  1. So I got this tiny and cheapo Lenovo M720q that I use only for media consumption like YouTube videos but I recently put one of my old 1440p 144Hz monitor away and decided to plug it into the Lenovo. When I saw that 144Hz didn't work I tried 120Hz and that worked but I don't really get why it won't let me use 144Hz. It has a DisplayPort 1.2 connection to the monitor and the monitor is an ASUS PG278Q. I googled and DisplayPort 1.2 should be able to support 144Hz. In the Intel Graphics Control Panel, it even lets me select 144Hz but then the screen just stays black and reverts to the previous setting after 30 seconds.
  2. I currently only have the CPU in my loop but will add the GPU soon. The loop is sucking air into the case and it really heats up the graphics card, which is why I will add it. Probably will worsen both components but if it does, I will add a second 240 radiator.
  3. I have the rad mounted in the front and use the fans to suck air in through the radiator. The only reason why I have it like this is because the fans are RGB and it looks really good.
  4. Hmm, I actually never checked that because I'm quite satisfied with the performance of the chip. I will give it a try.
  5. Hi guys, so I recently built a custom watercooling loop with all EK parts and a 360 radiator with 3 120mm EK Vardar RGB fans for my Ryzen 9 3950X. So far so good, everything stays quiet (except from some annoying whine but hey) but I'm wondering about the temps. The CPU is always at 50° C and sometimes spikes up to 60-70 for one second before it then tones itself down to 50 again. When I start Prime 95 or CineBench, the temperature and noise level pretty much stay the same. So 55° when it was at 50° before and 65° when it was at 60° before and then stays there. I tested it for like an hour each time. So far I don't really see the problem but is 50° C on idle normal on a 3950X? The CPU hit 85-90° easily on the old air cooler Noctua NH-D15 so there definitely is improvement but I just thought it would be bigger. Or is that normal?
  6. If someone for some reason comes by this thread, I have found a solution for my initial problem. Thing is, the problem is still present up to this days Windows 10 version. When your desktop icons just fly to a random location, it's because you have multiple icons with the exact same name on your desktop. Just remove or rename the icons with the same name and your problem will be gone.
  7. Sorry but you didn't understand my question. I don't want to play games on it, I just want to know if the graphics card is able to push that many pixels.
  8. Pretty basic question that I couldn't get an answer for anywhere: I currently have three 1440p displays connected to my RTX 2080 TI via DisplayPort. I have on additional HDMI connection left though. Could I connect a 4K-TV to it and also use the 4K resolution at 60 Hz? And if that's possible, can I also enable HDR even though my three 1440p displays don't support it?
  9. I would also upgrade the GPU, the 3GB VRAM is really the main problem here. It just doesn't cut it anymore with the modern games, especially the ones you mentioned.
  10. Let's start with your last question: The SLI bridge doesn't matter with the GTX 980, it started to matter with the GTX 1080 because it used both SLI connectors, so you had to use a special dual bridge. Now to your main question: I would go with the GTX 1660 Ti, or even with a RTX if you can save money for a little longer. SLI may have been nice some time ago but now it no longer is. Most games don't support it and even if they do, it introduces stuttering and other problems while not really delivering massively better performance. I would always go with just one of the best cards you can afford. I used to have two GTX 1080s but changed to a RTX 2080 TI and the difference was huge. Not necessarily to the overall FPS but with the smoothness of the games.
  11. Hi folks, I have a weird bug for ya. So I set up an old machine of mine as a server for this and that. But when I start any task on this machine that requires some or alot of disk usage, my C-drive SSD shoots up to 100% disk usage and write speed slows down to a couple of Kbyte/s. When this happens, I can also no longer RDP in, because the SSD becomes too unresponsive. Now here's the weird part: No matter what kind of SSD I clone my data to and use as C, the problem still persists. I tried a Samsung 840 EVO, a 850 EVO and an old Intel SSD which I forgot the name of. The operating system is Windows Server 2016. It has all the recent updates installed. The problem exists for quite a while now but it's getting worse over time.
  12. That is a detail that I forgot to tell. So I overclocked my GPU to 2070 MHz Boost Clock which is running stable according to an hour of Furmark. It shows this speed at startup of all games but then it immediately slows way down, sometimes even to around 1000 MHz. And it's not a heat or power issue as well as I have set the power limit to 122% and the temp limit to 90° but it never actually goes above 70° C.
  13. So I replaced my two GTX 1080s with a new Gigabyte RTX 2080 TI because I thought SLI was kind of pointless at this time due to low maintenance from Nvidia and supporters. Problem is that now my games have a massive stuttering issue to the point where it hurts my eyes when I move the mouse. Weird thing is that I get quite high FPS, most of the time maxing out my 1440p 144Hz monitor. It's like the framerate is there and it should feel smooth but it's just choppy as heck, a phenomenon that I didn't have with my 1080s, even in games that only utilized a single GPU. I read some forum posts but there, the problem was always a CPU or RAM bottleneck. I have a Core i9 7900X overclocked to 4,5GHz on all cores and 32GB of 3000MHz DDR4 RAM, so that shouldn't really be a problem. Is there anybody out there who has this problem as well? Oh btw I tested it on several games, such as GTA V, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Shadow of War, Metro Last Light, Watch_Dogs 2, The Witcher 3 and DOOM. All had the same stuttering but I thought the more FPS I got the worse the behavior would get.
  14. Nope, KVM is still not picking up audio and audio over my headphones would still not work. I just need something that you can plug into a PC and get a live stream of the console's video in a program window.
