  1. The IS should be turned off on a tripod if the lens has no tripod detection. The main Sensor is not used for focusing in non Live View modes. If the lens is set to AF and it still doesn't focus try to press the * button on the back top right side of the camera.

  7. They are using the software to sell their hardware. Potential customers are already familiar with their software... Also the free version is missing features like denoising.

  9. Yes it saves the image as a RAW and jpeg in two files. It is handy if you don't have the resources to generate many jpegs from RAW in a short time.
  10. Yes that's why you usually use RAW but if you need the images quickly or for just preview purposes you can use various raw converter with automatic image adjustments to convert them to jpeg. On the other hand you have still the possibility to archive and process them in the highest quality available. Another option is to save RAW+Jpeg simultaneously.
