I got the 750d. It has tons of space.

How much you want to spend?

Custom water cooling is very expensive compared to closed loop setups (or fans)

One thing to consider, is that peripherals (keyboard, mouse, headset, speakers, monitor) really add to the price.

+1 on the Full Tower. For my first build I went with the big brother Corsair 750D. Do I need it? No, but I wanted something that is large and easy to work in. This appears to be a case that will never go out of style (at least anytime soon), so I can use it for future builds and/or modifications such as custom water cooling.

I just purchased the Razer Blackwidow Chroma Stealth. Razer brand "orange" switches which are supposedly very similar to Cherry browns.

But unless you get stuff used then it's quite expensive to do a modular system.

Okay so many dorm mates and my suite mate have the Mamba. And I got myself the DeathAdder.

I only got the DeathAdder because I tried the Mamba and it feels so amazing, it's got the perfect shape, for my taste at least. However, it's kind of heavier than the DeathAdder, probably because of the battery, but it has a cool dock to place it and it's got an amazing battery life. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the awesome rubberized sides the DeathAdder has (it's... different in a worse way) so there's that.

If you have a laptop or like to use your mice on your bed or whatever, it's a great choice. If you don't need the flexibility to use it "anywhere", then I don't see a point to get it.

I myself had to make this choice a couple of weeks ago and I understood that I will never use my mouse+keyboard to play any game anywhere but on my table.
So I don't need an amazing wireless mouse to play games, therefore I have a $15 wireless mouse to use it when I need the wireless feature.

There's also the price difference... I'd say the Mamba isn't worth it, unless you really would like/need the wireless feature. If it's gonna sit all day long on your table, no meaning IMO.

whiplash4 got a reaction from ComradeHX in Moved to PC from Console
I just wanted to say that I have converted from the awful world of console gaming and have switched to the dark (but oh so awesome) world of PC gaming!

I have played consoles my entire life and PC sparingly (never had a gaming PC until now). I bought BF4 a year ago on xbox360 and since I had the 4GB crappy walmart xbox it was unable to allow for me to play the game because you can only download game content to xbox official hard drive. This meant spending hundreds on a freaking game. Here is how much it would have cost me:

    $70 for game
    $50 for premium
    $60 for Xbox live annually
$110 for xbox official hard drive (believe this is lowest cost)

TOTAL: $290 for a freaking game *SCAM*

So I boycotted console gaming, returned the game, cancelled xbox live and will not pay a single penny to them. I have saved up for a year (using some of the money I would have spent on console) and now have a fantastic gaming rig. Yes Microsoft still taxes me with windows, but i get it for $15 b/c i am a student.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my story of why i switched to PC. I know i will never turn back to the money pit of console gaming. People ask "are you xbox or playstation" and I can now laugh with pride and say "neither"!

you can run a single gtx 970 @ 60hz on 1440p, a 4k however you'd need to at least SLI the 970s to get same frame rate, with that said, there goes dual 4k monitor out the window.

i just bought 1440p. i will personally wait out many years so that 4k multi-monitor is available in 60-120 fps before i will consider upgrade.

I'd go for the 970 as it has a much lower power consumption, and less heat output.
Benchmarks for both the cards are very close, with the 970 being slightly ahead.

The people telling you to get a 4k monitor don't realize it's not worth it if you only have one 970. If you're planning on going SLI then sure yea get a 4K monitor. Otherwise, get a 1440p monitor. a million pixel difference is a large difference and you can easily tell how much better it looks from 1080 to 1440

I think you'd need at least a 32"-42" monitor to be able to even see text and that easily at 4K. Otherwise it's just too small.

You are so wrong. In 1440p there are only 2x more pixels than in 1080p, not much, right? Nope.
Sure, there are 8x more pixels in 4K if compared to 1080p but I think 100% more pixels is something noticeable, don't you? Fo'shur.

Then I guess the difference in pixels between 1440p and 4k is nothing, just twice as many pixels, right? Wrong again.

Sure, the higher the resolution the better but you have to spend so much on your rig to be able to play at 4K with reasonable FPS and quality that it's definitely not worth it. Not for now, at least.

If you can, put a 1080p and a 1440p monitor side by side and you'll understand how much better 1440p is, and you don't need 980 SLI to play it at 60FPS.

All I'm saying is that it is worth upgrading to 1440p but I'd wait for 120/144Hz 1440p screens with lower prices next year.

Well, again, it's up to you. You'll see similar performance, with the likelihood of having plenty of room to overclock, on a lower power consumption card.
