  1. Hey Gang. Just watched NCIX.com's latest on the MSI Gaming boards. I went to compare specs at NewEgg but they were fairly incomplete in the "Compare Products" page for the GD65 Gaming. Anyone more "in the know" about these boards? In that vein, what about the Z77-MPower? Thanks!
  2. I unfortunately do not have the time to go and wrap my own cables. I defy another father of 2 year old twins to come out and say he has PLENTY of spare time to custom wrap cables. That being said, I am looking at the OCZ Fatal1ty 1000w that comes with black individually sleeved cables. An easy cop out for sure. I know other companies make custom color sleeved cable packages (Corsair, SeaSonic, Silverstone), my question is are all the modular plugs for PSUs compatible with one another? For example if I wanted mix the Corsair (or any other brand) Blue wrapped cables with the black one on the OCZ, can I do it? Thanks!
  3. This was posted by MaximumPC. Why go with the 3820?
  4. I just got an Antec P280 and decided to go with the best of both worlds. I am putting the Noctua's on top with my H220 (because Linus said in the updated review of the H220 - "...they're frickin' AWESOME!") and sticking 2 SP120's in the front behind the door. I don't have a side panel so need for the bling.
  5. Same for me. Everything looks good, just was thrown off by the "retail" package.I was hoping someone else got one while they had them in stock albeit briefly the other day.
  6. Everything inside looks good. I just have never seen one of these "ion the wild" so i was not sure if I should have been expecting an over-packaged/shrink wrapped/taped sealed item or not.
  7. I was able to grab a H220 from NewEgg a couple of days ago and it arrived today. Question: What should my retail packaging have looked like? The box came without any cellophane/shrink wrap and it did not have any tape on the box edge prior to opening it. I have called NewEgg and they are willing to let me return it, the thing is it is out of stock again. They told me I have 30 days to return it but since I am waiting on some other items for my build, should I just send it back now and wait? If anyone knows what the package should have looked like when it arrived your input will help. Thanks.
  8. Arnold Palmer. Best of both summer worlds (lemonade and iced tea).
  9. Thanks. I always thought that Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit can go all the way to 192Gb of RAM. Interesting about the DDR3-1866. Truth be told I have never tweaked around with my memory, CPU - yup, GPU - yup, RAM just scares me. It seems like they are too many varibles (timing, voltage, etc) which I think I can screw up and have an unstable system. Honestly I will not be doing much gaming. I run large Excel sheets with hundreds of formulas, data pulls and calculations that have maxed out my CPU just as much as Premier Pro when I am working on a video and I just want to make sure I am covered. I have never maxed out my current 12GB on my older Gigabyte ex58-ud3r so 16 should be plenty.
  10. I have seen what Gigabyte has on the website, but let's face it these Forums are from "real" users and I am putting way more stock in what is said here than there. I am looking for the fastest, most reliable, stable, and potentially oc'able RAM for around $300. Spreader height will not be an issue as I am looking at the H100 or swiftech coolers. Also is it worth it to go the full 32GB that board can handle or should I just stick to 16GB in my price range? Thanks.
  11. A quickie on positive vs negative airflow. Why one and not the other?
  12. Got my CPU (i-5 3570K), GPU (HD 7850), Motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH), and Cooler (H220) now what do I put it all in? I am not looking for flash (LEDs and the Vegas Strip are not my thing) and after spending hours pouring over youtube videos, newegg, and amazon reviews the last 5 standing are: Antec P280, BitFenix Ghost, Fractal Design R4, Corsair 550D, and Fractal Desgin XL R2. They all seem really good. P280 - By all accounts, it's bigger than you think. The whole "Super" mid-tower thing, but I have read about some issues that fan cables could be too short. In Tom's Hardware Slient Gaming Case review they said that it was not as silent as it could/should be. Ghost - Truthfully I really like the hot swap on the top, I feel that I would get a bunch of use out of it. R4 - won Tom's Hardware Silent gaming case review, but it just looks too cramped inside. 550D - it's Corsair what else can I say, but I am a little worried that aside from the new 900D and C70 Corsair has not refreshed the case line much. XL R2 - maybe the big brother to the R4? All it's great features with some room to grow. I would really like the most "future-proof" case I can get. Nothing worse than buying something now and then finding out you are limited later (like I am now with my Antec 900 v2). Thanks in advance....
  13. I am getting ready to start a new build and I am just trying to narrow down my case choices. I will be installing extra fans to help increase air flow when under load and while some of the cases I am looking at already have some basic fan control options, do I need to invest the $$ and space for an auxiliary controller? I am not completely sold on it since I saw Linus's video unboxing of the Phantom 630 at about 4:45 he does this little postulating about do you really sit there and say "Hmm, I want my CPU fan on High, my GPU on Low and my case fans on Medium." In typical Linus fashion it is pretty funny. If I plan to use software like SpeedFan, Corsair Link, and whatever comes with my GPU, aren't the generic controls on my case enough? Thanks!
  14. Unless I am mistaken, ALL ripjaw ( even the blue 2400mhz ) series of g skill ram is precisley 40 mm high. . Noctua nd d14 and the phanteks ph tc14pe will allow you to use ALL three 140m sized fans on both of those coolers and just comfortably touch/sit ontop of THAT ram's heatsinks..and this will not cause any problems. My friend uses his 3770k with the phtc14pe cooler on that exact same ram maxed out all day every day for the past 19 months straight as he is using 2 instances at the same time of Handbrake to rip and shrink his blu ray and dvd movie collection that he has built for the past 5 years. the email I just received from PHanteks a week ago included a diagram showing precise measurements of their recommendations of ram height..but not necessary what WOULD physical fit. The diagram shows less than 40 mm then right next to that labeling it shows 32.92 mm. I physically measured the g k skill 2400mhz 8 gig stick out of my friend's build ( he has 4 total sticks that he uses) and it is precisely 40 mm in height. yet ..on his gigabyte ga-z77-up5 th motherboard with this exact air cooler...he did not have to adjust/move the first " push" fan of the cooler ( out of the 3 on there) up any to accomodate for room between the bottom of the fan and the top of the ram's heatsink. It comfortably was touching and not snugg against it at all. Plastic on the bottom of today's fans included with high performance air coolers won't be melted or really scared at the very pathetic heat output of any decent ram like g skill ripjaws..unless you overclocked the crap out of that ram raised the voltage ( which unless you're running ONLy an APU with a dedicated video card, that would be pretty much pointless) Thus in reality it's ok of the ram touches the bottom of your big fans on that type of air cooler. If it hasn't caused any problems after over a year of use...chances are it will never cause a problem. Cheers. " Mankind will always vote in majority for free gifts..until only after they realize..it's time to pay for them. democracy has a HUGE flaw" I just joined today and saw your post. I am considering the very CPU and motherboard your friend is using. I have been bouncing back and forth on my cpu cooler (due to RAM height worries) and what you wrote has peaked my curiosity. Do you think you can get pics of your friend's CPU/Cooler/Ram setup?
