  1. I'd love a PC like this as I am a game/network developer. Having a powerful pc this portable would aid my work in a massive way. It would enable me to bring my own, reference PC to work sites to test functionality. Also, such a small yet powerful machine would be an amazing business travel companion.
  2. So I am building myself a PC for the reasons mentioned in the title. I thought I should ask the communities opinion on the parts that I am looking to use. 1. Budget & Location I currently live in Johannesburg South Africa, thus all PC parts are WAY more expensive than in Canada or the US. My Budget is R30 000 or approximately USD$ 2600 or CAD$ 3100. 2. Aim This PC should be the solution to all my power hungry tasks. I will be doing 3D modeling, 3D and 2D animation, video/image/audio editing and creation, coding in C++/Java/HTML5 as well as gaming. This PC must be very upgradable or "future-proof". I will also be taking this rig to LAN parties thus it does need to look good and be as quiet as possible, but silence is not the most important thing in this build. 3. Monitors I currently own two LG Flatron W2453V's running a 1920x1080 resolution each in extended display mode. I might add in a 4k display in a few years. 4. Peripherals I wont be buying any peripherals, as I already own pretty decent ones, listed below. 5. Why are you upgrading? My current PC is great. But it simply does not have the power to keep up with the tasks I will be demanding of it. 6. Specs of the build PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hLgZHx Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hLgZHx/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-5960X 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor (8 cores running at 3.0 GHz is probably not the best for gaming; however, it is great for 3D modeling.) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (Liquid cooling needed as South Africa is a hot place and I am planning on overclocking the CPU.) Motherboard: MSI X99S Gaming 7 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard Memory: A-Data XPG Z1 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (Large amounts of fast RAM is needed for content creation. Getting 2 sticks of 8GB also then gives me the option of upgrading to a rediculous amount of RAM in the future, if need be..) Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (A solid state drive; a must have for any performance build.) Storage: Seagate SV35 Series 2TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive (I am a little worried about the speed of this drive. However, I will primarily be using this drive for archiving.) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card (Planning to add another in SLI as we all know that two 970 outpace a single 980 and are only marginally more expensive.) Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper ATX Full Tower Case (If you haven't noticed by now, I am going for a Black and Red build theme. This rig needs to look good for the LAN parties.) Power Supply: Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (Too much overkill? Keep in mind that I will probably be adding another 970 in SLI in future years and I am planning on overclocking the CPU. Additionally, it gives me a bit of breathing room for upgrading in the future.) Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard (Brown switches) (Yolo am I right?) Mouse: Corsair M65 RGB Wired Laser Mouse (See previous comment) Headphones: Sennheiser HD 449 Headphones (Possibly the best headphones I have ever bought. I use them for audio editing, gaming and DJ'ing and they have proven themselves again and again.) 7. Final comments Feedback in any shape or form will help me make an informed decision. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.
  3. Thanks guys! You've both helped a lot @itsmyjobtoknow and @lee32uk.
  4. I find that the MSI solution is a slightly better option as it has 2 more SATA 6GB/s ports and I have no need for a SATA Express. The GPU I think is a matter of taste and I prefer the MSI version as I am going with a Red.Black build. The case, again, a very personal choice, plus I would prefer a full tower. As for the PSU, why the EVGA one? Storage wise, a single hybrid drive is as much as I need storage wise as I have a large NAS and they're pretty fast anyway. The RAM however is a very interesting option. Thank you.
  5. Hi all. I have been working on selecting parts for my new PC rig. Below is a link to the current pc parts picker i have created. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MNfZGX If anyone has suggestions for better parts for about the same price, I would be very grateful to read your feedback. My budget should be around $2000, but I do live in South Africa, so paying for shipping will be quite the issue, thus I hope to keep it under $2000. I will be using the rig for intensive gaming, 3D modelling, image editing and creation as well as video editing. I do plan to overclock the CPU to 4.6GHz or there about. Any feedback is welcome and will be put to use!
  6. Definitely the Kuhler 1250. Although the PSU is quite the beast when it comes to power supplies. I have to pick the Kuhler 1250 though, because I have heard great things about it's performance and reliability in overclocked systems.
