  1. Hi all, it's been a while since I was here. I decided to take my old MoBo out of its box after 2 years since disassembling and selling my old PC and put together a new one. I got the MetallicGear Neo Air case which has 2 RGB fans (4pin, 12V) and a control button on the front panel. The front panel has an RGB connector which is meant to go into the RGB port of the motherboard, and a male and a female 4pin connector for daisy chaining RGB fans, like this one. My motherboard doesn't have an RGB header, so I thought I'd buy and external controller. But due to my lack of knowledge of RGB connectors and not looking closely enough I got this one which has 3pin 5V connectors. I'm guessing there's no way to make it work? What adapter/controller do I need in order to be able to use the RGB controller on the front panel of my case? I should say I'm not keen to do any custom wiring/modding.

  3. I built my custom water cooling loop, involving a CPU and a GPU block, back in August 2015. I put a dye and I did the first cleaning in January 2016. I saw some gray bits inside the blocks and assumed they were from the dye, since it was a UV dye that mysteriously "disappeared" two days later. So I didn't put any next time. I flushed all rads, cleaned both blocks inside out, changed tubing (now using PETG), put distilled water and a silver coil. I haven't found any time to clean it since though... I haven't been using the PC much since then (mostly working from the laptop, no time for games/movies), but temps are always low even on full load. Q1: Are there any tell-tale signs that I NEED to clean it, what's the worst that can happen? Q2: Since redoing the hard tubing is a pain and takes time, is it safe to rinse it and reuse it when I finally get to change the water?

  5. Thanks! I will rinse them (I guess boiling the distilled water this time wouldn't hurt either). The blocks are clean, though.
  6. Greetings! It's time for the first maintenance cleaning of my first loop. So I drained it and got rid of the tubing and the fittings, since I'll be redesigning it (I decided to switch from PVC to PETG tubing as it looks nicer and hopefully I won't have such a hard time tightening the fittings). I disassembled the CPU and GPU water blocks and cleaned them with lemon+vinegar+water solution (as well as some brasso for the CPU block). The CPU block had some greenish/greyish residue that I suspect may have been the UV dye I put that "disappeared" (turned transparent) after a few days. Last but not least I flushed some tap water through the rads and then rinsed them with (cold) distilled water. I left their ports open for a day until there was no water dripping upon shaking them and then closed them to prevent any dirt from going inside. This was about 2 weeks ago; they've been sitting with no water since then. My question is, can bacteria start growing if they were not completely dry when I closed them. Should I clean them again and what should I use (vinegar, boiling water, etc)?
  7. No, it was just pure distilled water, silver coil and the two Mayhem's dyes... And I had only used tap water+vinegar for the initial rinse of the rads but I rinsed them with distilled water in the end.
  8. It happened less than a full day after I put the dye. It's not like the PC is in front of the (glass) door, facing it, but I guess the Sun does hit it in the morning. I can try to put a bit more dye, not use the CCFLs, and cover it during the day to see if this will happen. Hmmm given that I only put 5-6 drops of dye I wouldn't expect clumps but I guess it's better to flush it sooner than what I had planned for the first maintenance.
  9. Did you flush the loop immediately, if not - did it cause trouble? I'm just reluctant to drain it yet again, just got it working. Temps are fine but if there's any chance that all of a sudden, in the blink of an eye the loop will get clogged up and destroy the pump or any other component, I'll do it. I thought I could also get some UV LEDs instead of CCFLs and add some more UV dye to see if it will still fade.
  10. The joy from my new build didn't last very long. Today I noticed the loop sounded different - as if there there were a lot of tiny bubbles going around and I could see the water in the reservoir being slightly... foamy, as if it's boiling (it is cold though). I thought it's nothing but now that the sun set, I turned the UV CCFLs on and noticed that the bright UV effect that was there last night is completely gone. The water looks transparent too even though I added a bit of purple dye and it was purplish last night. What could have happened?? I read that some UV lights emitting in the far UV range (UVC) may be causing the UV dye to break down but I think it wasn't confirmed. Also aren't CCFLs supposed to emit in the near UV range (UVA)? I have Revoltec Ultra-bright UV light that emits in the visible as well, looks purple, which leads me to believe the majority of its emission would be in the near UV. I think I won't be adding more dye until I figure out what is going on and I'll keep the CCFLs off, but do I need to flush the loop?? Edit: I forgot to mention that there are indeed tiny bubbles on the wall of the tubing wherever it bends in such a way as to be horizonat, they weren't there last night.
  11. Well, after a looong and not problem-free build, here it is!! Thanks to all here who helped me. I'm happy with the way she (or he, still not sure) looks in general, although I'm not super pleased the crossed tubings at the bottom... I'll rethink the design for when I drain it in a few months, maybe use solid tubing too. Hardware is ASUS X99-PRO, Intel Core i7 5930K (EK waterblock), EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ (Alphacool waterblock), Corsair Vengeance 16GB, Alphacool VPP655, Alphacool Lighttower res, EK CoolStream XE radiators all packaged in Phanteks Enthoo Primo! The dye is Mayhems UV Clear BLue + Deep Purple
  12. Glad your GPU wasn't damaged! I decided not to open the GPU and clean because 1) I\m sure very little (if any) water go there and more importantly 2) I only had pure distilled water - still haven't put the dye yet. I convinced myself that those bits of residue were indeed black paint that came off as I was unscrewing the fittings, so I'm pretty sure none of it has gone/will go into the loop. So I just filled it up and ran it - it's all good! I'm really happy, just need to drain the bubbles left, leave it for a day and then the moment of truth will come - is all of my hardware still working
  13. Yes, I noticed some of the paint coming off and I regretted getting painted fittings... Once I have everything connected again, I will simply disconnect the inlet of the reservoir and put that tubing in a bucket, the keep filling water into the reservoir -> and run it for a minute of so to flush the whole loop; then connect the output of the last block back to the reservoir inlet and fill it up. Should do the job.
