Helly got a reaction from Donut417 in YouTube ads during WAN show replay
Personally, i block ads for my own mental well being. Ads drive me f*cking insane! They're annoying, the actors are annoying, their voices are annoying, everything that happens in them is meant to annoy you. So i've banned all ads from my life for a long time now. I don't watch TV anymore, when i listen to the radio i turn it off or mute it as soon as the ads start.
I use an ad blocker but for those video's that have ads in them that i can't skip i just turn off the audio and go do something else while the ad plays.

Sure, here and there i still hear/see ads sometimes, but they only remind me why i f*cking hate them in the first place. I understand they are trying to make money but imho they should do it without annoying the shit out of you. The only ads i actually remember are the ones that entertained me, made me laugh.

something else ads did is completely ruin most songs for me because they use them in the most annoying ways, and you see/hear them 100 times a day. I have a bad case of getting songs stuck in my head, so another reason to ban ads from my life as much as possible.

So calling ad blocking morally wrong is a f*cking joke and it needs to stop. Creating these annoying f*cking ads is far more morally wrong.

sorry about the rant... just adding $0.02 😛

Helly got a reaction from Needfuldoer in I have data on Win95 floppy disks I would like to access.
The problem with a replacement battery is that they are at best only a few years younger then the laptop itself. It's so old that any battery you find is likely to have the same problem.
As mentioned earlier, it is likely possible to just power it on with external power connected. If not, try removing the battery and connecting the external power. Might work.

Worst case, if you can't power it on, open it up and remove the HDD and wreck it manually with a hammer or something else, just go postal on it and the data will be unrecoverable. It's not like the laptop will be sold to anyone for actual use.

The biggest problem causing the long development time has, is and always will be the public version everyone can play. They have to make it playable which is basically “finishing” that version. Every single alpha version they create.
i have said this almost every time this bullshit comes up. No game production in history has ever been like this game.
Have my thoughts on the game changed? Absolutely, i no longer follow the development at all. I dont really care about star citizen at all anymore. The only game i care about is squadron 42. Which they never really say anything about. Thats what annoys me more then anything else right now.
This game has not, is not and never will be a scam. No one will ever convince me of that. Unless they come out themselves and straight up admit it.

I have my servers (with HW RAID) set to do a volume check every month where it checks all the data. It takes anywhere from 10 to 20 hours. It has shown an error only a few times, which was always corrected. Been years since the last one. I scheduled them just for peace of mind really, the whole bitrot thing always felt like a myth to me to be honest. Good to know the volume check helps to prevent it though, more peace of mind hehe.

i did have to set up the checks myself, so you better check it i guess

Helly reacted to LAwLz in How does a compressed 4K video still look so good?
Okay now I understand you better.

So you took a 4:4:4 video.
Transcoded it to 4:2:0 and played that, and got good playback results.
You also took the same file, and transcoded it to 4:4:4 and played that, and not only was the encoding far slower but the decode was also slower.
Everything was the same except for the avisynth filter you applied first, which changed the chroma subsampling.

    Correct?
I still think it's weird that you get such high GPU usage. Anyway, that's up to you to troubleshoot.
Sorry if I have been mean or hurtful in any way. That was not my intention. I think we both agree that the quality difference between 4:4:4 and 4:2:0 is minimal in most cases, and definitely worth the smaller file size.

haha, yeah that might be it. It is very confusing. I've been using MeGUI for years. For x264 you can set a profile (i set it to high). for x265 its called preset... which i set to medium... or is that something else entirely? Yeah seems like it, as you can set a profile with extra parameters. I didn't set the profile there. So its the default one. Can't really find which is the default, i'm guessing main.
So i guess i'll rephrase yet again. I used the same encoding settings for both versions of the file. All i changed between them was converting to 420 before presenting it to the encoder with avisynth.
This will be my last response... not really interested anymore, and completely irrelevant to the original question.

OP joined as of typing ~33mins ago. Created post ~24mins ago and has been gone since. Title = AMD or INTEL, looks like an attempt to start a flamewar topic... but maybe that's just me? Important thing is, looks like no one is biting, or everyone is on the same page which says, AMD for now? Would be a first, but stranger things have happened...... i think.

Its a dual card. If they can both fit NVME then it's running on 2 lanes which is 1.969 GB/s MAX, seems like the best explanation for it. Also if you're only using NVME, you can lose the sata cable.

Upsets no one, because it is simply NOT happening. If it happened at all it would be by adding another socket to the motherboard for the GPU. But seeing as GPU's use a lot of power it would mean another massive heatsink on the motherboard. Not to mention you'd need more RAM slots as GPU's use different RAM. The heatsink alone would block a lot of the space needed for expansion cards. Or they would have to increase the size of the motherboard.
Let's just cut to it and say that adding the graphics to the motherboard makes the board WAY to complicated, and onboard gpu's are simply not powerful enough, and they'll never be.

    I'm running 3 monitors here on a vega64. 1 4K60hz, 1 4k120hz and 1 1080p60hz. I haven't noticed any changes in noise or temps since adding the 120hz (its an LG gn950, vega64 cant run it at 144 ).

VR is an "eventually" thing for SC AFAIK. Has no priority at all.

Did you even read anything i said? There is no comparison to SC with any other game(development). If you put rockstar with GTA5 in the same position, running 3 different version instances of the game simultaneously with at least one with the least amount of bugs and somewhat playable. You would have seen at least double the development time for that game. That's what i said and that is a FACT. I know from experience. The development of SC is COMPLETELY different from any other game.

Not sure if you understand how crowd based funding works but if you want to keep getting money and selling ships in a game like SC you gotta have players be able to do something with it other then admiring it in a hanger or see it in a pretty picture or in a video. No one said anything about getting money back. If backers go away from ur game no one talks about it and no new players(backers) come to your game anymore and the money stops coming in.
Think? No i KNOW this happens. Look up the Halo MMO. 90 million dollars gone. And that's just 1 quick search. There's lots more i'm sure. You think game development companies build the games you buy in 1 try and never fail and start over? You clearly have no idea how software development works. Sometimes it IS actually far easier and better to start over then to patch old code up to new standards and ways of working which might take just as long to complete only you have thrown together code from different places now with probably a lot more bugs then when you would have started over.
Yes most game development companies do this. So many projects they started but never finished and all that time and money is just thrown away. Sure bits and pieces are used in other projects to limit the wasted time and money but most of it is gone.. never to be seen again. Want proof? Well every now and then you get a news article about a game that was canceled (former mentioned Halo MMO, Starcraft Ghost, Fable Legends, This Is Vegas... to name a few) there's undoubtedly a lot more we never hear about. Don't start about those games coming from big companies only. Of course they do, who's going to care about some indie developer canceling their game and starting over? Not news worthy so you don't hear about it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Ah no i don't think so. It's because people don't read anything other then what they want to believe and ignore everything that says otherwise no matter where it comes from. Look at the 2 people i reacted to here in this topic. Immediately say things i clearly already explained in the very message they themselves quoted.

Helly got a reaction from GDRRiley in AMD annouces RDNA2 and Zen3 dates
It's not like any AMD GPU matters or will matter for at least 2 more generations.... All they're good for is lowering the prices of the all mighty Nvidia so you can all buy those. And if they don't get lowered, you still buy them. If AMD gets close for cheaper you'll think of an excuse like features which you imagine AMD not having to still buy Nvidia. When AMD gets better you'll just say they're drivers suck and still buy Nvidia. It will take at least 2 generations of AMD to be better then Nvidia (and by better i of course mean having the fastest most expensive card on the market.), before most will even CONSIDER buying AMD. Source? This topic, and many comments under the articles on the different tech news sites.
So everyone wants competition so they can buy the cards of 1 side, for the price they want to spend on it.

And BTW the Nvidia prices ARE outrageous, ridiculous and stupid. But it's the all mighty Nvidia asking them, so it's ok. They spend all the R&D on it so they've earned it. Except you're forgetting that if no one pays it, they'll have no choice but to lower it. But you have to have the latest greatest from ur overlords at Nvidia.

Am i an AMD fanboy? Nope, i'm an Nvidia hateboy if anything. Had to many shit cards with shit drivers crashing good systems (confirmed by replacing the nvidia shit with amd cards and never crashing again) to even care about anything they do anymore.

And people claiming the overlords having such a great feature set over AMD, what was it... DLSS, raytracing support, shadow play, rtx voice, gsync. Lets go over it:
DLSS: I have never cared for AA at all. Never understood why anyone does. At first because of the performance impact, later i just bought better cards so that i had the best AA possible, higher resolutions. Still do, I don't even see aliased edges on 4K. so why do i need it? Raytracing support: Well with the new cards no longer an Nvidia exclusive so that's off ur list then.. Showdow play: Same thing here, AMD has had something similar for years now, besides, how important is this? You all content creators or streamers all of a sudden? CPU encoding is still better anyway, if you want to create some real quality content... oh right YT screws it up anyway, doesn't even matter. RTX Voice: Really? is that some big thing? I'll admit i don't watch a lot of streamers but the ones i have watched are never in a noisy environment, why the HELL would you want to record/play in such en environment anyway... go somewhere more quiet. How many people were actually hoping for anything like this to come around? No one i know... i can tell you that. Also if a streaming is typing, i don't mind hearing it so i don't have to wonder wtf they're doing. G-Sync: Sorry to destroy ur hopes and dreams but this is going away sooner or later. Certainly now that its also working on freesync monitors. They might stretch this out a while by adding "features" to the G-sync module but its just fighting the inevitable moment where its obsolete and freesync can do it all for much cheaper. So ehm... not much left of ur list there....

Anyway ill now just continue enjoy reading everyone's ridiculous excuse for the Nvidia prices and why AMD won't compete. It's a blast, really. Nice of you to forget they are absolutely destroying Intel right now with a mere FRACTION of the budget. All ur comments were under the ryzen threads as well before the first generation was released... If you factor in the budgets both the companies are working with, it's actually AMD whos amazing and Nvidia who just plain sucks...

Please come at me... I'll have a laugh and not respond just so you know right now.
