In that case your plan sounds good. USB isn't the most stable connection for such usages but you should be fine with it.

You only need a 650W PSU for gtx 660's in SLI. Well ignore what others are saying, because if you're going with SLI, then stick with Nvidia. If you're never going to get more than one card. Get a 7870XT.

yes, am3+ doesnt have the side brackets to increase cooling and to add more on to the motherboard, there is no difference with the socket or cooling bracket
