  1. Yes I mean cable braided, as like the Cablemod cables.
  2. Do any high end QUIET PSU's come with braided cables? I am looking for the most silent PSU for a test bench set-up that ideally comes with braided cables. Obviously could get a Cablemod set, but that would add a chunk to the cost. Seems like that might be the only option as I'm not seeing any PSUs that do their own... although I know the upcoming Corsair SF600 Platinum will, but wasn't necessarily going with an SFX PSU... not that it would be a problem. Spec is a 2700X, 32GB RAM, x2 SSDs, x1 M.2. Only running a 1060 6GB at the moment, but will be upgrading to a 2080 in a couple of months, or even 2080Ti GPU perhaps, if the benchmarks convince me... I know that seems like it might be quite powerhungry so 600W may be pushing it... the 2080 apparently tops out at 280W. So, failing any PSU that comes with braided cables, what would be quietest option for the above set-up? I can then look at sourcing a cable set elsewhere.
  3. Ah, OK... it seems something was going on with Windows where it was installing an Nvidia driver every time after I rebooted (after using DDU several times). I noticed this in the Windows Update history. I ran DDU again in Safe Mode, didn't restart and then installed the Nvdia drivers while still in Safe Mode. Now it works. Goddamn what a faff!!
  4. This is undoubtably the most annoying and infuriating thing that has ever happened to me in 20+ years of PC building. I change my monitor (that's it) and suddenly I cannot install Nvidia drivers with my 1060 6GB. My resolution went all screwy and so I uninstalled them, and I have also run DDU in Safe Mode, tried numerous versions of the Nvidia drivers, the main installer package and via GeForce Experience but each and every time it says it isn't compatible with this version of Windows (10 x64). I JUST HAD THEM INSTALLED FFS SO HOW CAN THEY NOW BE INCOMPATIBLE!!??? I don't know what more I can do other than re-install Windows at this point, which is going to be a real ball ache!!
  5. The 32GK850G is a very good VA panel by most accounts, and does not suffer badly from many of the issues that others have in the past, overshoot, trailing etc. For a monitor bigger than the standard 27", it's probably one of the better options out there... although we'd all like 4K HDR and high refresh at this size and above of course. We'll be waiting until 2019 for that though, and when it comes it will be insanely priced.
  6. The Phanteks Glacier might be worth looking at. It's certainly a bit different, and shouldn't be any issues with reliability. It will work with DDC or D5.
  7. UV fluid tends to wear off after a while, so while it certainly has a really nice initial 'pop', within a few weeks that fades significantly as the UV component breaks down. I have used a few EK UV coolants with this result, but I'd be interested to hear of any others that might have more lifespan.
  8. Even if you manage silent cooling with an AIO on your CPU, it will then leave your GPU as the loudest component in your system under load... and not insiginifcantly so. If you can afford it, check out the EK-MLC Phoenix range. Rather expensive, but it would get you where you want to be, assuming they have the required blocks for your components and you can fit it all in your case. It's either that or a custom loop, but that's going to be the most expensive and complex option. All said and done though, when it comes to CPU, a top end Dark Rock or Noctua is going to be more silent than any AIO, and perform just as well for the most part.
  9. It is a stupid error on Lian Li's part. I just don't get the logic. It would be one thing if they were marketing this as a watercooling case, but they're not. All the pics on their product page show air cooled builds, and the majority of the marketing blurb suggests this is its intended purpose. Yet you can't use top end air coolers! It's nuts. The Dynamic is the same (they share a chassis), but at least that case seems to be aimed more at watercooling enthusiasts. The Air doesn't look as good and falls down in the one area it SHOULD excel. It's made even more perplexing by the fact that it does actually perform very well. The GN review highlighted the flaw with the front filter, but that's easily resolved. It goes to show that were it possible to fit a top end air cooler, the Air had the potential to be one of the best performing air cooled cases ever. The Fractal Design Meshify is a good shout... probably one of the better air cooling cases you can get right now, and looks great.
  10. There's not anything wrong with that actually. Bringing cool air from outside is perfectly fine and some would even argue a more effective means of water cooling. It's certainly not wrong. The problem more than likely is simply the fact that 120mm AIOs do not perform THAT well... they will be beat hands down by top end air coolers. A little research will tell you this. What are your ambient temps?
  11. It's really just a problem in the case I'm looking at, the NZXT H200i, which I was planning to use with the Kraken X52. It requires a USB 2.0 header, but so does the smart hub on the H200i. Annoying.
  12. As I've not come across one, I'm guessing perhaps none do, but are there ANY Z370 ITX motherboards that have dual USB 2.0 headers, or will I need to step up to a mATX board? Thanks.
  13. Having a bit of trouble deciding between these two boards... very similarly priced and broadly the same features (it would appear) although the VIII Hero is a touch cheaper. Is there one clear winner here? I know the Hero is the older board, but it's obviously compatible with my CPU and comes very highly reviewed. I will be using with an OC'd and de-lidded 7700k @ 5Ghz, so not sure if one board may be more stable than the other? Other hardware includes x3 SSD's, 32GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, Sound Blaster ZxR and 1080Ti. I don't need the extra M.2 of the Z270-A. I think the Hero may have superior on-board sound, but I as I have the ZxR that's no issue. The other aspect I couldn't find an answer to is whether ALL the fan headers on the Z270-A are PWM or not? I know they are on the VIII Hero. Is there a reason I should choose one over the other?
  14. Check out the Dark Rock 3 (non-Pro) it is literally within 1-2 degrees of the Pro version. Hard to believe looking at, given the Pro is MUCH bigger and has an extra fan, but clearly there are diminishing returns with these coolers, so the Dark Rock 3 could be best solution if the RAM height is an issue. Plus it's cheaper.
  15. I can try that... my case doesn't have a whole lot of clearance, but when I've fitted it in I will see how much room I have. I'm guessing moving the fan up won't impact cooling much, if at all?
  16. I've had this RAM for a while, purchased off a friend for a steal, so it wouldn't have been my choice exactly, but I couldn't turn it down. If I replaced with lower profile, I'd be throwing money away. Besides, it's good RAM other than the height. I know the high heatsink does nothing.
  17. No it's not pressing, small gap but a gap nonetheless. I didn't think it was a problem, but always good to get reassurance as it's not too late for me to return the cooler (it's not fitted yet). My only other option would be an AIO at this point, but that's going to be more than twice the price and only offer roughly equal performance.
  18. It fits, but it's TIGHT... less than 1mm from the RAM and the height is obviously blocking a bit of the fan. Should I be at all concerned about this from a cooling perspective? Will be using an OC'd and de-lidded 7700K.
  19. I don't know if a de-lidded 7700K @ 5Ghz @ 1.35v would be considered 'crazy' or not?
  20. Yes it seems to get solid reviews. Seems to get labeled 'mid-level', but it's only a couple degrees off the top... no RAM compatibility issues either. I don't know if the Dark Rock 3 (non-Pro version) would have an issue there or not, as that's another option perhaps.
  21. Actually... looks like the DRP3 is out due to my RAM being too tall. I have Corsair Dominator Platinum on a Z170 Asus VIII Hero... can't see it fitting. Bummer.
  22. Agree on the NH-D15... my eyes bleed looking at that thing. DRP3 actually was my first choice, then I figured it wouldn't fit in my S340 Elite, but seems it actually does according to THIS. It also has a POS mounting system... I had an old Dark Rock that was the same, and it was a real PITA to fit. Cryorig don't have this issue, which is what got me looking towards the H7 Quad Lumi which has an extra heat pipe over the standard H7, and that was already bumping uglies with the DRP3 performance wise, but at a couple dB less. Decisions, decisions!
  23. Silent Wings would be front (intake), top and rear (exhaust) with H7 as stock... or potentially a DRP3... I know that would cool a touch better, although it's a bit noisier from what I've been reading, only by a couple db though so I shouldn't be too concerned about that. Again, how all this (air cooler + fans) would compare to the X62 with the pump I don't really know. Those AER RGB fans seem pretty decent. Pump noise/air bubbles could make all the difference though.
  24. Yes, that did occur to me. I won't be moving it far or going on long journeys though, so it won't be chucked about.
