  1. 100% agree on ASUS being crap. Back in 2017, I RMA'd a Rampage VI Extreme as it would freeze in bios before posting. I paid for shipping ect... They claimed they couldn't reproduce the issue and sent me the same dead board back. They claimed it had to be my ram. So I swapped the ram for testing. Then they claimed the PSU. I bought a new PSU. Then they claimed the CPU, I tested another and same issue. Finally, they agreed to do another RMA. Which big shock, they found the board didn't work. Turns out they don't actually test the boards when you RMA them. They just use a few probe points, they don't even bother to boot the board before claiming it works. Oh and the turn around time is 10-15 business days each time.
  2. CPU is fine, PSU is prob also fine, I am betting its the MB.
  3. Also, when you say it is a new mb, did you just rma it or did you confirm it is a new board. I had asus lie to me about testing my R6E when I rma'd it. Ended up being the board after 3 months and a new psu that didnt change anything
  4. Nice build. Can you list the exact steps and parts for the screen mod. I have a very similar build. Love the build so far.
  5. Heat the part that stretches more than the compressing side. You will still tend to get a bit of flat but its not to bad. Also heat up a larger area on the part that stretches.
  6. Tower 900 is bigger. I think it looks better but thats me.
  7. Tower 900 is unique looking. I am a bit bias here as I have one. Also, it is a quarter the price.
  8. I dont have an AIO, air cooler, or extra soft tubing. No way to test
  9. Some ray tracing stuff. I would have a 1080ti but, I got the 1080 before it came out. I also am not a fan of SLI after it not working anything in my last build.
  10. I had to send the motherboard back TWICE. The first time they told me it worked and was fine. Which it was not and after buying another power supply, testing with my friends ram, and RMAing the CPU, they asked for the board again. They then sent me a new one which ended up working. So, after 3 months of work, this is almost my finished build. Specs: CPU: i9-7980xe - 4.2ghz (delidded) RAM: 64gb 3000mhz Gskill trident z MB: Rampage VI extreme GPU: zotac arcticstorm gtx 1080 - 2000mhz SSD: Samsung 960 pro 512gb PSU: AX1600i Case: Tower 900 Watercooling components are the same except for the silver VUE coolant. Still trying to work with aura sync to get a nice color... Also thinking of getting some better fans for the front section as my SSD gets a bit warm at 50C.
  11. Motherboard ended up being dead. But, this is a picture from before I took it out. I couldn't get the caps off the tube res. So, no rgb ring. Coolant is cleaner, will replace when I get replacement board.
  12. Everything is here and ready. I ended up going with 1 512 gb ssd instead of 2. The i9-7980xe is delided. It was kinda a pain to get that monoblock on. You really need a second set of hands. More images to come as more progress gets made.
  13. Which color is the question? Also is it stable?
  14. I have been planning this for about a year now and its almost ready. The start for my new build: Rampage VI Extreme (Have) 64GB Trident Z RGB (Have) 2x560mm Rads (Have) 8xNoctua 140mm (Have) EK monoblock (Have) RGB strips (Have) Cables (Have) AX1200 (In Use) Zotac ArcticStorm 1080 (In Use) Tower 900 (Have) What I still need to get: i9-7980xe Coolent - still working on deciding this one 2xThermaltake pump/res 2xAlphacool 60mm RGB ring 2x512gb SSD Maybes Alphacool 16mm RGB ring Second 1080 Still trying to think of a good loop layout... Also for good coolant
  15. There was this one time, But it was sort of a disaster and more of 2 motherboards being glued together.
  16. What is case? I also am grabbing a 7980xe with my rampage vi extreme, but I have custom loop with 2 560mm rads. I think I have seen 360mm and 420mm aios but make sure you can fit it.
  17. I am a computer engineer. You will be using the school servers a lot as the software for a lot of this stuff is $$$. Also, generating bitstreams for fpgas is cpu bound. But, I only started using my own rig around my 3rd year when they let us each have fpgas. A good laptop that you can ssh with is all you need really
  18. I have the tower 900. I am getting a 7980xe, I want to go nuts with this build, and lots of rgb. I know threadripper exists. I am using x299 because of work reasons. I have a 1080 artic storm. I don't really need gpu horsepower. But, I want to know about fittings, cables, fans, led strips, pump/res. Ect... I currently have a soft tube build that i can use 2 sata 240gb ssds, a 3tb hdd, an ax1200, and some rad. I am going to grab a rampage vi extreme snd tge ek monoblock What i need help with I need fittings Led strips Fans rgb maybe A 540mm rad Coolant Pcie m.2 ssd, not sure on size. Need to have vms Cables that are long enough Rgb res/pump(I have 2 ddc pumps curently but the res wont work with what i want. I want a tube res) Second gpu maybe Rgb ram 64gb I live in us, my budget for the above excluding cpu, mb, ek block, case is $3800usd. It is not fixed. Oh I also will probably delid. I do very cpu bound things and I do not need ecc.
  19. I actually am upgrading from x79 to x299 as well. I currently have my rampage iv extreme and am waiting for the 6 to come out. I run a 3930k and I feel you. I want m.2, type c, tbt3, ddr4, ect... Also my current board is starting to fail, some sata and usb ports are not working.
  20. I have been reading and am wanting to say petg. But the low melting point scares me. Any advice.
