Recently, my old video card in my computer stopped working, and after some troubleshooting, RMA’d it to MSI. I’ve been running integrated graphics and have been exiled to my old Macbook
MSI was very kind, and upgraded me to a R9 380 4GB! It arrived today, but… I haven’t been able to get it to work.
Here’s what’s going on, when I plug in the power from my modular power supply, the graphics card lights up, and my motherboard gets stuck on code 97, “Console Output devices connect (ex. Monitor is lighted).” Oddly, if I only plug in one of the two 6-pin power plugs into the video card, I get past 97, and go to A0, “IDE initialization is started”.
This happens in multiple PCI slots. Computer POSTs and works great if I use onboard video. I’ve reseated the 380 about a few dozen times, because I really miss my video games
Would it be the BIOS version? My motherboard is currently flashed to F11, when F18 is the latest non-beta. I don’t want to flash just to upgrade, but if the upgrade will make my computer work, then that’d be awesome.
Would it be the power supply? I’m halfway into my warranty, but I don’t know how to test this. It could be the modular power cable, which would be a cheap replacement, but I kind of want to rule that out, as my partner’s 650 Ti worked fine in my system during the pre-RMA checklist.
Thank you so much for the help!
