i must seriously be the only person that doesn't have these kind of problems the people on this forum complaint about constantly. never have i had windows restart while im in the middle of something, or interrupt anything im doing. maybe that's because i turn my pc off every night. maybe that's the fix for all these problems you keep having?

I is for digital + analog
D is for digital only (no analog)

I'm not entirely sure, just quickly been googling honestly, but this says it'll do dual link DVI, meaning up to 2560x1600 60hz, and the monitor seems to only have DVI whatever inputs

    970 can do 2560x1600 @ 60hz  with a DL cable

as long as it looks like that, doesn't matter if it has analog pins or not, it's a LCD so it's digital

not really a good deal but not a bad one, it's something if you really wanted WQXGA, but not really an instant sell (you can get a 1440p IPS one for 250$ on Amazon)

the colour seems to be good however, but it'll probably be off these numbers by quite a bit considering it's old enough to be vista certified, and it has CCFL backlighting, might be dim too.

another annoying thing is to use these WQXGA monitors, you need a DVI-D DL cable and GPU, or a expensive active adapter if you don't have a DVI-D DL GPU
probably kijiji, since I found one there too (same city)

Macs were actually a strong point of the quarter.

I do wish Apple would offer more affordable MacBook Pros, but the current 15-inch model isn't aimed at the same market as the XPS.  It really is aimed at the pro crowd - the sort who might edit 4K videos in the field or work on a CAD project while they're on a business trip.  It's generally worth the money if you make a living from your laptop.  The issue is that there isn't an option for people who just want a desktop replacement and don't mind buying a slower CPU or a consumer GPU.

Apple never pitched the iPhone XR as a "low-cost" iPhone, by the way -- it's just lower cost compared to the iPhone X and XS.  Its more affordable options are the iPhone 7 and 8.

themctipers reacted to LAwLz in Clicking "Check for Updates" in Windows 10 Makes You Download "Preview" Patches - Says Microsoft
In a recent blog post from Microsoft, we get an interesting insight in how updates are delivered to Windows 10 users.

At Microsoft, they have different tiers of updates.
B releases are the regular monthly updates, also known as "patch Tuesday". The second Tuesday at 10:00 am pacific time Microsoft pushes out a collection of security and feature updates to Windows user. This is the same model they have used for a very long time and it is fairly well know.

What is new however, is that now they also have "C" and "D" updates.
C and D updates are "preview releases" which gets released the firth and fourth week of the month respectively.
What may come as a shock to some people, is that if you click on the "check for update" button in Windows 10, Microsoft classifies you as a user who "seeks out" updates, and will push the preview C and D updates to your computer.

This is why, for example, only people who manually clicked on "Check for updates" got the 1809 update which deleted files on their discs. According to Microsoft, those users who manually checked for updates were "seeking out preview updates" and got pushed a preview update.

Here is the quote from the blog in question:

I am not sure about everyone else, but I have often clicked "check for updates" just to make sure I got the latest updates installed. I had no idea clicking on that button could potentially download preview versions of updates that hasn't been rolled out yet. If I knew that, I wouldn't click it.

themctipers reacted to Commodus in Google officially ended support for Android 4.0 ICS
Well, the truth is that the "Android is open!  Open open open!" shouting was really more of a marketing line than a practical philosophy. The goal was ultimately to cater to vendors wanting an alternative to Windows Mobile/Phone, not to mention to pander to the Anything But Apple crowd.  As I like to put it: Android is open to manufacturers, open to carriers, closed to you.

This isn't even to say that Android is bad (it's dandy), just that it's not really the open platform Google claimed it was.

We need a distros and tutorials that will make learning intuitive for first time Linux users instead of looking like an IT certification courses for sever adminstrators. I mean why should any none techkies be forced to learn about display servers, linux file structures, file permissions and user groups, ip routing tables, as well as configuring bootloaders to use a freaking computer? They sound like issues a system admin would be concern with instead of average end users.

You don't do this as first time Windows user or Mac user but if you decide to go hardcore and use distros like Gentoo and Arch, that's what you will be dealing with.
