and it was faulty. I walked out with a pair of 970s and stuck them in my machine.
  3. No other GPUs. This is the first PC I have built for about 15 years, so no old GPUs around. It really can't be software because it immediately cranks to 100% as soon as the machine is powered up. I'll take the card back to the shop tomorrow.
  4. I get the impression you guys didn't really read my post? http://www.anandtech.com/show/8589/anandtech-guide-to-video-card-overclocking-software/4 Software does nothing to change things
  5. Hi All I have a week old system that was performing perfectly. I played Elite Dangerous for about five hours (first time for so long) on Friday night then on Saturday I booted the machine and the GPU fans went to Max on power up (before boot) and stayed there. The system runs completely normally, it just sounds like there is a Jet on its takeoff roll in the room The GPU software reports the fans are at zero, or if the manual slider is set to x% it reports the fans being x% The system normally runs almost silent and pretty cool. It sounds to me like there is a fan controller problem of some kind and the fans are going to some kind of failsafe. I took the card out and stuck it back in, to no avail. I plan to take it back to the shop, but thought I would ask in case there is a fix someone knows. 64bit Windows 8.1 5930K on Asus X99 Delux with Noctua cooler (the massive one) Standard (not overclocked) Asus GTX980 Strix 1920x1200 Asus Monitor Running through DP Corsair 850w Gold (I think) Power supply NZXT Phantom Case Bios is current, as are the drivers
  6. This is probably a good idea; I assume I can tell the case fans to spool up when that sensor reaches a certain temp. I'm afraid not. There are loads of sensor inputs though. All this makes Apple's engineering look pretty amazing. My Macs have a massive load of sensors that are all over the place; all controlled mysteriously by the BIOS.
  7. I've just built myself a lovely X-99 Delux, 5930K, GTX980 Strix with a Noctua cooler in a Phantom case. So all the fans are working and the CPU clocked to 4.5Ghz, but there is a little thermometer in the MoBo box that I can put somewhere. Where should I stick it?
  8. I have been looking for a 5930K and these 'deals' are not... deals. Especially in Canada.
  9. +1 for the Automotive radiator and fans. It would be way cheaper (if not sponsored) and built for harsh environments.
  10. I watched the mineral PC series on Linus' channel and was fascinated. I last built a PC at University in the 90s and at that time came to the conclusion that a glass case with mineral oil would be fantastic. I talked to my friends about it and they thought it was nuts/incredibly cool. Since then I have been a Mac user but tides are turning my 40th birthday is on the 21st of December and I have a strong feeling my presents are going to be PC components! Mini ITX would probably be the thing. I think it is majorly uncool for http://www.liquidcoolsolutions.com to take that kind of action against http://www.pugetsystems.com; they aren't even in the same market. I went to the liquid cooling solutions site with an open mind, expecting there to be some kind of kit like the Puget Systems one but found nothing. I'm not sure what the law says, but maybe the SketchUp model for the kit could be made public as a series of parts on the 3D warehouse for home builders?
