Yes that's why you usually use RAW but if you need the images quickly or for just preview purposes you can use various raw converter with automatic image adjustments to convert them to jpeg. On the other hand you have still the possibility to archive and process them in the highest quality available. Another option is to save RAW+Jpeg simultaneously.

Just start with learning by doing. Try the different modes and get familiar with them.
