  1. I upgraded my system yesterday from a 4790k and Maximus VII Formula to an 8700k (and of course Dominator Platinum DDR4 @ 3200MHz). Everything was normal afterwards. No problems whatsoever. I reused my AIO (Corsair H100i V2), temperatures were normal (around 60-63c all cores under 100% load from Cinebench). I played basically the entire night. I shut off my computer and went to bed. I wake up this morning. LEDs from the motherboard are flashing and changing colours (Maximus X Formula has RGB lights all over it). I press the power switch. Nothing. Again. Nothing. I look to the I/O panel. The Bios flash button is not lit up (normally is green), but the RGB lights are working. However, although not lit, the clear CMOS I/O button does appear to have an effect, since pressing it causes the motherboard RGB lights to briefly shut off, before going back on again. It didn't seem to solve anything though. I removed my new RAM, one by one. Did nothing. I removed my 1080 Ti. Still nothing. I then made sure that the 24-pin and 8-pin CPU connectors and cables made adequate contact. Sure. Once again, did nothing. So, I am now wondering about the power supply. I had to RMA it around 4 months ago (in March), due to random shutdowns. The RMA took at least two weeks, which I don't have time for (I'm moving to Europe in mid August) and bringing my PC with me. It seems that AX860is have issues with failure rates. However, everything seemed fine last night. I had no shutdowns or anything of the kind. The self-power test for the power supply failed. The fans did not even spin nor did the red or green LEDs activate to say whether it failed or passed the test. All it would make was a faint click with each push of it. However, I had all of my cables connected to it when I tested, so that could be why. The last thing I did last night after shutting my PC off was removing the power cable and putting a US/Canada to EU cable in place of it on the power supply, to see if the PSU end of it fit. It fit perfectly. The PC was turned off at this point. Is this simply a coincidence? Could it also be something with the motherboard (hopefully not fatal)? I had no indicators yesterday or whilst gaming the entire night that anything strange was going on. I could check again with the CPU 8-pin, since it is in an awkward location and theoretically could come loose or not make adequate-enough contact with the connector. The 24-pin, though, seems completely fine and sturdily placed.
  2. There are no sweatshops in the EU, but I guess that is off-topic. I want to talk 'crap.' How bad is the FE cooler? I knew about the potential throttling problems when I bought it. I thought the reports were full of shit. Well, I guess not. Is it more the fan profile is crap and ultra conservative, or is it more on the side that Nvidia shipped an inferior cooler? I would not think it any worse than the NVTTM design in the reference 980 Ti and Titan X. Could Nvidia change the default fan curve in the future? I think they have made changes before in drivers with cards in the past.

  5. What is so worrying about it if it is probably because of Futuremark's crappy software problems? Do you mean I should not worry about it?
  6. Alright, so I set an automatic custom profile on MSI Afterburner. Now it will run at 80% fan speed when 80c is hit - which does not appear to ever happen. On the Firestrike Ultra stress test, the highest temperature I attained was 73c. So, no thermal throttling, and I ended up actually passing the test, with 97.9% fps stability. The room temperature in here is also less than ideal. Over 22c at the moment. However, the boost clocks (Using Afterburner OSD) were still not all that stable. In a few occasions I observed a minimum clock of 1709 MHz, which is below Nvidia spec. Should I chalk this one up to just bad optimisation on 3Dmark's part? I will test other applications too. I did not really do any work, just had Afterburner set a profile automatically. Edit: Also, how do I edit my signature? I cannot remember for the life of me...
  7. Is the cooler no worse than the 980 Ti or Titan X then? So it is just the fan profile? I really do not like the aftermarket options that are available, and its too late now.
  8. Except the 1080's die size is very small. Only 314mm2 which is significantly smaller than the 980s, and almost half the size of 980 Ti's and Titan X's GM200 GPU.
  9. So apparently the Founders Edition is a shitty cooler? I think it is fine really. But, then again, I do not want to doubt a 700$ purchase lol. Is the main problem the cooler, or simply the default profile?
  10. Wow. This thread has really gotten big. Yes, I ran Witcher 3 for a half an hour or so. I did begin to observe some throttling. Which is obviously concerning. Anyway, I really like the NVTTM cooler design, hence why I chose the Founders Edition (Oh god, I hate the butchered grammar in that). I am not a fan of overclocking. I'm too stubborn, and I literally have an OCD attack because I like everything in my system 'standardised' if it makes any sense. How can I adjust the fan curve? Would this void any warranties? Also, wouldn't the fan profile get reset after doing a clean driver installation? Is Nvidia ever going to modify the Founders Edition fan profile in a future update? I do agree it is far too conservative.
  11. I was running 3Dmark's new stress test feature, and I didn't pass. I'm running a GTX 1080 Founders Edition and a 4790k. The stress tests seem to be really unstable. It is the only application I've tested that thermal throttles my graphics card. Using MSI Afterburner to track the stress test, the core clock is literally all over the place. It is up and down and all around. Very erratic, but also concerning. As aforementioned, it is the only game or test I ran that even remotely causes my 1080 to throttle or behave in this way. Over at the Firestrike discussion, I was told that it must be my own fault, and my system is overheating. Well, I highly doubt this. 3Dmark often has these types of problems. Not exactly the most 'trustworthy' programme out there. Besides, it was the only application I had that caused my 1080 to throttle or otherwise behave inconsistently. Whilst several benchmarks/stress tests/games lowered the boost clock a bit when approaching over 80c in temperature, the clocks never went below 1759 MHz at the maximum. This is still over 20 MHz higher than Nvidia's set boost clock for the 1080 of 1734 MHz. In all cases besides 3Dmark's shitey stress tests, the turbo speeds were usually at least 1800 MHz - even at full load and 82c in a room with a less-than-ideal ambient of 23c. I ran Furmark (At 1440p and 8x MSAA) in a room with an ambient of 23c, and my 1080 did not throttle during the two 10-minute runs I did. Even at 82c, my 1080 was consistent in it's clock speeds and did not drop below 1823 MHz, which is well above the rated Nvidia turbo spec (Which is 1734 MHz). I also ran Unigine Heaven, and did two full loops. The max temperature my graphics card hit was actually 84c, but the fan upped itself a little bit to lower the temperature. The core clock did not fall below 1785 MHz, and generally speaking stayed around 1810 MHz the majority of the time. I also tested in Rise of the Tomb Raider - using completely maxed settings at 1440p (Including 4x SSAA). I observed it with MSI Afterburner's OSD, and did not see any thermal throttling whatsoever. I then loaded a save and ran around a bit in the Geothermal Valley, which is probably the most demanding area of the game, and the lowest core clock I saw was 1759 MHz - which is still above Nvidia's guaranteed boost clock of 1734 MHz. Should I take Firestrike's stress tests seriously? (I know 'serious' is kind of a funny word for 3Dmark in general.) Or should I instead believe what the other tests, games, and benchmarks are reporting?
  12. Both drives? I have three drives. I am not putting it on the SSD. Besides, is it fine to go with recommended size?
  13. Back when I was on Windows 7 I changed my paging file a bit. Originally, it was on my SSD, and that is undoubtedly not good, so I moved it over to one of my HDDs. Anyway, I have 16GB of Ram and 16384 MB of virtual memory allocated to my HDD, for all drives. Is this too much for Windows 10? Should I just allow Windows to set the recommended size automatically? It says the 'recommended' is around 2936 MB maximum.
  14. The only option involving the rear I/O is for the digital spdif signal. I enabled it and set it to default just to be sure, but it still did not allow the rear ports to pick up the impedance selection from the software.
  15. I have. The rear audio ports work, they just do not prompt the SupremeFX software to detect impedance or allow me to set it manually.
