  1. Yeah... that sounds like a dead PSU to me. You can probably return it from the manufacturer to replace it.
  2. Here, this should help, make sure you do it with the clip part facing UP, so you don't short the wrong pins... Also most PSU's have a switch to turn off silent fan mode... what model is it?
  3. Unplug the PSU (dead one) from anything in your PC, plug it into wall power only. Use a paperclip or a small piece of wire to short the green pin on the 24-pin motherboard connector to any one of the black pins. Then see if the PSU fan spins up.
  4. Yeah, the Blackmagic unit is only $137, it's not going to get much cheaper than that. Sorry. EDIT: Just googled your laptop model, what makes you think it has a Thunderbolt port?
  5. Right, but I would be fine with them just uploading their 1080p videos in 4K, as YouTube 1080p has such a low bitrate, and YouTube 4K has a much higher bitrate.
  6. Me too actually, but I enjoy the higher bitrate of Youtube 4K, and can still notice the difference, even on my 1080p monitor.
  7. Anyone notice this? Ever since the LTT themed build log they have only been in 1080p.
  8. SSD is SATA 6Gbps, Laptop is 1.5 I believe. No I have not performed either a firmware update on the SSD nor a BIOS update on the laptop.
  9. Thanks for the comment I guess. Any ideas on how to fix my problem?
  10. So here's my problem: I have a 32GB SanDisk SSD that works fine in my Toshiba laptop as well as in my custom Z170 PC. I have an old (Vista era) sony VAIO laptop that I want to install Linux with this SSD in. The Sony will not detect the Sandisk SSD (doesn't even show up in BIOS}, even though it works fine in multiple other computers. I have tested both a 250GB mechanical drive and a 120GB ADATA SSD and both work fine in the Sony laptop, it's just the combination of the Sony VAIO and my Sandisk 32GB SSD that won't work. EDIT: Forgot to add the weirdest part; I have used this SSD in this same computer before with no problems!
  11. count me in or something idk. EDIT: keyboard is my favorite because of dat clickity clack.
  12. Update: I had given up on this laptop, so I was starting to put it back together, and once everything was assembled, I tried to boot it just for the heck of it, and POST! Hate to be the guy who solved his own post with no explanation, but I legitimately have no explanation.
  13. There are 2 slots, each with a 4Gb stick, for a total of 8gb. I have tried every possible combination of slots and modules, I have pulled memory from a known working laptop, I have put the HP's memory into my known working laptop(and it booted). Any other suggestions?
