Kamil reacted to Hawx in Tim Sweeney says Microsoft is lying about some supposed Win 10 advantages, calls UWP "woefully inadequate"
> When Delicieuxz makes a new Windows 10 news thread just so he can copy and paste the same debunked argument over and over again
As someone that's been working with UWP on a daily basis for a few months, it's actually a pretty nice platform for developers. Throw in something like Template 10 and you can spit out UWP apps with relative ease. The problem with UWP isn't the platform itself, but rather microsoft's distribution methods. An easier way to use UWP via third party installers and Microsoft cleaning up the store would go a long way with adoption.
If Microsoft can improve UWP to be on par with Win32 for end user ease-of-use, I can totally see it becoming the primary development target within 10 years.

Kamil reacted to MageTank in Rumor ! - Intel to Launch 12c/24t skylake-x cpu's to crush AMD RYZEN
It won't matter if, knowing Intel, they price it at $2000. Fighting AMD on the higher end won't hurt them, as they aimed completely at the current low-medium consumer markets. This won't crush AMD at all, unless they price it within the same galaxy this time around. I just don't see Intel doing that.

Kamil reacted to ionbasa in Google announces the first SHA-1 collision (no don't panic just yet)
A hash is analogous to a fingerprint. Each unique file has a different fingerprint. Its how we verify a file hasn't been tampered with, modified, or damaged.
Google made two different files have the same fingerprint.

Kamil reacted to elfensky in Sony files Patent for a Device looking similar to Nintendo Switch.
I mean it gives me hope for a Vita 2, but that patent looks hella ugly.
I'm thinking it's probably a licensed controller of some kind for Android/iOS that will allow non-Sony smartphones to run PS Now and Remote Play.

They're not. This is to fix problems in the supply chain. From the article itself:

It's amazingly easy to get netflix rips anyway I doubt it's not encrypted but it wouldn't really make a difference.

Tell Google to stop telling me to "Experience a faster way to browse" whenever I go to their website on a non-Chromium based browser.
Or maybe they've finally stopped doing that.

Kamil reacted to Bouzoo in Samsung Galaxy S8 Announced?
I don't see an issue with 16:9 on phones. Considering we can get fingerprint readers w/o having a physical button, and that it's width that could increase and not height, I don't see 16:10 happening anytime soon.

Kamil reacted to Wyzzy Moon in Fitbit Acquires Vector Watch
Pebble wasn't really a competitor. And these guys also just made watches. So basically they're buying out all 3th party smartwatch makers so either there making a watch themselfs or they are just stupid and are forcing us to buy an Apple or an Android watch. Because I am not going to buy a fitbit to replace my pebble if it dies.
-
Kamil reacted to Trixanity in Fitbit Acquires Vector Watch
You mean buying out the competition and dismantling everything and then proceed to sell off the majority of what you bought because you only wanted a few bits and pieces from the company anyway whilst killing off anything resembling what you acquired?
Sounds about right.
Either Fitbit is very serious and want to make a great 'classic' design smartwatch with a fairly rich ecosystem like Pebble's that has a long battery life and a screen that actually works outdoors or they just wanted some patents and software stuff to advance their fitness trackers a little bit and anyone that wants to see the lovechild of a Fitbit/Pebble/Vector product can fuck off.

As I've seen @LinusTech and Luke comment in videos that VR use appears to be stagnating.
I just wanted to point out something. I just took the STEAM January 2017 hardware survey this morning.
I have a HTC Vive.
However, unless the device is connected and powered on the Steam Survey simply does not detect that a VR device is connected. Therefore any news stories based on the Steam survey stats - on VR are completely distorted and wrong.
It should be a user question like the microphone question you have to checkbox. Since the VR device is a USB powered device and these are not always connected for obvious reasons (I store mine in a protected foam lined box to protect from dust).
Just wanted to bring this up. As no doubt there will be comments in the news and on WAN show about low uptake (Luke has commented about this) but
the Steam survey is fundamentally flawed getting data on VR usage and uptake or sales (!)

Kamil reacted to Lurick in CRTC declares broadband internet access a basic service
Don't worry, soon the FCC could be dismantled completely because "Most of the original motivations for having an FCC have gone away. Telecommunications network providers and ISPs are rarely, if ever, monopolies.", so you won't need to worry about net neutrality getting in anybodies either if that happens. (Quote is from a telecom advisor to Trump, so I really don't think he'll listen to public backlash on the issue)

bigneo, yes or no question. Have you stopped beating your wife?
What's that? Not answering the question? Then I guess you have something to hide!
You are extremely naive if you don't think prosecutors will deliberately set you up in situations similar to the one above. I strongly recommend you watch this video:
Or let's go at it this way. Do you want to give me your house keys and passwords to all your devices and accounts? Oh, you don't want to? Why not? You must have something to hide if you don't want me to have access to all your personal data.
So please, live by what you preach and give me your password. You can even send it to me in a PM if you for some reason want to hide it from everyone but me (I don't see why you would want to hide it from other people... Unless you had something to hide!)

Kamil reacted to LAwLz in US government breaks the 5th amendment
Watch the video I linked earlier in the thread. You know that phrase "Anything you say may be used against you in a court of law."? That part of the Miranda warning is not there just for fun. A prosecutor will use any means possible to make you look guilty, including asking questions which will make you look guilty regardless of how you answer.
But outside of that, the idea that you should be responsible to help prove that you are innocent or guilty is completely insane.
The entire justice system is based on the assumption that you are innocent until proven guilty. What this means is that unless the police can prove that you did something, then you are innocent. If they can't prove that you are guilty by themselves, and requires a confession from you, then they should not be arresting you to begin with.
If I accused you of illegally downloading a movie, then I should have some evidence to support that claim before I arrest you and seize your computer. I shouldn't just walk into your house and go "I demand that you show me the movie you illegally downloaded. If you don't show it to me then I will arrest you".
It is not your responsibility to prove that you are innocent, because it is assumed that you are without you doing anything.
