    Have you tried other headphones from the same device or the same headphones from another device with the same music?
     
    It could be caused by debris (such as hair) touching the drivers. Headphones do not require or benefit from break-in.

    You could just use a cheap keyboard for those games that have a numpad or buy an external numpad.

    They are generally device specific, otherwise there would be a lot of interference from other devices.
