  1. Good, I'm tired of region limitation. I tried, I subscribed to several services, including Crunchy Roll, and I kept getting denied access to certain animes because I live in the NL. So be it, I tried the biggest French anime legal distribution. Same story. VPN is not a solution for me because: - Why should I pay extra while I am already paying premium service ? - Those websites do not allow the use of VPN, and you risk to be banned immediately once they catch you.
  2. I don't really understand all the technical stuff going behind this, but isn't it good for consoles ? I mean, unless they release a PS5 +, the PS5 will be stuck on its hardware for the complete longevity of the console. At first, because of the dedicated hardware and all the stuff you guys are talking about, yeah a PS5 might run better than a PC (of the same price or even high end). But to compensate its lack of optimization, the PC will still have more and more raw power one year after another. I guess this is why you can still see very nice games running on a PS4, and those games are even nicer on PC imo, if you take RDR2 for instance.
  3. I would recommend it to someone who does not mind updating his phone by himself, because depending on your version, the latest update dispatch is not homogeneous. That being said, I got my G6 for more than 2 years now, with the same battery, and I would never change it for any mid tier. The screen is good, the cameras are good (you can also download some GCAM apk that some nice dudes released especially for the G6), the audio is simply fantastic if you are into it, and performance wise, for my use it's perfectly fine (I don't really use my phone to game). Some users have reported issues like poor battery life or moisture alert in the charging port, and I don't know if it is a niche issue or not. I live in Rotterdam, the past autumn and current winter are very wet, I bike and never had any issue with the moisture alert. Boot loop is gone since V20, it was a major issue with the V10 ( and I had it ). In the end I think if you scratch a bit you will always find people with issues with their phones.
  4. I got a G6 for more than 2 years, and to be honest, I don't see myself replacing it ... yet. I mean, ok, update wise, LG fucked up big time because most users had to manually do the update and flash the roms, that is a fair point. On the other hand, the G6 is bringing a lot of interesting and useful features while remaining notch free with a decent body ratio. If I had a samsung S8/S9, I would have had the same opinion though.
  5. Personally, I've never wanted to use one of these, but all my friends and family are using them. If anyone knows a replacement without loosing all your contacts, I'm all ears.
  6. It's just a classic thermal runaway from a lithium battery. Maybe the battery was not manufactured well, or the user was a bit hard on fast recharge (if this phone has it, I don't know), but this is not something unusual. Apple can do everything to monitor the battery behavior and regulate it, lithium batteries are simple ticking bombs. I work in the marine industry, all the battery storage are considered as Hazardous areas, and the bulkheads around them are heavily reinforced. It's not for nothing, we consider them as bombs. Also, removing the charger before the explosion is not a clue. Thermal runaway is a process that once launched, is very hard to impossible to stop.
  7. Can be handy for some application, but for the current smartphone user, what's the big deal ?
  8. If it pushes the industry to stop with notches, be my guest.
  9. The non-return point has been crossed in 2015, confirmed by both the GIEC, and a consortium of scientists which wrote a report called the State of Climate. Each GIEC report shows that instead of reducing our CO2 emissions they grow. On this point we are fucked. My point was (and I think we talk about the same thing) that renewable energies are, by their own nature, not "drivable"as a traditional power plant is, whether it is powered by coal or nuclear. You always have a ratio between the calculated/average load, and the anticipated peak loads of a country electrical consumption, to you avoid load shedding and black outs. This ratio is considerably superior with renewable energies because a windmill or a solar panel will always have a bad yearly efficiency, simply because they are intermittent source of power supply. Consequently, battery storage facilities need to be built, and their costs are far more superior than building nuclear plants for the same amount of power. That being said, we are talking about this with the idea that we will keep our way of living. I will defend tooth and nail renewable energy if we leave our financial system based on hyper consumption. But if we keep our way of life, then renewable energies are not an option.
  10. As always, the debate on nuclear power is driven by emotions while being a very technical subject. I saw a lot of mentions about nuclear waste. Which one ? So there are maybe several types of waste ? Maybe some of them are already recycled ? What is a Becquerel or a Sieverts ? Why Chernobyl incident can not happen again ? Do you realize that if we do stop everything we are doing, every production facility, the CO2 concentration will need at least 10 000 years to reach the level as before the industrial era ? That it also means we can only "damage control" the effect of global warming and we crossed the limit point years ago ? Do you also think that with renewable energies, if you country has a need of, let's say 1TWh, you will have 1TWh of renewable energy plants ? Isn't there some kind of ratio here ? Don't you need also storage facilities in case wind/sun are absent ?
  11. The guy literally never believed in the game success nor the studio itself and now he's trying to get some money back ? It's just a douche move imo.
  12. Ahem, if you pay Distrokid for 20e/year, they upload your music on all platforms without taking any cut on your royalties. It was almost free already.
  13. I think it goes beyond a rack full of blue rays. I don't know many people who likes to watch several the same movies nowadays. Attention span has became so low that even a movie like Blade Runner 2049 has been a commercial disaster because of its length (though it was not the case for Interstellar...) Even if a movie length is not the problem, still, movies and music are like a nuggets box to many: it is literally consumption, you listen/watch one time, and then you move forward.
  14. I think some people in this topic really need to slow their pace and chill a bit. This law postulate was not bad at all: one of the aim is to ensure that news papers from different EU countries get some money from articles they posted on their respective websites, which then might be then linked and distributed across the entire internet by different users/readers. Let's face it, how many people actually read the article once they've seen the head line ? If you don't go on the website then there is no profit. Paywall do not really works since one subscriber can copy paste the entire article so everybody can read it. Now, the final result ? As always, it's like the entire laws have been pre-written by lobbies. But it's not like it is something that only happens in the EU (end of Net Neutrality in the US, rings a bell ?). What can we do as citizens ? The same as US citizens could have done to fight internet providers companies: nothing. The complete cynicism and paradox is that we (at least in France) were told that this law is supposed to fight GAFA's dominance (Google, Amazon, Facebook ...), but guess what ? People are massively using Google news, and newspapers make a shit load of profit to be visible on it. So imo, the only way to frighten the lobbies in EU is that Google completely shuts down its News in the EU. I have no proofs, but my guess is that the revenues coming from the ads on newspapers websites will drastically decrease, and they will have to step back.
  15. Fortunately you can buy a very very slim case for the LG G6, I don't feel it at all, but I agree, I don't get the glass back ... Losing the second screen was annoying AF, so I'm using Elvie launcher now. Works well to replace the second screen.
  16. There are different wireless standards which reduce the loss of quality, like aptx.
  17. And that is why I got myself a LG G6 SK version. 3.5mm jack and Quad DAC. My only grief is the unremovable battery. By the time I wanted to buy a V20 it was completely out of stock or horribly overpriced (like 550 euros). I owned also a LG V10 but got the bootloop problem (hardware related, fixed by changing the MB though).
  18. http://www2.cnrs.fr/en/3033.htm It is the most recent article. Coming from other article: https://www.generation-nt.com/francais-developpent-batterie-sodium-ion-sel-actualite-1922160.html Interesting points: "...(l'autre avantage de) la batterie sodium-ion est sa durée de vie : elle a atteint 2000 cycles de charge et de décharge" "... ( the other advantage of) the Na iom battery is its life span: it reaches 2000 cycles of charge/discharge cycle" The article does not mention it, but I hope they were talking about 100%-0% cycle, which is, in average, 500 cycles for a standard lithium battery. They noticed a problem at the early development of this kind of battery though: "Toutefois, si le lithium est aujourd'hui préféré dans les batteries, c'est qu'il permet d'atteindre une plus grande tension électrique ainsi qu'une plus forte densité énergétique ( 200 Wh/kg contre 90 Wh/kg pour la batterie au sel présenté)." "However, if the lithium is mostly used, it is because it has a better energy density (200Wh/kg against 90Wh/kg for the Na ion). Hopefully, with all the knowledge we gathered about batteries, and serious investiment, it could be a significant step forward in energy storage imo.
  19. From my perspective (which is very very limited heh), we keep coal because if politician speaks positively about nuclear, then he is basically doomed and can forget his political career, even/especially in France. Nuclear power is a debate of opinion, frequently driven by emotions and heart feelings, whereas it is a very, very technical subject. Just ask an anti nuclear militant what is a Becquerel, Sieverts, how many types of nuclear waste exist, do they all have the same longevity, which are those we chose to bury, are they all solid, liquid, or gas ? They'll just reply "DUH nuclear is dangerous, and a power plant is ticking nuclear bomb".
  20. Honestly if the political route is to keep growth based economy then yes, absolutely. I am completely ok with renewable energies as long as we decide to slow our lifestyle pace in terms of production and consumption.
  21. It is actually the same problem with electricity storage. A French company which funds where raised by the state released a very competitive Na ion battery. Same capacity than lithium, better charging cycles performances, no thermal runaway, easier to recycle, same form factor. The problem ? Well, salt is quite easy to find, and many countries rely on the lithium industry. I can try to find an english article about it if interested.
  22. To me it is, because this statement turns a big blind eye of electricity production implications. It is true that you can not breath exhaust gas out of an electric car, or even out of your cooking appliances, but it does not mean it does not exist, it is simply relocated elsewhere. This is the same reasoning when building windmills, dams and solar panels. Sure, there is no direct carbon emission at the production site, but (and I don't this to be some kind of "whataboutism") you cannot occult the sand needed for concrete, the silicium/lithium/steel, transportation, the inherent problems it causes to the environment itself: birds/fish path being, deconstruction/allocation of natural habitat for the solar panels, fish paths in the rivers and so on.
  23. I should have only quoted this: "The point people like to ignore about electrical vehicles" My point is that this matter is far beyond energies being clean. Power availability is what makes our days "modern", and it has a price. Then "He said every time a source that does not pollute replaces a coal source it gets cleaner. That is actually a fact you can't ignore." But renewable energies have an environmental cost. And that is also why I talked about power availability: if you want to keep things the way they are running, you need to produce extra renewable energies, and they are totally not carbon free, as well as storage and even water dams. I'm not saying that we should keep coal though. Just that in my opinion, if we really want to keep the way we live, produce and consume while reducing carbon emission, then nuclear is the answer, especially when we tend to replace every oil consumers with electrical ones.
