  1. http://www.businessinsider.com/iceland-has-made-it-illegal-to-pay-women-less-than-men-2018-1?IR=T

Okay, I feel like I've got to say that this is getting pretty much ridiculous. THIS ISN'T A WAY TO GO IF YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE EQUALITY.

Forcing employers to pay women equally through fines is not a good solution at all. It's actually more like admitting that women are inferior employees, and it's making the issue even worse in the long-term.

I'm sure no normal employer looks at the possible candidates to hire and says, "oh, I'll just hire the guy instead of the girl since he has a penis between his legs and I'll pay him more because of that". He doesn't want to pay more to anyone because from his perspective, it would be best if everyone worked for him free of charge.

No! Employers calculate the cost and risks that come with employing people, if they determine that hiring a man is a safer bet for them, then let them freely do it as it's a free market! They don't "hate" women and they don't think they're inferior, they just pay the most to whoever they think is the best match for the position they're offering.

And if this seems like a good idea to someone, then ask yourself this: why didn't the goverment of Iceland introduce a law that requires mine owners to employ equal amount of men and women? Since both genders are "equal", mines should have an equal amount of male and female workers, right?

Giving special rights to one of the groups means that there is no equality anymore because one of the parties got special treatment. And this is wrong.

The way to go to achieve equality is not to make it illegal to pay people unequally based on gender???????????????????????????????????????????

  2. So apparently my TV has a steam link app. Why did I buy a steam link?

  3. GPU OC is more stable with new power strip and I don't get any voltage spikes to 1.55 anymore. I guess cheap power strips are not meant to power PCs.

But you're definitely right about avoiding cheap power strips. I wonder how many people out there with unstable overclocks was just having inadequate power strips like me.

I don't think it was dirty power as much as it was the strip being unable to handle that much load which made the PSU act erratically to compensate. Sometimes my bottom intake fan wouldn't even power up.

It definitely is. I thought it was the wiring in my place. I just moved and was having the same issues. I bought a new power strip to use with my new t.v. and decided to swap it out. All my previous stability issues just poofed away.

  6. Games are so much smoother after going from a 6600 to a 6700. I can finally play overwatch at 100% resolution scale and not have dips to 100 fps. I also don't get stuttering anymore in Warframe when there are a lot of effects going on from different Warframes. I5s are garbage

It's fucking unreal how much better my games run. It's like I bought a new GPU.

  7. So yesterday I assembled a rig that I recommended to a friend that features Ryzen R5 1600, MSI GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LED RAM 3000MHz & MSI B350 Gaming Plus motherboard.

Sadly, the A-XMP feature doesn't work with the RAM yet, but the BIOS is from the beginning of April and the latest one is from July which includes AGESA 10.0.0.6. I'll update it today to see whether the RAM can work at 2933MHz, I'll be mad if it doesn't... :|

P.S. Yesterday was the first time I held a Ryzen CPU in my hands, and I gotta tell you guys that the stock Ryzen cooler (Wraith Spire) is f*cking amazing for a stock cooler, it's completely incomparable to what Intel ships with their CPUs (well, most of them ;)), it's well-made, beefy and really good looking.

Gonna take some pictures of the finished build today ^_^ It's a sexy little rig inside a Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5 kept in a black & red theme.

Yes. Never heard that expression? It doesn't necessarily have religious connotations. It just basically means he's doing a good deed or service. This is important info and yet most news media aren't covering it. Sad that we have to rely on comedians to stay informed.

  12. Wondering whether should I put my card up on sale for miners to buy... An R9 Fury mines faster than most cards on the market atm due to its compute power, considering that a used RX 480 is more expensive here in Poland than a used GTX 980Ti by around 50$, I could make a lot of profit because estimated price of my card would be around 520$ (Note that in October 2016 I paid for the card 385$ brand-new from the store), while a used RX 480 costs 470$ and a used 980Ti costs 415$...

Theoretically, I could wait using my iGPU for Vega and then make a decision on what card to buy.

    1. ivan134

      ivan134

Thinking of doing the same, but closer to when Vega releases. The problem is the rumor of low availability for Vega at launch. I'm also pretty sure miners will want Vega too.

  15. So I just lent some money to my good friend so he can afford a better RX 580 model that I recommended him.

Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 8GB, he was originally going to buy an 8GB Pulse model that I told him is decent for his budget, but when I actually researched a little and saw the difference in cooling between the Pulse and the Nitro+, I just had to help him out a little:

    sapphire-pulse-5-100722577-large.jpg

The difference is huge, the Sapphire Pulse card despite good looks and a very cheap price (compared to other 580s here) will not allow for OC or silent operation judging by the cooler.

    -----

I'm very excited about this since I'm his "PC guy", he currently runs an old i7-870 paired with some ASUS motherboard and I will OC the CPU to around 4,3/4,4GHz (max what his motherboard allows without instability) and see whether such an old i7 bottlenecks the RX 580 at 2560x1080p.

(I suppose it won't be a bottleneck but you never know for sure as it depends on the application)

With that being said... Would anyone care to see the results, is it even worth posting?

  16. Apparently RX 480's can be flashed to RX 580's. It's the R9 290->390's all over again. xD AMD, I know you don't have the finances to come up with completely new GPU's every generation, but you need to do more than what you've done with in the past. Perhaps write the vBIOS for the new cards in such a way that they won't work in the old cards? Compatibility check?

Oh, right. I forgot Techpowerup had them.

  18. So the time has come. I finally started getting annoyed by the biggest bottleneck in my system at the moment - my monitor.

I've been using a high-end, but ancient Samsung T240HD display (1920x1200, 16:10, TN) since 2008, it's been great as 1200p is a higher resolution than 1080p but the time for an upgrade has come... Gonna start gathering money - estimated time of purchase is in around 2 months from now.

Now I'm wondering, I've got a few options... Since I'm not a hardcore FPS gamer, I've got no need for 144Hz so I prefer to buy a monitor with a better panel and colour reproduction as well as a higher resolution. I want FreeSync though, my OC'd R9 Fury will handle 1440p easily so that's what I'd like.

    Options (all 27" with FreeSync):

    367$ - iiyama G-Master GB2783QSU Silver Crow - 1440p, TN, 75Hz, 1ms

    349$ - iiyama ProLite X2788QS-B1, 1440p, IPS, 75Hz, 5ms

    499$ - AOC Agon AG271QX, 1440p, TN, 144Hz, 1ms

I'm wondering now, whether I should just get the cheapest IPS 5ms panel since I'm not playing games such as CS:GO, should I get the cheaper TN one and choose 1ms reaction time or should I spend more and get the AOC one that's 144Hz? It's not IPS though...

There's also an Ultrawide LG 29UM68-P which is a 21:9 IPS FreeSync panel that's 29" 60Hz and it's the cheapest of them all (322$) but I'm not entirely sold on the Ultrawide aspect ratio for gaming and everyday's usage.

My GPU isn't an issue, an R9 Fury is a very capable 1440p card and I won't even be sacrificing much of visual eye-candy because I know how to tweak game settings properly...

Any thoughts anyone? Your input would be greatly appreciated ^_^

  19. Over 97% of the world's climate scientists agree climate change is real and man made, but we have a congressional hearing going on now where 3 of the 4 testifying witnesses are climate change deniers. The dumbing down of America is in full swing.
