Problem was a faulty motherboard. RMA fixed the issue (actually there was another problem with the new motherboard), but I ended up using my old motherboard again anyways. So it's probably a faulty motherboard, possibly CPU.

I checked this, it was not the issue. I think we may be getting somewhere, however, because running Intel XTU shows that thermal throttling is at a constant 100%. I've tried disabling thermal throttling in the BIOS to no avail. My temps are well below normal, at 100% load I'm getting 25C, but that's with all cores only at 800 Mhz.

Yesterday, I was running Windows 10 with this CPU, it was fine. After my mobo change and a clean wipe, I am running into problems.

Let me check, I know I set the plan to Maximum performance. CAM is telling me on idle I am 15%-25% CPU usage. I've been using this CPU for 7 months, no issues until I switched.

I swear, I've tried everything. I just changed my case and motherboard (from a Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO to a MAXIMUS VII IMPACT), and after a clean reinstall of Windows 10 (which I was running before), the CPU is locked at 8x multiplier so it only runs at 800 Mhz (it is a 4690k). I've run mutliple stress tests, and the CPU goes to 100% but at 800Mhz. I've reset CMOS, BIOS settings, tried downgrading the BIOS to older versions, but nothing gives at this point and I am ready to give up. Full system specs: 4690k + Corsair H100i GTX 16GB 1866Mhz Corsair Dominator Asus MAXIMUS VII IMPACT Crucial 256GB SSD WD Blue 1TB Corsair 250D Anyone?

I have a custom built PC with Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit, that has an ASUS Maximus VII Hero Motherboard (I suspect something with this). On my old PC, if I plugged in Ethernet, it would quickly detect the network and get me online. On my new one, Ethernet seems to be a bit random in working. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. It "does not" work because it will just give me the yellow warning sign and say that there is no Internet connection. Running a diagnosis always returns an "invalid IP address configuration" but I am hesitant to believe this based on these examples: I have a direct Ethernet connection to my router. If I plug in the cable before I boot up my PC, it usually works. If I plug in the cable afterwards, it usually won't work. I was at a friend's house, and I had brought a Cisco switch because he only had one connection in his room. I plugged in the connection to the switch, and then our PCs. His worked, mine did not. I tried a bunch of stuff to try and fix it, yet none worked. I ended up using Internet Sharing (WiFi -> Ethernet) on my MacBook Pro Mid-2012 Yosemite to get Internet, and it worked on the first go, no issues (I was using reboots to try and fix the issue). A few months ago, I had trouble with my home network Ethernet line (I was getting the yellow warning sign). After reading a lot of forums, I tried doing a static discharge by powering down, disconnecting the power cable, and pressing the power button, then starting up again. This solution worked, but confused me. Now, when I have problems, this solution seems to only work some of the time. Two days ago, I was again using my MacBook to tether because my main line was unavailable. It worked fine after 1 or 2 reboots. Last night, I tried to tether again, and nothing worked. I tried the static discharge, reboots, etc. Can someone please help me diagnose this?? I know I am using the latest BIOS and LAN drivers.

CPU has higher clock speed than normal
TheSabreSlicer replied to TheSabreSlicer's topic in Troubleshooting
Just checked BIOS. Apparently my Maximus VII Hero automatically increased the Turbo Frequency, which OCed my CPU to 4.6 Ghz. Thanks everyone.- 6 replies

Hey everybody, I'm having a weird issue with my CPU, which is an i5-4690k. In Control Panel on Windows 7, it says it is clocked at 3.5Ghz, which is Intel's advertised clock speed. However, in NZXT Cam, CPU-Z, and Open Hardware Monitor, it says my clockspeed is around 4.5 Ghz. I just built this PC a few weeks ago, and have not had time to OC it yet. I get normal temps with my Corsair H60. Idle is 30C and almost full load is around 60C. Any ideas? Did something happen during binning and I got a mislabeled chip? Or are the sensors faulty?

Heatsink will not fit onto motherboard

Got it. Already looking on eBay for the part. Thanks for helping, I totally forgot about that part until you mentioned it. -

I do seem to remember something like this. Basically an adapter? I threw it out, though, and since then refrain from throwing random things away. -

I thought as much. Anyway to get the proprietary cooler? Technically yes and no, I got the right cooler for my CPU socket but it doesn't fit. -

It did not. I got a Rosewill RCX-Z300. EDIT: I don't know if you can see in the photo, but the bracket is pretty securely glued or bolted onto the heatsink. It doesn't look like it would come off to exchange it.
