  1. Go to Nvidia control manage 3d settings. Enable DSR to 4.00x and set smoothness to 0. Run Windows desktop at 2732 x 1536p. Run Minecraft at 2732 x 1536p. This should result in a sharper image and no aliasing since the resolution is in a factor of 4 from the native. The UI will be cramped though.
  2. TVs marked as HD Ready can accept a higher than native resolution signal and downsample it to fit on the screen. It was fairly common to have HD ready TVs that were 720p or 768p screens that would accept a 1080p signal then downscale it down to native. Downsampling an image that isn't a factor of 4 results in the image being aliased or fuzzy. The TV is not 1080p, it merely accepts 1080p signal and downsamples it.
  3. Windows has the software I need or want without having to look for alternatives or dual boot into Windows. When I want a program I don't have to worry if they have a mac version. I don't have to worry if my OS has a driver for any new hardware I pick up.
  4. I think the only thing that happens with malwarebytes is that they prompt you to pay a couple of times when the free premium runs out. I was meaning more towards the bing bars, Mcafee trials, and home page changes a lot of free software is bundled with to add advertising revenue from the included optional software. It is what most people call bloatware or similar.
  5. GTX 690. Dual gpu card of SLI 680s.
  6. Overclocking is nice but if the funds are between that and a 970 I would go with one of the mid tier locked I5s and a H97 motherboard.
  7. I wouldn't say overpriced, I would say poorly designed. Think of it this way, of course they have to charge so much when they blow most of the cost on making a 300-400 dollar equivalent case. As we all know the LEDs and case is what gives you the most fps. /s I ripped apart my friends Alienware after he upgraded. It has a daughter board just for a LED and fan controller. The also put mid tier GPUs with I7s and 16+ GBs of ram. They are horribly horribly designed for gaming but all the useless shit they sink money into and labour gives you near what they charge for it.
  8. Yeah, the onboard sound, SATA controller, NIC, USB hub, PCIe lanes, etc are all powered.
  9. The only vibration problems I've ever had was needing to tighten screws holding hard drives in cages a bit more and cheap side panels not sitting flush in the grooves. I don't see it hurting but it is also one of those things where you can always order more of them / add them if you find you need them. Fans don't take but 5 mins to reinstall.
  10. Not everyone plays games. Also 2011v3 doesn't have integrated graphics. Nor do half of the Xeons out there. GPUs can do more than display pictures on screen for a bit now. Some productivity tasks that are highly parallel can be ran much more effectively over a gpu. Even a igpu.
  11. I would also consider looking at the power brick and seeing if it even draws more than 75w.
  12. Sounds like they are advertising the speed of a SATA II connector and not the actual drive. Here are some more realistic benchmarks for similar drives. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/green-terabyte-1tb,2078-4.html
  13. I don't think colleges should be associated with sport programs in the first place.
  14. My statement wasn't really a question. It was facetious to point out the issue of the high end cpu and low/mid tier GPUs in "Gaming" branded company produced desktops. Mobile is different. For current mobile products you go I7 to get a quad core and even then you have to double check if it is a quad core I7. There may be a few exceptions that aren't grouped under the I7 CPUs but can't think of any at the moment. The mobile Haswell I5s are dual cores with hyperthreading. http://ark.intel.com/products/family/75024/4th-Generation-Intel-Core-i5-Processors#@Mobile
  15. Their selection is pretty bad. For 400 dollars you can get started though. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mWw2nQ Need a FM2+ motherboard $50-$70 and a 430w or better psu $25-$50. A copy of Windows too, $90.

  17. My question would be why do so many companies pair an I7 and an X50 or X60 Nvidia gpu... It is like they don't know what I5s are.
  18. CPU has a blank price on pc part picker. Would have to manually figure in about ~100 dollars for it.
  19. I don't think that is an aftermarket cooler on the cpu in that picture. I looks like the AMD sticker was peeled off a stock fan. Edit:broken link Though that is still really good for $300.
  20. The A10-5800k won't dual graphics with the R5 240. The A8 7600 is also a new architecture and probably be equal or better to the older A10 even if it is a lower tier. (CPU side comparison, gpu side would be meaningless because the A8 in dual graphics would do a lot better than any comparison between the two on die GPUs would show) https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A8-7600+APU&id=2311 http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A10-5800K+APU
  21. Bitdefender free and Malwarebytes are my usual recommendations for an antivirus. ZoneAlarm has a free firewall to help stop things before they even get on your computer. It isn't the smartest firewall but works well, just make sure to uncheck all the offers companies bundle with free software no matter what you download.
  22. From what I see it is a 4 core 4 thread Xeon. So more akin to a I5 since it lacks hyperthreading. Depending on what you want to get out of your right it could be a good value.
  23. Chrome is eating a GB for me with 5 tabs open and 2 extensions. It isn't light on memory.
