I would imagine a thin glove with a rubber coat would work good. That way you still have good dexterity, and you can grip. I would think that using latex could make your hands worse.

They aren't, but in your case, they kinda are. Let me explain.

Imagine channels as motorways with only one lane. If there are 2 people on motorway/channel 1 while being extremely close to each-other, than they may interfere and one of the two drivers can't go as fast as they would like.
If all your nearest neighbors were to use motorway/channel 2, than it would cause instability.

This is why your app suggests 1, 6 and 14. These appear to be quite unused by your neighbors. Which means that you can drive as FAST as you want!

Different channels come into play if you are in an area with other radio's broadcasting near your router. You don't want to be on the same broadcast channel as another access point, so if you're in something like an apartment building or in an area that's close to other people with routers, changing the channel will help with latency and dropping signal issues.

I would honestly recommend picking a channel that isn't any where near the channel of other routers in the area (Wifi analyzer comes in handy for determining the channel of other broadcasts) In my experience, picking a higher number has usually benefited me, but most routers are on "auto" which will pick a random channel.

Play with the channel settings and see if it solves your issues.

Open cmd.exe (or the equivalent in your Operating System) Use ipconfig (or the equivalent in your well you know what) Search for "Standard Gateway" and copy the number after it or write it down. Go to your preferred web browser, and paste the gateway in it where you would normally put a website link. Search in the settings for channel, and put them on auto or on whatever number you prefer. If you're on a windows OS, hold the windows key on your keyboard and hit R.

This will bring up the "Run" program. In the text field type "CMD" and hit enter, this will bring up command prompt.

    In command prompt type: ipconfig

This will display your current IP configuration. Scroll down until you find "Default gateway", (Should be something like 192.168.1.1, or 10.0.0.1) that will be the IP address you enter into the address bar of a browser.

the username and password is usually admin/admin or admin/password for most routers.

There's no such thing as future proofing.

If you want to spend the money on an insane 6 to 8 core intel processor, no ones stopping you. But gaming and most applications utilize fewer, faster cores. The i7 4790k @ 4.0Ghz stock is an insane processor (I have it personally) and it doesn't cost a ridiculous amount. You can even get an i5 and overclock the shit out of it, saving even more money and not losing very much.

I'd say go for the 4790k and use the rest of the money on a GPU, since more expensive GPU's make more of a difference than more cores on a processor.

    @Spev
    Cable internet works like this..

Coax comes to the house, and into a box outside(demark location) and is generally just a spot to ground the cable to there is no modem outside the house.

after that it goes inside usually the basement or attic, then splits out to the rooms for outlets, these outlets then have a jumper(short piece of coax) that go from the outlet to the piece of equipment, IE the modem. the modem they had was most likely a wireless modem. which is why it had coax on it.

you can technically use another modem but it will not work unless the provider activates it on their network and you will have to pay for an extra internet package. you cant just plug up two modems and get two internet lines

so if you have say 70$ internet package you get one modem.... if you want to activate another modem that's another 70$ a month. and generally they wont even do it.

You can move the modem to another coax location in the home. but it might not have the right power of signal and may degrade your service. you can not just go to Walmart buy another modem and presto get another Internets

all bandwidth is on one coax cable that leaves the home, tv.voip, internet all travel on this one wire.

and the cable has nothing to do with the speed, its the DOCSIS technology that controls that, IE the protocol the provider uses.
    @KTFO|SGTmoody
DOCSIS is not a grade method it is just a technology such as IPv4 IPv6 or HTTP. it is how the data is transmitted over the cable..IE DOCSIS( Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification.)

The cable is just there so that the radio frequencies have something to travel on.

Here's a quick question, what the hell are you doing on the macbook for it to max it's CPU and start cooking itself?

Even though your Mac hasn't crashed due to overheating, you're definitely losing performance with throttling and you're definitely going to stress your system out by keeping it at such high temperatures for so long.

I would de-dust that thing so it can get some better airflow and keep an eye on those temps. If you keep that thing cooking for long periods of time, that laptop is DEFINITELY going to die a horrible death.

Use MSconfig to see what's starting up (services and programs).  Disable the ones you don't want or use.   But just be mindful if you start disabling services that you don't recognize.  It might have affects you didn't intend.  If that happens, just remember (or look at the notes you took as you were doing it) which ones you disabled and re-enable them.

Don't reinstall Windows just for that.  That's cutting of the nose to spite the face.

You'll learn something if you optimize your own system in other ways.

Yes. Not sure though, if it's just writing to cache or to a combination of cache and SSD. The performance increase you see, however is caused by the cache.

I guess you have RAPID mode on? If so take these results with a pinch of salt. You know its not correct when your 5GB/s is far outwith the capability's of SATA 3.0 bottlenecks.

Raid 1 is not a replacement for doing backups.
It is for redundancy, not backups.

Just buy a separate storage drive and set windows to auto backup your data every few days or weeks.
There is no point in doing raid, just keep it simple and you will have less issues.

For me it looks like some sort of RAM issue. You can check the HDD by unplugging it and turning the PC on. It should at least boot up into BIOS. If you have two memory sticks you can unplug one and try to turn it on. You can swapping memory slots. Also try different PSU. If that doesn't help it's probably CPU or MOBO. TBH I don't know how to test GPU. You can always try different one, but I think it'll be hard to get.

Something that may help is that a switch is not the same as a coupler. If you wanted to get something like a powered coupler, you'll want to get a Hub instead. A networking switch processes and forwards data along the line, so if there is a problem with one of the switches then you'll have problems along the line. You can test the individual switches by setting up 2 machines with static IPs and hooking them up to that particular switch. If you can exchange data between the machines, chances are the switch is good. This specific method won't test the cables that act as the interconnect between the switches, but I imagine you could figure that step out.

Here's a wikipedia link if you want to read more about switches or hubs.

I forgot to mention, individual switched ports can go bad too on a switch, so you should try moving to a different port on the switch as well.

Could you guys stop generalising? It's never as simple as "X brand beats Y brand", you have to evaluate specific products and needs, and mind every facet, else you're lacking honesty.
