mikeeginger reacted to Ashley MLP Fangirl in Can This USB Stick Resurrect Your Old PC?
charging money for linux... a lot of money in fact. what an awful product. i can't believe Linus actually thought that price was ok.
look if you don't know how to make a bootable usb or dvd that's fine. just buy a normal install disk and ask someone knowledgable about linux to install it or look up a guide (cough like my guides cough)
like seriously, you can get an install disk for ubuntu for much less than that stupid usb stick.
(the page looks a bit weird because i had dark reader on but you get the point)

So it's just a live Linux USB. Like I used to use on my old schools shitty macbooks. Man. I built mine for like, 10 bucks. Plus it doesn't even do anything to your computer, like deleting bloatware or something. What a sham.
Also those "was" prices are a sham too. It's a marketing ploy to make you think you're getting a deal, when you're really not. It's been a thing since the dawn of the first retail stores.

mikeeginger reacted to SiCkHiTrEg in 900D Build In Progress
Will be getting ready to drill out some holes to place in the reservoir/pump soon. Just a quick pic of where it should be around and look like. Not sure if I am going to drill through the floor into the bottom compartment to run tubing or try and run it down the right side of the case yet.

mikeeginger reacted to AlTech in Signal App to Australia: You tried to ban cryptography? How cute! Good Luck with the ban!
ArsTechnica reports that Signal App, one of the most (if not the most) secure and privacy oriented messaging app out there and 100% Snowden approved, has commented on the situation with Australia's Cryptography ban.
The developers have told Australia that they think this new ban is cute and good luck with enforcing it.
When developers of messaging apps simply don't have means to access the cryptographic keys used to encrypt a chat, there's really nothing the Australian government can do but watch in disbelief that anybody would actually design an app to be private and secure. ?
Good job Signal! Show Australia who's boss! Encryption, that's who .
As someone who has been using Signal app for the better part of 9 months I'm definitely happy Signal is standing their ground and protecting the people from outdated and unpopular government officials who make laws based on bad decisions.

Breaking News:
AT&T AND VERIZON ARE STILL GARBAGE
WHO WOULD'VE EXPECTED THIS AMAZING TWIST
But in all seriousness, why does US telecom suck? I'm a Canadian boy myself, and from what I hear, US providers are constantly trying to f*ck their consumers over.

UPDATE:
So I have NO INTENTION of starting this build because it's done however its now my primary work desktop and I thought I would fill in the people that were interested. I switched out cases for the Corsair 600C, I'm running 4x 120GB Inland Professional ($24ea.) in a RAID 0 with a 1TB WD Se storage drive, I've got a Intel X520 that's connected up to 10Gb fiber all the way back to the ISP, Serial card, Quadro K1200 and swapped out all the fans for Noctua Industrial PPC with Cromax noise dampeners.
I went ahead and took some pictures of my test and demo equipment, I've got some Meraki equipment not all of which is pictured, Mac Pro for troubleshooting all those Apple issues and a whole rack full of Cisco equip and hosts.

mikeeginger reacted to Slottr in Marriott says data on 500m customers at risk in vast breach
I work in the industry- the people behind IT for most of the big hotel brands don't do shit regarding security. I've been pushing for small things like transitioning to a password manager for nearly 5 months now and still nothing.
For a handful of the websites, it's backend is so outdated and weak a 10 year old could get into it. I'm not surprised this is coming to light.

TL;DR:
Amazon instructs management to be strongly be Anti-Union in low-key ways.

My Thoughts:
Based on the terms used by the training video, it doesn't seem like Amazon is fostering a nice workplace in the slightest. With reports of Associates' peeing in jars, and scrambling to meet almost impossible quotas, I'd sounds like it's time for Amazon to have some oversight.
