c00face got a reaction from HalfWolf in I don't enjoy gaming anymore
I find myself not enjoying playing video games anymore. It all seems so boring, same ol. I need something fresh, something new, and almost all of these games are just clones of each other.

I got through introduction with Lost Ark before calling it quits.
Starcraft 1, Starcraft 2... Played these games far too long, it's really boring. And I'm tired of people just spamming Protoss the overpowered race.
    League of Legends... just sucks.
    Overwatch... Sucks.
Elden Ring... haven't tried yet... I don't see how people can enjoy single player games without any interaction with other players.
Almost all shooting games suck and it's not what it use to be anymore.

I don't know what game to play while I'm not out and at home. I usually just watch a movie or TV show... but I've seen almost everything now. shrugs...

I ran to similar issues in the past. Your ram sticks aren't syncing properly and it's causing shut downs. It's why when you load with one, it'll boot, but when you add two, it just goes chaotic mode. It's been a while since I dealt with this problem, but to fix it, you'll need to adjust the frequency of the ram sticks. Go to your BIOS, DRAM, and adjust frequency to [AUTO]. It should automatically set to auto, if it's not, set it to auto. My belief is that when you have XMP enabled, the ram sticks aren't set to AUTO but to their max capacity to boost more performance.

If the profile is set to AUTO, adjust the frequency to a lower amount other than 3600 mhz. Keep testing it till you get the sweet spot to when your ram sticks is sync. There are some mobo settings that will void this frequency adjustment to put out more performance, you'll need to disable those like XMP profile, overclocking, gaming mode, precision boost, etc..

this is likely a driver issue. it's just an old card, and i can bet my money that nVidia doesn't care too much about their older models and making it combability with all the updates of Windows or Mac.

there's no need for an unlocked CPU and Z-motherboard if you're not going to overclock. most people don't anyways and i highly suggest just downgrading to a locked cpu and motherboard to save a lot more money. running WoW at 4k, a RTX 3080 should be sufficient. but i advise you put the money to cool the PC components instead as it can get hot.

I'll try to walk you through it.
    First download MSI Afterburner. https://www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner/graphics-cards

Before you begin, your CURVE is different from mines. The goal is to lower mV while trying to reach for your GPU frequency clock MHz. Since you're on a 3080TI, your frequency will be a lot higher than mines. If it's at 2500 MHz, adjust the curve to reach 2300 MHz or lower at a lower mV.

    1. Go to settings, User Interface, and change it to Default MSI Afterburner v3 skin - big edition

    2. Press anywhere on the MSI interface and hit CTRL+F
The Voltage/Frequency curve editor should pop-up.

    3. Adjust the Core Clock (MHz) by NEGATIVE 250 (-250). The curve should drop below your default curve.

    4. Depending where you want your Voltage to sit, you'll drag the square to where you want your GPU to try to hit the clock frequency. For example, in my case, I did 1000 mV (bottom graph) and I would drag the square to at least 1915 MHz (because my GPU default is at 2000 MHz.) Your GPU is a 3080TI, so it has a higher frequency, MHz. If it's at 2500 MHz, adjust it for 2300 and work your way down till you find stability.

Your GPU is now have a curve that will adjust itself upward till 1000mV at a frequency of 1915 MHz. You'll have lower temps and similar performance to default. Click apply, save it to a profile and bubble the "Apply overclocking at system startup." And make sure to start tick the box to start up MSI Afterburner during PC startup.

These are my settings, you can actually go lower. To 875mV. But I'm comfortable with 1000mV as I see mostly 60 degree C during intense load. And haven't seen it go higher than that.

End result should look like this:

If anything messes up, best you get is just a system restart or artifacts. Then you'll increase mV from 1000 to 1020 and keep doing this till the system is stabilized. Also, you can just reset.

You're on a TI, I would try to go higher, possibly 1950 MHz at 900 mV. If you want to drop temp down more, try bringing the mV down to 850 mV at 1900 MHz..

Thank you so much for taking your time to walk me through this. Here are my results. Was stable at 0.9mV at 1920MHz. TimeSpy score went up 400 points. Stress Test gave me my best stability score ever, and max temp hovered around 75-76 degrees, which is a 3-degree improvement for much better performance. Let me know if you think I could / should do anything else to get temps down further, but this is an improvement I'm very happy with.

EDIT: I actually didn't have my fan curve applied. With it, I'm hovering around 69-72 degrees with the same performance 🙂

Also could be that your system is running too hot and fail safe triggered. Wait half an hour and try again. Check all cables is properly latched and secure and properly seated. Check to make sure you plug in the correct cables into the correct location. Improperly connections can kill mobo and hardwares at the same time. I had this happened to me where my mobo was working fine for 8 months to a year then finally the gpu and mobo died same time. It was only then I realized I had improperly connected my GPU PCI cables.

Take your motherboard to a pc shop to have them test if it's dead or not. Sounds like a dud mobo sadly. But hard to tell unless you get it tested. Most pc shop does free motherboard testing to check if it's working or not if you live in the States.

You can try this https://visihow.com/Determine_if_Your_Motherboard_Is_Dead im not sure how effective it is to actually testing if the mobo is dead or not. I usually just take it to a shop for free and have them run a meter test.

You can get the R7 5800x for $300 on ebay. I just added to the list to make it look complete. The total cost is under $2,000. If I were you, I'll buy a better PSU, the Corsair RMx (2021) for $135.

No. Seasonic Focus model are not outstanding. There are better option for that price point, EVGA. Tomhardware did a review on the Focus model and it doesn't hold as you think it does. There's a reason why it's only worth $115. The Prime model holds up and keeps to the Seasonic name, but Focus is lackluster. You would go Seasonic over Corsair RMx? Lol. K, be my guest. Corsair RMx is top tier PSU. For $20 more, you're investing in a top tier PSU that will last you for future builds. Seasonic Focus + is not on par with the RMx model.
