  1. Okay, Looks like a second GTX 980 will be saved up for. We have a house rule in the house that all money from sales go to upgrades or replacements of items. Such as, If we sell a PC, it goes to the financing of a new PC or upgrade of a PC. so we have multiple savings accounts for various projects around the house hold from computers, home entertainment systems, kitchen/appliances etc.. it takes longer to save sometimes but it's not extra money out of pocket if we can help it. Thank You Again for all your help.
  2. what brand would you recommend? i'm not sure where I would fit the tube res. within the case. My case sits on it's side. does a tube res that sits sideways still function correctly?
  3. Thanks everyone for your help so quickly. I wasn't expecting such a quick response. I have a feeling my son is saving his money for a 4k display which is going to scare me if he does save enough to buy one haha. that might change a few things in peoples answers.
  4. I have 3x Asus VG248QE and 1x Asus PA248Q IPS display. Play games on my 3 Asus VG monitors at 144Hz at 1080p
  5. I'm trying to decide on a bay resivoir for a Corsair Air 540 Case. I think I need a bay res based on the style of the case. I've researched some options and now bringing the final opinion to the forums. From what i've found from different ones like XPSC (Heard they leak a lot) and otherones like Darkside from Canada (Fairly Unheard of brand), PrimoChill (Saw some bad reviews on NCIX), EK Bay Res (Good brand name but dont know if this bay res is any good), The best one i've come across in my opionon is the Koolance RP-452x2 Rev 2.0 with Dual D5. It seems to have the best setup options, looks pretty bad ass (i hate the simple ugly clear acrylic box look), but being new to the idea of water cooling over air cooling (My usual has always been air for over 15 years) i'm not sure what options would be best in a family use computer that is constantly going all day and night with work and games. Any suggestions with facts to help me decide would be helpful. I love LTT channel but he doesn't go over much on water cooling resovoirs, or bay style res as those aren't very popular. I'm looking for somthing that accepts LED, something that matches the dark grey Corsair 540 Air case. The case is set into my desk rack mount on it's side. Also if possible i'd like to have a bay res that accepts dual D5 pumps, but I might be getting limited in options. I know the Darkside also has a Dual D5 bay res option next to Koolance, but then again, not sure of their quality. Are their any brands that i'm missing that I should be researching? This system will have to last me 3 or more years or so as well. so i'm probably within that timeframe going to be adding a 2nd or 3rd GTX 980 over the years so maybe that has some weight on what res to use? I doubt it but I don't know enough yet, i'm still learning. Current specs: Maximus VII Formula board 4790k 32gigs Savage Memory CL9 1866 1.5V Noctua NH-L12 CPU Cooler EVGA GTX 980 SC Corsair AX860i Corsair Air 540 Case 3x Noctua Industrial PPC Fans 3x Corsair AFL 140mm Fans 3x 24gig SSD 1x 2TB WD Black
  6. My son and I share the same PC. For christmas we built a new family computer together and selling our old one. New PC Specs: Corsair Air 540 Intel 4790k, Asus Maximus VII Formula motherboard, EVGA GTX 980 SC, 32gigs HyperX Savage Quad memory 1866mhz CL9 at 1.5v, Noctual NH-L12 CPU Cooler, 3x 120mm Noctua Industrial PPC front intake, 2x 140mm Corsair AFL Top Exhaust Fans 1x 140mm Corsair AFL Rear Exhaust Fans 1x 240gig SSD OS Drive 2x 240gig SSD Raid 0 Gaming Drive 1x 2TB WD Black Storage Drive 1x Corsair AX860i PSU. My son likes to game a lot (COD AW, Black Ops 2, Far Cry 4, AC Unity, Monopoly lol), he's 14, I do a little gaming mostly Assassins creed series and Skyrim and internet/online work. My Question: I'm selling our old PC for $650. Would it be worth putting that money towards watercooling the Corsair Air 540 computer in a custom loop with a single GTX 980 that it has OR would you guys save the money and buy a second matching GTX 980 for SLI and not water cool? Based on the specs above and knowning my 14 year old likes to game what would you do? Dual GTX 980 in SLI or Customer water Cooling Loop?
  7. Thanks, when I put my case into my desk rack it throttles so I can't run my 4790k above stock. If I flip the right side to both intake, would the dual 80mm rear fans be enough for exhaust? The noctua nh-l12 cooler shoots air down at the cpu as per stock settings. Should I change it around? I took the two white hdd trays out and mounted my two SSD's to the front side of the case. I only use two 256gig in raid0 for minimal heat. Out of the Rack I can get a stable 4.5Ghz with my 1600Mhz 32gig ram ocerclocked to 2133mhz and my gtx 980 overclocked to 1466mhz. The Rack is killing my systems potential but I have very limited space. Maybe I'm missing something, the key to cooling my system in a small space? My rack has no back so it's a hollow 3 foot space behind the computer
  8. Ran Aida64 for an hour and so far my systems not surpassing 1.63 volts on the ram at 2133mhz and with a cpu bump to 4.5Ghz at 1.28v the temp are under 70deg Celsius.
  9. I got it to boot at 2133mhz at 11-12-12-27 2T Thanks for all your help. I'll run aida64 (it's all I have for testing) and see how it handles.
  10. Thanks for your help. Maybe it's not worth pushing it. I just seen people push the savage ram to 2400mhz and thought 1866 was going to be easy.
  11. Ok so instead of the xmp options in bios, I should manually set the timings? Should I start at 1.6v?
  12. Just bought the new Hyperx Savage 32gig 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V quad kit (4x8) for my new build asus maximus formula vii + an Intel i7-4790k. I cant get the ram to go higher than the posted 1600Mhz xmp. I selected 1866mhz and my system turns on the shuts down and then Loops over and over. I'm running a corsair TX750 Watt psu and a single gtx 980. I can't find much info on this ram yet, I guess it's Still quite new. Any suggestions why it won't post over 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24?
  13. The Case sits in my Studio Rack and that's why I bought the case. I'm looking to build a custom case to replace this but that wont be till later next year. For now, this is what I have to work with. I'm only able to overclock the i7-4790K to 4.3Ghz at 1.230 Volts to keep temps down far enough in Aida64 benchmark with out CPU Throttling. Motherboard: Asus Maximus Formula Vii CPU: Intel 4790K Graphics: EVGA GTX 980 SC Ram: 32gig Kingston HyperX Savage 1600Mhz CL9 Quad Kit 4x8 (Can't overclock XMP higher than 1600 for some reason? any help would be great) Fans: 3x Noctua NF-F12 Industrial PPC 2000rpm 3pins Fans: 2x Noctua NF-R8 1800rpm PWM 4pins CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L12 Drives: 2x SanDisk 256gig SSD (Raid 0) I have tons of cooling power in my mind, but there has to be a better way to place the fans or something? the right side of the case has intake and exhaust almost cancelling eachother out, I was debating putting a divider inbetween them... would that help?
  14. Hey Guys, I'm looking at re building my gaming setup with the gear I already have in my other system (Fractal Node 605). The only downside is it needs to sit in my studio rack and allow for great water-cooling options. My fractal Node 605 overheats in my rack if I overlock the 4790k and my EVGA GTX 980 SC. I looked at the Cooler Master HAF XB but it's pretty ugly in the front. The look i'm going for is basically turning a CaseLabs Magnum SMA8 with a bottom radiator basement setup and turning it sideways so the clear full XL window faces forward and the radiator fans pull air from the front and exhaust out the rear. I have 19" wide and 13" in height and depth of 19" Currently I have a bunch of recording gear but it's been removed and waiting for the next big thing. I've attached a modded CM HAF XB case where the top of the case turned into the front panel which is something I may have to do but have no experience with modding. Current Components have are: 2014 - Gaming PC - Windows 8.1 Pro Media Centre Edition - Fractal Node 605 HTPC Case - Asus Maximus Formula Vii - Intel 4790k - Noctua NH-L12 CPU Cooler - EVGA GTX 980 SC Reference cooler - 32gig Kingston HyperX Savage 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V (Quad Kit) - 3x 120mm Noctua Industrial PPC 2000rpm 3pin - 2x 80mm Noctua NF-R8 1800rpm 4pin PWM - 2x 256gig SanDisk SSD (Raid 0 System Drive) - 1x 1TB external USB 3.0 Storage Drive - 1x External Slim BlueRay Drive Displays: - 3x Asus VG248QE 144Hz (2 via DP one DVI because of broken DP connection) - 1x Asus PA248Q Photo Editing IPS Monitor (connected by DVI from my MacPro) - This monitor will sit as a 4th accessory monitor above my center screen vis DP - 1x HP LM2445 Monitor in server room mirrored to my mac via HDMI to DVI adapter) Thanks Dom
