Profquast got a reaction from da na in Experiences with non-techies
Wasn't really Dell's fault, some cap maker spied on some other one which gave them the wrong formula which caused them to produce faulty caps for years. It was somewhere between 2001 and 2005 I believe, many electronics from that period of time suffer from blown caps.

Why a 8350
Why a crosshair V formula
Why a GTX 660

Profquast got a reaction from wrath in How bad was your first PC?
I used a AMD Duron 1300MHz with 1GB ram and a NVidia Geforce4 440MX until around 2011. This was budget hardware in 2001 (apart from the ram).

And 167MB/s is 1.336Gbit/s, so not a large difference.

You won't notice the difference between a realtek codec or a top-of-the-line DAC with a HyperX cloud. If it doesn't get loud enough get an amp, but it probably will so you're good.

Profquast got a reaction from david cassar in Unlocking 700 series to 780 Ti's -- Is it possible?
The GTX 750 is a GM107 chip with one SMX unit disabled, so it is maxwell.

Just buy the cheapest one, they're all good really.

Profquast got a reaction from ThomasD in Computer runs hot, suggestions?
You have a lot of power hungry components in a relatively closed case, the air in the case will warm up. The warm motherboard is a good indicator of this. The only way to keep your components cooler is by installing more fans to improve airflow. If possible you could change your 970's for reference models, they are generally better for SLI configurations because they exhaust the heat out of the back of the case instead of in the case itself like an open air design does.

Profquast got a reaction from Suffice in AMD Club3D R9 280 DVI-I?
You need a DVI-I to VGA adapter, DVI-D is only digital so it is an active adapter and the ports on the R9 280 should also have the analog pins (use this to check). Club3D for some reason doesn't include DVI to VGA adapters, but you should be able to find them for about €5 (or $, but AFAIK Club3D is mostly a thing here in the EU.)

Profquast got a reaction from ThyFeared in Evga Gtx 960 4gb or Msi R9 380 4gb
The R9 380 performs a little bit better pretty much all across the board. Only get the 960 if power is really expensive where your friend lives.

You shouldn't run into issues except maybe multiplayer battlefield.

Profquast got a reaction from VortexS in 2 monitors 1 fullscreen game
If you connect one monitor to you IGP your CPU will get a little bit hotter and your drivers might hate you. Other than that, no difference. Unless you're using the monitors in surround, in that case definatly hook them up to your GPU.

Profquast got a reaction from TheSLSAMG in A PC Build under $350!
The 650 is worse than the consoles though, might as well buy one of those then unless you can upgrade fast. In which case it is a better idea to hold out for a few months and do it right.
-
Profquast got a reaction from Mightyinvader in What do you guys think of my $700 Build?
I'd get an H81 board and an i5 4460 unless you plan on upgrading your CPU within a few months, because that G3258 WILL bottleneck in almost every game.

Profquast got a reaction from Edgar R. Zakarian in Cooling AMD FX-8350 @ Stock
Looked it up and it might not be that great, I was confused with another cooler. You could try using the stock cooler, maybe it'll give you better temps but I doubt it. Is your CPU overclocked? Because if your stock cooler still gives temps over 70 degrees at stock that's really weird.
