  1. Ideally in a package lighter than my existing MacBook pro
  2. 4K budget. looking for 2TB NvMe + 15" + screen and good Graphics.
  3. Hi, I am a developer and I do most of my work out on the road (I travel up to 20 days a month). I currently have a MacBook pro 2012 but it struggles when I'm running developer stacks (lamp or containers) locally. I develop for both the web and for iOS so need to be able to at Least VM mac OS. Does anyone know of a good quality hi core count (6-10) laptop of good build quality and portability ?? Ideally I would also like to run Qubes OS on it.
  4. do you have links and spec's for the server
  5. Update !!! I finally purchased a samsung 950 NVMe SSD in 512 GB. Super fast Since then the 960 is now available in uptown 2TB.
  6. Hi, I'd appreciate some advice on a build to replace several machines that form a small business network / development lab. 2 osx machines 1 running OS X Server (DNS, AFP Shares, iTunes sharing, Web Server 3 websites, xCode Server, Owncloud) 1 running plex serving iPads video (24x7) 1 dell 2850 running FreeBSD, own cloud, development Web server (runs 40 hrs / week 1 dell 5100 running freeness (24x7) 1 iMac running OS X and multiple VM's (windows 10 , Ubuntu 14 LAMP stack) (40 hrs week) 1 NZXT H440 with custom build, X99 Deluxe, 5930 i7, 16GB ram (DDR4), evga GTX 980 an SSD and several laptop drives in Raid 0 (Currently Gaming machine) Current total data size is 12 TB, excluding back-ups. My day job i develop for the web using symfony 2 and javascript, php, jquery etc over multiple customer lamp stacks . I also develop for iPhone / iPad using xCode Current problems: the iMAC is a little under powered to run the VM's it has 32GB or ram but the disk is very slow and could use replacing for SSD and not enough Core's to run the VM's at realistic speeds The Dell server disk subsystem is incredibly noisy and low capacity probably at the end of it's life ? No overall consistent easy way to manage all of the different servers when working locally or remotely No way to run continuos integration testing of web development Possible routes forward: 1 - Replace the disk subsystems in the dell and iMac for hi capacity (might not be possible in the Dell 2850) 2 - Build a rack mounted dual Xeon Server with lots of core's and run all current devices on it as VM's 3 - Upgrade the NZXT CPU and hard drive system 4 - Move it all to AWS or some other cloud service Current network backbone is Cisco Switch 26 port 1GB want to get some link Aggregation going XEON Build I'd like to do Dual 26xxV3 CPU's with a boat load of memory (DDR4), PCIE NVMe SSD and a storage array. Need some advice on power supplies and mother board, graphics and cases to use thinking a 4U rack case would work. Ideas advice welcomed
  7. sounds like unRaid might be the best approach given the need to run VM's and NAS together
  8. Are there any large screen monitors ?? 60" of more I guess i don't want to buy smart TV as I have my apple TV
  9. I normally buy above what i need so it lasts. my current Screen a pioneer elite plasma i purchased as a 720p long before anything above 480p was available, so i don't mind purchasing 4k if it will work out most of my peripherals are either hdmi or component Video
  10. Hi, I don't watch regular or Cable TV. I do use my Large Screen plasma TV to stream netflix via an apple TV and have an Xbox 360 Also.. I'm considering upgrading my large screen TV and using it as a monitor for a PC or Mac with bluetooth peripherals. Just looking for help and advice as to whether to get a large monitor or a TV. I have a mix of computers, MAC's, Windows 10 PC's, Freebsd Servers and apple phones/ iPads. Also I have independent sound system cable of 5.1 surround sound. If anyone has any recommendations they would be appreciated.
  11. Guess I should also have mentioned the h440 splitter is dumb and connected by molex power only. I'm thinking of using the Asus fan controller extender see how that works as it will keep the front of the motherboard clean
  12. Thanks for the response. I'm new to OC at present the system is stock . once I'm overlocking I'm assuming I will need the fans to ramp as the system maxes out so I want to have them setup correctly before starting OC. So i can avoid frying my system... The Case Fans are connected to the H440 splitter not the MOBO fan headers at the moment.
  13. Hi, I just built this system and I am looking for some advice as to the best strategy for controlling fans etc.' Build is: NZXT H440, Corsair AX860i, Asus X99 Deluxe, Corsair DDR4 (16GB), EVGA GTX 980 (super clocked), Crucial MX100 (512GB), Kraken X61. All the case fans are currently connected to the H440 onboard splitter. The Kraken is connected to the CPU Fan Header and via USB The Powersupply is connected to the corsair link USB dongle. OS is Windows 8.1 x64. I have downloaded NZXT CAM software/ Corsair Link S/W. When I look at the OC options the only FAN RPM I can see is the Kraken. So my Question is what is the best way for me to control the fans, should i connect them to the Asus fan module instead of the H440 case splitter ? Also what is the best software to use to control everything ? Also i have an extra temp sensor should i connect it to the graphics card and if so exactly where o the card would be best ? Thanks for any advice and or references for further reading.
  14. Hi, I just purchased an X99. It has an m.2 slot on the mobo and a pcie daughter board for adding m.2 SSD. The specs say upto 32GB/sec as opposed to the 6GB/sec sata. But i don't see any options to buy pcie SSD's for this MOBO. how do i get an SSD that is m.2 pcie or at least sata Express through the SATA express connectors on board.
