Raisin06 reacted to GDRRiley in Heat Sink Fan's Direction
toward the rear exhaust as it will pull cool air over the ram and it shouldn't heat up much from that

Raisin06 reacted to WoodenMarker in Cryorig C7 vs Cryorig H7
The H7 is better. It has a larger heatsink and the fan on the C7 has a fan that runs at a higher rpm to compensate for the smaller design. Both come with decent paste.

H7-
Looks better
Performs better
Better mounting hardware
Higher quality materials/build quality
Quieter

Worth the $9 imo.

I have the Cryorig H7 in 3 machines at the moment and it works great. The Hyper 212 Evo is great as well. It's honestly all what you prefer, if you want to save some money go for the 212!

Raisin06 reacted to EarthboundHero in 2 small SSDs or 1 large SSD
RAID 0 is dangerous. If one dies, you lose all the data on both drives. It also requires more physical space and will limit future upgrades.

I only like to use raid for large HDDs in raid 1! that is the only raid i use
raid 1 mirrors the data on the drives so you have 2 copies

Raisin06 reacted to Mr.Meerkat in AF120 or A140 at the back of the case?.
140mm will be a tad quieter for the same amount of airflow (as it can run at a lower RPM due to the larger surface area of the fan blades on the 140mm compared to the 120mm).

Raisin06 reacted to dalekphalm in NAS - Remote Access
This is a good option, but having it run on the router itself - if suitable - in my opinion is a better option, since the router is always connected, and can update the IP instantly. If your IP changes while your client PC is turned off, but say you're out on vacation and need to access some files, you won't be able to run home and turn the PC on. If you're running it on a PC that is never shut off, for example, a server, then that might work, but I personally tend to favour letting the Router handle it.

Raisin06 reacted to Blade of Grass in NAS - Remote Access
Just a note on PPTP VPNs, they're not really secure. The MS-CHAPv2 protocol that they very frequently use for authentication is no longer secure and even Microsoft themselves recommends the use of a different VPN protocol. While PPTP may be fine for normal, everyday, home use, if you need to access confidential or sensitive data please do not use PPTP. Your best option would be to use OpenVPN or L2TP/IPsec as they are far more secure than PPTP.

Raisin06 reacted to .:MARK:. in NAS - Remote Access
Totally agree, I was saying for those that can't do it on the router or don't want to use stupid services like no-ip. Where no-ip or dyndns is usually the only options.
-
Raisin06 reacted to KuJoe in NAS - Remote Access
One thing to also note, if you use a service like DynDNS or No-IP to setup a DNS address to your home IP you should triple check that your router doesn't allow remote access by default, this can allow some really bad stuff even if you don't use the default login and password.

Raisin06 reacted to GreezyJeezy in Passive cooling with the 212 evo
I know some people who use the evo passively. But not on a overclocked cpu

Raisin06 got a reaction from BiscuitMassacre in Passive cooling with the 212 evo
That makes sense as well, just make sure they're two of the same fans and hook them up to a splitter or make sure they're both set to the same speeds to avoid any weird turbulence.

Raisin06 reacted to Rolling Potatoe in Does my cpu need an upgrade?
Well, for gaming its mostly fine and you should fokus on your gpu.
For some editing its also fine, but if you do alot of it (>1 h/day) an i7 would save you some time.
-
Raisin06 reacted to BiscuitMassacre in Does my cpu need an upgrade?
It would need an upgrade eventually, but it fits in pretty well with your build. If you feel like your CPU is too slow, thats your call, but as far as gaming goes, I think you should upgrade your GPU, That CPU should have no problems with a 950. You might want to upgrade to eliminate bottlenecks with a 960 or higher.
