  1. System seems a bit more stable for now... I also turned overclock down to 4ghz Will update with screenshots if anything happens Side note: Any idea why is the "show in folder" function of Chrome downloads not working? I click it after I download something and nothing happens.
  2. It is set to ACHI. My friend helped me overclock... using CPU-Z I appear to be at 4.3 ghz at the moment Oh and I just rebooted and it seems like my graphics drivers didn't load or something... reverted to 600x800 resolution and had to reboot again... I don't have any other sata cables but I can try swapping the port.
  3. I did get the "Windows failed to start" screen a couple of times in my first few installation attempts (and if I selected "Start windows normally" then it would boot without problems and continue the windows installation... but then after that it never booted properly). So after cleaning and formatting the SSD in the command prompt thing I tried installing again and it went through the installation (and several reboots) without issue. I guess after I installed about 137 updates, I got the problems.
  4. Hi, I recently bought a 120gb Kingston V300 for my system (originally had just some Seagate 1TB drive) and attempted to install a fresh copy of Windows 7. Now that I've got everything installed with latest windows updates, it seems like I can't properly reboot my computer. Like.. I can Shut down just fine, but when I turn it back on again, it either: 1) Just restarts after the windows splash screen 2) Gives me a blue screen of death 3) Gives me a black screen with only my cursor, then after a few seconds I get an error saying "Interactive logon process initialization has failed".. etc 4) Boots successfully, but gives me the message saying "Windows did not shut down successfully... etc" These 4 seem to happen randomly, and if I wait long enough then eventually I can boot into windows (like right now). The same thing also happens if I Restart. *Everything worked absolutely fine before I got the SSD. Other details... - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. - Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 2x4gb - Radeon 6850 - Asus P8Z68VPro - i5 2500k Honestly I have no idea. Anyone got a clue? Thanks in advance
  5. It seems like such a basic task yet there doesn't seem to be anything that lets me neatly highlight the text that's already in the PDF that I'm annotating. All it gives me is this hand draw marker thing and of course on my laptop I'm not going to use that. I tried googling it and perhaps my search skills are subpar but I can't find anything.
  6. Samsung Galaxy S -> Galaxy SII -> Galaxy SIII lol :D
  7. +1 on this. Thinkpad all the way! All my CS friends have one.
  8. 11 is too small, and 15+ inch laptops are too heavy (even the ultrabooks). 13.3-14 is perfect for me.
  9. i5 series 9 7 seconds :D Or 1 second from sleep
  10. Don't buy a chinese clone. Get a nexus 4 or a xiaomi phone.
  11. I used a Note 10.1 for my entire second year and I can say that it's pretty good for school. But it really depends on what kind of courses you take. For most of my courses, we had PDF slides uploaded before lectures so I would just download them onto my tablet and use the LectureNotes app to annotate them. If you're dealing with a class where you have to write down a lot, then you should honestly just get a laptop/ultrabook. You may consider the option of getting a bluetooth keyboard with your Note 10.1, but personally I feel it's not that convenient to carry around a separate keyboard for my tablet. Also, text integration is not very optimized in LectureNotes, my primary note-taking app. You could use those android word-processing apps, but they are a bit slow and are nowhere near as efficient as, say, Microsoft Office. I wouldn't suggest a touch cover for your surface RT. It's horrible to type on. Get the type cover (although I've heard it is not even that much better). So what kind of note taking are we looking at? Lots of diagrams/technical drawing, annotating pre-made notes, or writing everything that the prof says?
  12. When looking for roms you'll have to try them out for yourself. I know it sounds like a pain and time consuming, but the fact is that each rom has different features and you'll have to find the one that has what you want. Virtually all roms can overclock if you flash the proper kernel. For example I use a galaxy s3 and there are many 'mainstream' roms with threads containing 6 million + views. They are good and fast roms for sure, but I am nitpicky and there are certain things that I don't like about them. Therefore I use something less popular but is stable and suits my needs. Short answer, there is no 'best rom'. ;) PS. Look for something with a good amount of views and good feedback, but it doesn't have to be the most popular!
  13. if you dont have a keycap remover try getting your hands on a large paperclip. you can make a pretty good one your own from that :P
  14. I've used flux for about a year now, and although I never really had any eye strain to begin with, it does feel comfortable late at night :)
