Yeah, at those settings high performance... and whatever your in game settings are... I would seriously consider getting a good laptop cooling pad.
A cooling pad should help as well as lowering in game settings and resetting power plan to balanced

I play at 1080p. Decided to check for driver updates (should have done that before making this post) updated and used gefoce experience to optimize destiny and now getting around 95-110 with motion blur off and shadow quality set to lowest.

Note to self: allways update drivers.

what laptop? Performance taking a massive dump after a few minutes of play sounds like potential thermal issue.

Yeah i would just do a clean install.... and maybe even create a new windows 10 media to usb... installer could be corrupted.

remember to wipe all partitions.... format all partitions for your boot drive.

Does he want a desktop, or do you just want to get him another laptop?

I'd toss in an after-market air cooler and a 128 or 256 Gb boot SSD. You could probably just go with a 250 Gb SSD and not worry about an extra HDD.

    - Try using the Windows 10 installer / Click Repair your computer
    - I think there's an option to boot to safe mode
    - or just do a clean install of Windows 10.  Be sure to format all partitions...... on your boot drive.  Just to err on the side of caution you can disconnect your HDD.

I think awhile back I had the same problem.. just stuck on repair.  Luckily I didn't have any important files on my boot drive... just did a clean install  good luck

Try removing the HDD, and putting the SSD in that slot.  Install Windows and all that fun stuff.  Then install the HDD into the DVD drive slot.

Let's err on the side of caution and say you should keep the Windows key handy. If you need to find it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10749/windows-10-find-product-key

And if you need help with cleaning the drive further, let us know.

Dryden reacted to Mira Yurizaki in Reinstalling Windows on SSD.
Install Windows with just the SSD installed. Windows shouldn't touch the drive you didn't select, but this is more as a precaution to make sure you cannot select the hard drive by mistake. Once installed, make sure to boot from the SSD, since the computer may still boot from the hard drive. You can either change the boot priority in UEFI/BIOS or use your boot menu to select it.

Once you're done setting up Windows on your SSD, I would recommend copying files from the Users\[username] folder on the hard drive to your SSD's Users\[username] folder. Particularly files from AppData and Documents since that's where most application settings are stored. If you want to remove the hard drive's ability to boot, then you'll have to delete the boot loader partition from it. If you open up Disk Manager and look at the hard drive's partitions, it's the one that's usually a few hundred megabytes. Then from there you can delete everything you don't need from the hard drive. You may run into permissions issues though since Windows may not like you deleting Windows files even if it's on another drive.

The best way I think to go about this though is if the data you have can fit on the SSD, move it all there temporarily, then completely format the hard drive and move the data back.

That ssd cost ~$55 more, of course it has better performance. But the performance difference will be unnoticeable in this usage and the goal is to reduce cost without noticeable performance loss.

    Potentials:

    1) Air moved a component that was already loose
    2) Dust under contacts in such a way that it causes an error
    3) Motherboard short to case

    Suggestion:

Look for the obvious since the cleaning was physical and nothing to do with software.  If nothing, teardown, rebuild.

Powered ejection is mechanically and electrically controlled by the drive hardware itself.  You'll have to remove the power cable to prevent it from opening I'm pretty sure.

    - RAM and SSD.  You probably already know this...  to minimize the chances of an unstable system, try to get RAM sticks similar in timings, voltage, and speed.
    - I like the look of that thermaltake case.  It's a micro case so it should go well with that mobo you have.  However, if you plan to build a new system later and want to reuse the case, then your options are limited somewhat to micro or mini.-
    - Moreover, check the dimensions of that case.  Your cougar psu is standard atx size psu? Will it fit in that case?

Get the SSD this system desperately needs first. A cheap 100 dollar or even 60 dollar SSD can really make a night and day difference on a system.

DDR4 RAM prices are still pricey.  What are used DDR3 RAM prices like? I don't know if it's cost effective to put money on more DDR3 if you plan to upgrade in the near future.  However if you can find really cheap sticks.. whatever you think is cheap, then 16gb at higher mhz and GTX 1070 or higher seems like reasonable upgrades.  good luck

Here's a compare list between the 8600K and 2600x: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X/3941vs3956. If you're going to be gaming and streaming, I would definitely recommend getting Ryzen due to more cores which will help streamline your streaming experience.

You'll want 16GB of RAM minimum for gaming and streaming as well.
Watercooling usually isn't necessary unless you're overclocking. The Wraith Spire cooler(AMD's stock cooler for Ryzen) is a good enough cooler that should be able to handle most of what you throw at it for a while before needing an upgrade.

Dryden reacted to Semper in Cant get into my Bios
Some motherboards have a feature where holding the power button for a certain amount of time will boot you into the bios. I don't have any experience with ASRock, so I can't tell you if it is a feature, or if it needs to be enabled when you do have access to the BIOS.

For my current Z97-G45, it needs to be enabled.
For my previous 990FXA-UD3 it was enabled by default.
I don't recall using the feature much, if ever, previous to these two boards, however.

Give it a shot, though. Press and hold the power button for anywhere from two to 10 seconds i'd say would be a good range. Worst that can come from it is a bit of wasted time, and perhaps a slightly flatter finger for a short while.
