so.. i'm watching this car video on youtube..

to check if all their cylinders are going, they individually unplug each spark plug and hear the engine's tone change...

made me realise something: for as long as i've known.. our yacht has sounded like that.. may have explained its rather lackluster power and was a bit "tappety" in the lower rev range.. (which for a yacht is ~600RPM...)

came to the additional realisation, in the 20 years we had that yacht, we never once changed the spark plugs, and we never did any engine electrics testing. not that an 80s scania engine had much electrics to it..

we HAD a yacht.. family bought it as a fixer-upper sometime in the 90s, the first year the only thing that didnt break was basicly the hull itself..

and 20 years later we flipped it on, it was in rather bad shape, so it was time to get rid of it.

basic list of issues with a 25+ year old yacht:

    - the engines are REALLY moody

    - even with a fresh battery, you cannot start them anymore just on the starter battery

    - on-board electronics may be spotty or outright broken

    - dirt in the water system

    - the hull showing its age (on polyester yachts also known as "its rotting")

    - lack of spare parts

    - a cassette player in your entertainment system
