  1. damn that's already a budget gear... didn't realize music recording was an expensive thing to get into
  2. wow thank you very much for the time and effort you put in gathering the links and giving the explanations! I might do what you said and start off with an audio interface and the Shure SM57, just because I'm not filthy rich, and slowly buy more and more of the other parts that you recommend, buying them all at the same time would probably be too much of a culture shock for me... and at least I'll see the improvement in quality as I buy more and more parts. I don't understand though what the PreSonus Studio One software is for though? is it to calibrate the studio monitors or something? would getting good headphones be useful too and possibly be good enough to replace getting studio monitors? I'm guessing that for recording that I'll need closed headphones since open would be heard on the microphone? one last thing, I understand what room acoustics do, and I was wondering if I could do some kind of setup like what Linus does (with the microphone in a little half cylinder acoustics chamber) instead of putting all those pads in the room, since I'm just gonna use my bedroom. what I'm actually planning to ask is what can I do to block outside noise? since I live with my family sometimes sound still manages to leak in my room and also from the streets outside, what could I do to minimize this?
  3. thanks for the input guys! wow I thought recording music was more simple, just get a mic and plug it into my PC haha! but with that I'm now more confused than before I made my question... so here they go I haven't really checked the prices yet so I don't know if I'll go with the Shure and mixing the tracks, or get two mics like what said and record at the same time, I just want to know though, if I'll record my voice on one mic while recording an acoustic guitar on a different mic, how would the final track sound? like will it sound nice or like I'm listening from two different speakers that are recording the same thing but it sounds weird? and for ZmanFTW I want to know if studio monitors are the only way to go, because I'm actually planning on buying bookshelf speakers and I saw that they look pretty darn similar to each other, I don't even know what differences they have. I'm also confused if the Focusrite USB Audio Interface and the Focusrite ISA One serve the same purpose or what, an explanation on their purpose would be nice, and if I really need them or not especially since I'm not really recording any professional music (since all this feels so professional to me) also if you guys can provide any detailed tutorial as to what these are and how I'm gonna use them would be appreciated. I don't even know what key words to search for to find the information I need...
  4. so I want to record some songs... but I don't really know what kind of setup I need It'll just be vocals and an acoustic guitar, and maybe a piano that's far away from the PC. with that, what setup would I need? I just thought at first to get separate microphones for each instrument (like one for voice and one for guitar) but I wondered if that's actually good since the two won't really be far from each other... sorry I'm really just inexperienced at this, I noticed that some of you here do some music recording and productivity like that so I just hope to get some tips on what to do for setups like these. I'm not sure about a budget, since I don't really know what's the price range of good or bad microphones. but if I had to say now, maybe $200 could be a max budget for me. of course if you guys would recommend something better, and it is justifiable, then please recommend.
  5. oh so you're saying that it's really a hassle to do it that way? I'll probably buy the SSD first then, since I'm getting the 512gb version, I think it'll hold up long enough till I get an HDD for storage of other stuff
  6. hey guys I need some life tips here... I'm choosing between buying a Seasonic M12II-520 EVO ($87.43) and a Seasonic M12II-750 EVO ($143.47)... (prices are just converted from our local prices here in the Philippines) the reason why I'm choosing between two different wattage's is that I'm gonna get a 970 and upgrade to a dual 970 SLI in the indefinite future so of course for the single 970 I just need the Seasonic M12II-520 EVO to do a good enough job. but I'm just thinking if I should just get the Seasonic M12II-750 EVO already so that I won't have to buy another PSU when I buy another 970. what do you guys think is the better life decision? of course buying the Seasonic M12II-520 EVO will initially save me money, or just let me allow more money to be allocated to other components (besides GPU). while getting the Seasonic M12II-750 EVO will save me more money in the long run I think since I won't have to buy another PSU anymore, and what will I do with the Seasonic M12II-520 EVO when I buy the Seasonic M12II-750 EVO?
  7. so I was originally planning on buying an MX100 to start with my new PC, which would mean it will store the OS and whatever other programs I'll be having (like video editors). but I just found out (very lately) about the news of the new MX200 and thought that if I wait until it releases then maybe I can get the MX100 for even cheaper. if that's the case then I'll just buy a Seagate Barracuda first and configure everything to it, and by the time the MX100 gets cheaper I'll buy one and transfer everything I need to transfer there. I just wanna know if this is a difficult thing to do, and also if you guys think the MX100 will drop its prices at least by July?
  8. well I guess I'll have to see when I get it. I read that filling up an SSD would slow it down, so I just thought to free up its space as much as I can. But yeah, I'll probably have like one game at a time installed at the SSD itself so that there won't be any hassle, and I'll just stock up on games that I might play in the HDD hehe.
  9. oh okay, so even if the videos I'll be editing will be in the HDD, as long as the video editing software is in the SSD then there won't be any slowing down in the speed of the editing and rendering? and is there a not so easy way to move games from their install location? I remember in high school, my friend would bring a flashdrive with Battlefield World at War "installed" in it, and he would just transfer the files to the desktops at our schools and we'd be able to play it.
  10. thank you all for the unanimous suggestion, I'll definitely get the barracuda then
  11. you mean moving them from HDD to SSD, since playing them from the SSD would make it snappier. if for example I'd waste 10 mins in loading a games, I'd rather waste it all at the same time in transferring the game to the SSD rather than experiencing slow load times and stuff while playing from the HDD, hope this made some sense haha. and thanks I just wasn't 100% sure if video watching was affected
  12. so the only added benefit of the WD Green would be the silence? which I honestly don't care about anyway.
  13. okay so like any reasonable person, I want to get the most bang from my (upcoming) system, so in terms of storage solutions here's what I've come up with. I'm gonna get a 512gb MX100 and a WD Green (not sure how many tb yet) what I'll do is that I'll install main (like I'll be using constantly) software stuff in MX100 like OS, video editor, etc. and store games and files like videos and photos in the WD Green, then just temporarily transfer files to the MX100 when I'll be using them (like if I'm gonna play games I'll just transfer them and put them back after playing, and transfer videos or photos for when I'll be editing them. not sure about watching thought, will there be any difference from watching movies from an SSD and an HDD?) so yeah that's basically the plan, hoping to get the most bang for my buck is all it is, would you guys give this a thumbs up? if not what other strategies would you guys recommend?
  14. nice! I was just wondering why you got the 4790k haha! I on the other hand will do video editing, and might get 16gb ram.
  15. awesome! I'm still about to build my PC and I'm also gonna use the Air 540, although I'm gonna get a 4690k instead of a 4790k. can I ask what you use your PC for? do you do some video editing or just normal stuff and gaming?
  16. oh darn it haha, what are your components by the way?
  17. sadly I couldn't find anyone selling that here in the Philippines...
  18. I based my choice of PSU from this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html which I saw from another post here in the forums from that I found that the cheapest PSU that they sell here in the Philippines, that also falls under tier 1 were from the Seasonic M12II series, with a choice from 520w (for single 970 use), 620w, or 750w (both could possibly power a dual 970 SLI, although as recommended by others, the breathing room that the 750w gives is probably better)
  19. may I ask what you do with your PC that probably cranks up the power consumption of your 970 SLI?
  20. yeah I did that before but actually got lower recommended PSU wattage, now I'm just basing on this http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm
  21. I buy a 970 (which only has a 500w recommendation), while planning on buying another 970 to SLI within a year? since the 970 SLI has a recommended PSU wattage of 700w.
  22. might I ask if there are tier lists for other parts? like RAM and SSD?
  23. now I'll just have to search around if they sell those velour pads here haha
